Where is the microphone location on this laptop?

One more question: since the fan is right below the screen blowing up, would this be bad for the screen, since the screen would get extremely hot?
-
However to be assured in my own mind, I wouldn't keep the laptop running at full pelt for days on end, even though it might be fine with this, since I don't know for sure, I would at least give it a short break every few hours after heavy gaming / intensive, heat generating tasks.
When I run GTA IV on the machine, it does get very hot above and slightly to the right of the keyboard (So glad this isn't on the WASD section of the keyboard!). It doesn't seem to make any difference to the gaming or the machine itself as of yet (Framerates still consistant after a few hours) and I have had the thing running for a few hours at a time a couple of times now. -
I Played BF3 yesterday and at first I was like "lets see what this beast can handle", only to get dissapointed because I had to run it with settings turned on low to handle it without lag.
I was an idiot as it turned out. I was playing on the HD 4000, and after plugging in the AC Adapter, changing windows power settings to "high peformance" and catalyst control center to maxumum performance this thing maxed out everything on ultra with no lag at all @ 720p. Haven't tried 1080 yet, but im not gonna play in that anyway.. -

All I'm saying is that they're trying to get that page fixed
And the majority of the specs make sense. -
Has anyone tested Borderlands 2? I'm interested in the performance with both the 8870 and 8770 versions, though I know not many people have the 8870 as of yet.
-
My fool opinion is this: At least with Lenovo, you are being given the option of the upcoming Nvidia 750m directly from the vendor. The 8870 version sighting in US remains to be a mystery to this day. Why would Lenovo put the 750M as an option if they didn't have the hardware so it either means they've made a contract already with NVidia to supply it end of this month OR Lenovo somehow already got hold of the 750m chips and have started to put it in their gaming laptops. Again, Lenovo has been in this business FAR more so than Samsung. Not dishing out Samsung as I think they've really started to come out with excellent hardware for a very affordable price but they need to stand behind their words and do a better job at providing driver support.
The 8870 is a mobility card that still doesn't have the official correct driver to this DAY!!! And the laptop was released in Europe almost 2 months back. Samsung is still 'working' on it. NVidia in the past has always been better at driver releases and optimization more so ATI.
So if you want to call somebody a fool, you might wanna try Samsung instead. Just a thought.
Oh..if this makes you feel any better, I cancelled my Lenovo order last night as I decided to stick to console gaming and laptop gaming would be casual. As it is, I might end up re-buying the Bestbuy version (open box for $1049) sometime today or tomorrow. -
Has anyone heard anything more about the black version? I set a Google Alert a month ago for the words "ATIV Book 8", but nothing new came out
it's so frustrating, since the silver version has been available in my country for 3-4 weeks

So when replacing the HDD with an SDD, does the battery need to be disbaled using that tiny hole? it doesnt say anything about that in the instructions by black.
-
well i did it anyway. you need to plug the laptop in to re-connect the battery.

Also, I don't know why you're getting all excited about the 750m...it's literally just about the same performance as the 650m, a little better, which the Y500 currently already has. And so does this Macbook Pro Retina I have here. And so does the 8770m model of the Chronos, actually.
There literally is absolutely no reason to get that awful, flawed, cheap, unpremium Y500. If you want a laptop with the performance of the 750m (AKA 650m), there are literally like 10+ options for you. Asus Zenbook, Chronos 8770m, Macbook Pro Retina, and tons others.
I see you've come to your senses canceling, then. -
-
This really isn't the place to be bashing the Y500. Please try to keep this on topic...which is difficult considering the dearth of new information we have on a US-based release of the 8870 unit

anybody know of any deals on that samung 840 pro ssd in 256gb?

A question to those of you who have the touch verision:
do you use it? if you do, can you describe what you are using it for and when.

I've been thinking of buying the NP780Z5E but was concerned with the problems of the video card lacking a driver ,is that still an issue for the 8770M?

Yea, thats when I think I miss it, like when I want to scroll down or swipe something very basic (no I dont mention you start screen lol) -
It's a fantastic computer, and the video card is definitely fantastic, despite what others say.
EDIT: Or you can just post them here so others can see. -
If you type np780z5e into futureshop's search bar, you are redirected to the previous years model. This could be a sign that release is imminent as they clear inventory. Hopefully it's the one with the 8870.

I'm at bestbuy and they no longer have the hold series 7 chronos and have none on display
-
Then when I got the Bestbuy version, I played around with it and 2 days later, I found myself swiping and pinching the screen a lot more than what I had originally thought. Zoomin in pics in FB, etc is really neat.
One Sunday, I was being a couch potatoe for half a day and used the laptop on my lap for a good 3-4 hrs (on battery). I watched Hulu/Netflix from the Metro apps using the touchscreen to navigate around. The laptop did get warm but not too comfortable. My toddlers also used the Samsung drawing apps (another Metro app) using the touchscreen. The Bing Travel metro app is another good one to use the touchscreen with, especially when you launch the live videos and use the touchscreen to move the camera around.
IMO, MS has spent a lot of money, time and thought into Win8 and touchscreen technology so they would only expand the metro apps and functionality in the coming months.
Hence why I cancelled my Y500 Lenovo order. Decided that the touchscreen is something I'd rather have and not use it much rather than want it later on and not have it ;-). -

But yea, on their site it says only 2 left, and it's on sale until thursday. At the store there's an empty spot where it used to be, and had 2 open box for sale for the old one.
I really do think it'll come soon. -

The Ativ book 6 just showed up on samsung's site. They seem to be getting more and more 2013 models.
-
What's the difference between the Ativ Book 6 and Series 7 Chronos? They look exactly the same save for the color.
-
I also wrote on the facebook page of Samsung US and they told me that they can't speculate on the availability of their products...
PS: this is my first post but i've been following that thread for the last week or so. -
It's really a pity that this notebook mounts an ati gpu... I've to work on Linux with several simulators and that would be really a problem. I think the only alternative (I need high mobility) is the Asus solution.

and rotating the birds eye view in MS maps is so freaking cool. use this if you want to impress your friends! -

Thanks, MrGuitou and spybenj!
This is getting painful. I'm totally sold on this laptop except I want the 15.6" 8870m version, and I live in the US. Sigh. -
^ you aren't the only one fidgeting.
