    Hello,

I live in China. I just bought a Q35. I love it so far.
My only problem is no sound. I downloaded the supported audio driver from samsung. When I try to install it, I get a message saying cannot find sound card.
The Chinese IT guy at my company says it has a sound card but the card needs chinese winXP to work. Is that possible? I have a hard time believing that.
I'm thinking that I may not have a sound card. How do I check?
    Any help would be great.

    thanks,
    Gary

I have the exact same problem with my M50 I have tried re-installing Magic Keyboard but still no joy....

I don't like AVStation and would prefer the buttons to point to PowerDVD and itunes, I did try placing another program in the AVStation folder and naming it AVStation premium.exe (I used calc.exe to test this) which works except that all three buttons call the same program so there must be command line switches and I've no idea what they would be.

It is a shame that a feature that looks like it was designed in (and would be very useful) has been disabled. Sadly my experiance is that Samsung are not good at bringing out updated drivers so not much hope of a fix either.

It would seem like the only solution would be for someone to write an .exe that uses the same command line switches to open 3 external programs which can be edited (assuming you could find what the switches are) and then place it in the AVStation folder and naming it AVStation premium.exe - I really wouldn't know where to start with that!

From the advertising I had understood that AVStation could be used to quickly open a DVD without the need to boot up windows but as windows boots up first I'm not really sure of the point of the program - especially when PowerDVD comes bundled with the system.

While digging around on google I found this thread on the Origami Project which deals whith a similar problem on the Samsung Q1 but that has AVSNow and a different (editable version of) Magic keyboard - I can't find the registery entries they mention in the thread on my system.

Another niggle with the hotkeys is that I would like to be able to optionally switch off the feature that boots up the computer when they're pressed as I've have had problems with my screen protector/mouse mat getting squished between the buttons and the edge of the screen causing it to boot up in my bag - this results in a very hot notebook with a very flat battery!

Unfortunately there seems to be no way to turn off the feature, I did try un-installing Magic Keyboard (no change) and there are no settings in the BIOS that I can find....

All that said I am still very happy with my M50, I also had an X10 before and was very happy with that.

Samsung do make great hardware but they let themselves down a bit with the software and support which is a shame.

Brigand..I have just returned from Korea with a new Samsung R60plus notebook that my sister in law bought for my wife. Unfortunately everthing was in Korean. I had the Korean " Vista" replaced with a new English version
of Vista ok, but now would like to get the Owners manual for the R60plus in
ENGLISH. My wife cannot read the Korean Manual that came with the Laptop.
    Any suggestions ? Thanks...Phillip

Hi, I posted another thread about the R20 and reports of the 14.1 inch screen being grainy. Can you tell me whether there has been a change in screen used in the R20 (from the early models to the more recent T5300 based) and whether it is the same SEC manufactured screen as in the Dell Vostro 1400 ?

    Thanks

    Deag

Hi Brigand21, wonder if you could give me some advise,
my wife has an X20 laptop, which we think may have overheated as it got covered over while it was running (long story involving our 8 month old son). Since then it will boot up and gives us the boot options (safe mode, last good configuration etc), it'll run any option for a few seconds and then goes back to the Samsung start screen and starts all over again.

All this makes me think it's either damaged a small section on the hard drive due to heat, or got a bug. Either way I want to try booting it with the proper Samsung System restore discs but can't seem to find an option to boot from CD. Any ideas where it's hidden?

    Cheers

Try pressing the Esc key a few times during the initial book. On recent Samsung notebooks this brings up a list of boot devices.

Otherwise press F2 during the initial boot to get into the BIOS set up and put the optical drive as the first boot device.

Thanks for that, I've tried the bios screen but can't find it. I'll try the esc key trick today.

    Cheers
