Yep, and the same price too $1199... no tax and free shipping makes it a better deal than the best buy model, by about $98 for me. It also means that the 8870m model will likely be more expensive, but how much more is the question.
I wonder if you can pull an ssd out of one of these and put it in another and it work fine, or if the serial number being in bias would make you reinstall from scratch again.
-
Good find. I would expect that Amazon listing will be available at the end of the month (April the beginning of quarter 2). Then, Best Buy exclusivity will be at an end and we can all rejoice and buy our Series 7's with the beefier Hd 8870m. I very much doubt that Best Buy will ever get that version of the laptop. But...You never know.

Just to be clear:
Amazon.com: Samsung ATIV Book 6 15.6-Inch Full HD Touchscreen Laptop (Mineral Ash Black): Computers & Accessories
This is a black version of Series 5 -
Series 7 15.6
Finally on US site. Just posted. -
Been there for about a week now, dozens of pages back it was posted
Here's some gameplay on an 8870m
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=ZpGjU9yv4bE&desktop_uri=/watch?v=ZpGjU9yv4bE -
Its also the 8770 version like best buy not the 8870.
-
Ummm no? It's clear this is the exact same model as the Chronos, just black and named differently. Same exact specs of the Chronos too.
It's actually the exact version I want, black. That black looks downright sexy. But we need the 8870m version there, surprised it isn't the first one on there. -
Look at the link I posted Kmann
It's similar, but not the same. It's clearly The Ativ book 6 -
Black also solves a problem with the keyboard backlight... the light color backlight on the light keys make the lettering hard to see in certain lighting cituations.
-
Umm no they don't. I have owned many ISP monitors and they do not have this. They are super sharp including my current Apple Cinema 27".

I already noted the name difference. I'm saying that it is the same case, same components, just black and with a different name.
-
Okay. So a new week has come. I'm hoping for some good news by the 27th (when I get back to New York City about the 8870m version being available.
-
One difference that I can see - 8hr battery life estimated opposed to 11
-
It's the same battery life claimed for the Series 5,because it's just a black Series 5
There's something wrong here... Gpu always at 350MHz? Did you play with hd4000? Or did you monitor it for mistake? On a side note, 11 minutes are not enough for a gaming test, it takes at least 20-30 minutes
Can you try to do the test with CPU set at max 99% in windows' power settings? In this way you don't use turbo boost (which is not needed anyway in gpu demanding games), and you leave more margins for gpu usage
C'mon Samsung! Thursday it will be my birthday, give me a sexy, black and powerful present!

Are you out of your mind? How can you say it's a black series 5? Are you blind?
This is what the series 5 looks like....
Samsung Series 5 Notebook (NP550P5C) | Samsung Laptops
That looks NOTHING like the Ativ Book 6. Anyone can tell that that Ativ Book 6 is the exact same thing as the Series 7 Chronos...
How can you even say it's "just a black series 5"??? -
Kmann there's a new series 5 for 2013
http://pci34.fishingtree.com/nike2/strategy/570Z5E
However the Ativ book 6 does look more like the ativ book 8/ series 7 chronos
Samsung's product line is very confusing this year. I'm thinking tht series 7 chronos, ativ book 8 and ativ book 6 are all the same chassis, but with different configs?
We have the 780z5e, 880z5e, 770z5e,870z5e,670z5e and 570z5e
Now, it is possible that samsung put up the wrong pictures for thea 670z5e(ativ book 6) as the 770z5e is silver while the 870z5e is black, so it would make sense for the 670z5e to be the black version of the 570z5e
Hmm, I'm feeling that we'll learn a lot tomorrow. Fingers crossed! -
Well, for one thing both the series 5 and Ativ Book 6 don't say anything about their screens so they're probably using the lower quality 1366x768 non touch screens. The speakers are 2W compared to 4W on the the Series 7 and Ativ 8. The series 5 and Ativ 6 have slightly lighter and battery life isn't as good... and the design of the bottom of the laptop is slightly different.

1.There no benefit in doing a clean install. There's a chance stuff wont work and many times manufacturers put optimization.
2. DONT use the software that came with the 840 pro. It will clone...but the laptop wont see the recovery partition and F4 wont work..
3.I got an eSata to USB. And used samsung recovery to "copy to disk"
That worked perfectly. Pop the ssd in and you have a system restored to factory defaults with working recovery.
4.When done use the 840 pro software to optimize the ssds performance.
5.When opening the back the ram door has TWO screws. Otherwise the entire back wont come of.

Does anyone know what type of harddisk they use in the 770z5e?
I would like to change the hd to a ssd for performance reasons ... -
Noob noob general question (sorry for OT): is it legal to download a Windows 8 ISO (a standard license-free ISO, to be activated with a legit serial) from a MSDN account and to upload it on the Internet for all the folks who have a legit key and want to do a clean install, but can't find the installation media?
Sent from HTC HD2 with Tapatalk -
There are two GPU entries
I try a longer run, maybe an hour with those 99% and see if it changes anything.
Could be cpu boost confuses Samsungs detection. -
Thanks for all your tests. Trying to add rep but I need to give some other people too. Can't wait for your other tests. Do you happen to have far cry 3? I love that game.
So what do you think? Are the performance numbers on notebookcheck representative for the 7x0Z5E too? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I think Microsoft (for reasons best known to themselves) have been leaning on ISPs to remove Windows 8 ISOs - that is why they are hard to find. So Microsoft must consider that posting of their ISOs to not be legal.
John -
finally it's arrived mine 770z5e, I have @home right now.
Tonight I'll swap the HDD with a Samsung 256GB 840 pro, and I will test how goes this little beast with my actual toys... (Lightroom with raw processing, Photoshop and some games like Farcry 3 that I love!!)
Construction quality it's really high, awesome feeling the keyboard.
Backlit it's enought for me (someone it's saying that it's dark !!
)
The back isn't aluminium brushed like the top, but it seem the same material... I will check better later... (now I have to work for 4 hour...
it's killing me)

Has anyone already seen the 770z5e on sale already somewhere in the Netherlands or Belgium? The 770z7e is already available (but expensive), but I want the 15inch one.
Tried to see if I can order it from amazon.de but they don't want to ship to the Netherlands
Thanx -
Thank you, I needed to be sure.
If only MS made an OS in which uninstalling stuff doesn't leave any crapfile nobody would need a clean install....
Sent from HTC HD2 with Tapatalk -
You can order from france, but it'll have an AZERTY-keyboard. There are other german stores that do ship to the netherlands but they'll come with a QWERTZ keyboard. Do you mind a non-QWERTY layout?
I ordered this to my home in Belgium:
Samsung NP770Z5E-S01FR - Fnac.com - Ordinateur portable
They should ship to the netherlands too.
Could anyone of the owners tell me what connection the psu has?
I might pick up something like this, regardless of its help against throttling:
http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6739 -
Dude read better what I wrote.
It's clear it's possible to do a clean install but in order to do that you have to disable UEFI bios.
Possible yes but no uefi. -
Ok, Metro 2033 Test again. Tuned Energy profiles, everything set to max.
CPU limited to 99% to prevent boost and give GPU more room - costs 1-2 FPS as it seems.
Test lasted ~1.5 hours, 99 Loops. Max PSU usage: 93W
Same results. CPU throttling management is good, GPU throttling management is bad.
As soon both get active, Samsungs decisions throttle GPU down, even if there is only medium CPU usage and heat. This prevents the GPU from it's full potentional. GPU rendering (videos/3D tools) turns into nonsense on this machine.
Seeing 82°C as max temp. PSU should be ok - more wattage usage would be dangerous.
All they need to do is check CPU status BEFORE they throttle GPU.Attached Files:

Thank you for the info!
I am originally from Belgium, so I used to use Azerty but would prefer to have to have a QWERTY now. Too bad they don't have the option for it. -
Excuse me, 99 loops of what? Don't you test playing the game?
Sent from HTC HD2 with Tapatalk -
Built in Metro2033 benchmark ! Test playing won't give you comparable results.
As I said, this device perfoms same as GT670m in other notebooks.
I wiped Windows8, reinstalled a fresh MSDNAA image, updated BIOS and drivers through SW update and replaced HDD with Samsung 840 pro SSD. Of course did the windows updates too, which messed up the sleep state by installing wrong HD4000 drivers. Had to remove and reinstall over SW update again.
It's as fast as it can get. Improvement only possible through drivers and/or improved Samsung GPU throttle management. Adding more PSU power makes no sense, since you will hit a thermal limit even with 93W. -
How much is the throttling and what kind of fps are you getting?
It's also released in the UK, but I haven't found a site yet that ships to the Netherlands. In Italy it has been released too.
Alfling you're Italian right? What keyboard layout do you use?
Same as a 670m?? That's awesome man
. Since you have the game, could you perhaps do a game playing test and see if it then still performs like the gtx 670m in terms of fps? Thank you so much for your tests!
P.S. my NP770Z5E will be arriving in the next two days. God I have been waiting so long for this. -
I'm also italian, here we use QWERTY, but on the right we have some accented letters: òàùèé...
-
@Black, an advice: when you write a comment about a game that you test, write also the fps that you obtain in-game, it's more useful
PS: Why you don't try the new Catalyst Beta 13.3 driver? They are compatible with the 8870m! -
I think we're all forgetting this one, awesome link:
Amazon.com: Samsung ATIV Book 6 15.6-Inch Full HD Touchscreen Laptop (Mineral Ash Black): Computers & Accessories
Correct me if I'm wrong, but those specs (and price) seem to be the EXACT same as the Best Buy version of the Chronos 7. -
As said Rammin772, we use a QUERTY with accented vocals instead of some symbols near the Enter key
Sent from HTC HD2 with Tapatalk -
It's a new week, and most of the information about the chronos has come out on Mondays
-
Looking at his logs, it seems the average FPS is around 42.
-
Our keyboard layout is QWERTY, not qUerty (=
-
Nope 13.3 is not compatible or not supportet by AMD, it's all due to Samsung !
http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=448&threadid=164683&enterthread=y
And there is a detailed .htm with bench results in my zip file I attached. Settings and results for every loop.
You can compare it to other benchmarks like this one: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/origin-pc-eon11-s-review,3319-6.html
It moves somewhere on GT670m performance level, in Metro at least.
But again, throttle and "Samsung support" is a problem. If you game a lot, better buy different brands. -
As I said before, someone is already using Catalyst 13.3 beta on his 770Z5E with 8870m with no problem.
Link to AMD forum does not prove anything because it's a simple discussion between simple users.
I want remember to everyone that Black83's Notebook is a 17" model so the results of his tests are not directly comparable with 15" model, because cooling system is fairly different.
Italian keyboard layout:
-
Did you run it in 1080p DX11, Very High, 4x AA, 16x AF, No PhysX, DoF On? I think that's everything maxed out.
A gtx 675m gets only 14,7 fps with those settings, so something definitely is not the same as in the link you posted, bottom graph, if you are getting 42 fps according to the log. -
has anyone played the new simcity on ths 8770 chronos yet? wondering how it performs on the machine
-
Oh wow I totally forgot that
. I hope the 15,6" inch doesn't throttle more than black83's 17".
-
No, but I have played it a sh*t load on my MBPr, which has the 650m and is basically the same thing as the 8770m. I made a post about it earlier, but it definitely struggles. I have to run in 1280x720 with multiple settings turned down from max to get the FPS between 20 and 40 with my biggest cities.
I'm really excited to move up to the 8870m in the Chronos (or Ativ Book?), because it'll allow me to play at 1080p max settings
The game is truly beautiful with amazingly detailed graphics and deserves to be played at the best settings possible. -
Been stalking this thread wanting to see how it measures up against my razer blade as the specs looked impressive, especially battery life. however, throttling looks to be the dealbreaker. stick with my 660m powered blade for now. maybe the throttling issue will be remedied at some point. good luck to you guys.
