thanks for taking the time to reply in such detail, but I actually fixed it last night! absolutely delighted.

used winpe on usb , and updated bios using the exe program found on the other thread. seems simple just writing it like that but Ive genuinely been working on this for weeks. I definitely couldnt have done it without this forum.

Just to reiterate the problem I had and how I fixed it, for other people reading:

restart loop, F buttons not working.

    - removed hard drive

-power on, into bios settings and disabled fast and secure boot. also changed the uefi setting to uefi and c mos (from memory i think that's how it spelled/called)

    -created bootable usb stick

-downloaded winpe as found on here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...top-after-win-8-1-upgrade.762238/#post9785966

    -downloaded Biosupdate.exe as found here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/samsung-bios-update-problems.698094/

    - Used rufus to put winpe onto bootable usb

    -copied biosupdate file onto usb

-booted laptop(without hard drive) , winpe program runs, connect to internet and run the biosupdate file from usb, and update the bios version it tells you to

-reboot without hd again and change uefi and cmos setting back to uefi

    -hard drive back in

It updated my bios and then to my surprise I didnt have to do a reinstall of windows when i reconnected the hard drive and turned on it automatically started windows updates, and now I have a fully functioning laptop again.

The advice I received from you @Dannemand was absolutely sound, and the various threads on here too. So thanks very much. And good luck to anyone else googling this problem, it frustrated me for ages but in the end was fairly simple I suppose once youve got what you need.

@dmftm: That's great news. Very well done!

Like you said, the steps sound simple enough, but as you discovered, they can indeed be quite involved: You managed to create a WinPE USB stick that you were able to boot. And the BIOS Update utility was able to find a newer BIOS, which is always the most straightforward way to clear NVRAM when it works.

Thank you for writing it up and posting it here. It would be great if you can find time to also post a brief mention of your victory in Fitztorious' thread with a link the discussion here. That way others who come to that thread will see it as well.

    Once again, good job!
