I would only made a high risky BIOS update if it was absolutely necessary, e.g. something doesn't work or something like that. In my opinion, otherwise it's really too risky. And: Guarantee excludes BIOS flashes - if the notebook has a problem causing of flashing, you have to pay the Samsung support!

1. I don't know what was changed. Possibly Merom support, or maybe something like the rules for fan operation (which is what I noticed when I updated my X60 BIOS a few months ago). It is unfortunate that Samsung don't publish the revision history for the BIOS.
2. I don't think flashing BIOSes is very risky these days and I would personally update my BIOS if a revision is published on the assumption that some problem has been fixed.

But there is still a risk. I know you have a GUI and that kind of stuff these days, but you can't put down the risk to zero. For instance: I tried to flash my ASUS mainboard with the ASUS utility which told me that everything is going to be as easy as it could be. Yeah, unfortunately it loaded the wrong BIOS for my board - full crash. Of course, ASUS support said no. To sum up: The tech firms know exactly, why they exclude BIOS problem from warranty ...
I have a question about this bios change.
