I thought it worth putting this in its own thread so it doesn't get lost. The problem when installing either W7 or W8 from USB is that the installation halts complaining it can't find a suitable partition, even though you've got a well thought out and prepared plan.
It's because when installing from USB Windows looks to the iSSD first to place the boot manager, and its formatted in way that Windows doesn't recognise, hence it stops with that message. Its easy to fix by formatting or deleting the iSSD before you choose the installation partition, then Windows will install and put the boot manager on the iSSD.
It's no problem having the boot manager on the iSSD, but if you want more control over where it goes, you may already have a boot manager on another 100MB partition that you just want this new installation to modify, then a better solution is to run diskpart before the installation gets that far and hide the iSSD.
Either way the iSSD is why the installation complains. Why it behaves differently when installing from the DVD I don't know, maybe a Windows bug or done that way for a reason.
