    Hello all,

I had Win 10 but had some trouble. So now installed (fresh) Windows 8.1

I installed all the drivers but my WiFi is troubling me a lot. It keeps disconnecting. This also happened in Windows 10 (recently started problem)

Today I got a new router and tried but still sme result

    Any tips?

You are correct that a dying router is the most likely cause of this problem. Since you have eliminated this possibility (but have you checked that the router has the latest firmware?) , my next suggestion is to get the latest WiFi driver direct from Intel. If that doesn't fix the problem then you need to look at the power management options.

Yes the router is having the latest firmware. My other devices (like iPhone) doesn't have any issue even with the old router. I will check the intel drivers again.

Another possible factor is another WiFi network on the same, or close channel. However, this shouldn't be a problem if your computer is close to the router so your router has the strongest signal. You can use InSSIDer or similar program show all the WiFi signals with strength and channel. Using the 5GHz band, if your computers WiFi supports it, is the better option if close to the router.

Try in Power Managerment > Advanced, setting the Wireless Adapter to maximum performance.

If that makes no difference then I would be considering looking for a new WiFi card. it's unusual for notebook WiFi cards to die, but electronic components, like people, deteriorate with age and usage.

Did lots of digging in the internet and found out the following
    - I can apparently look for the WLAN logs in the Event Viewer which is located under
"Application and Custom logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WLAN-AutoConfig"
    - In that I can see that there has been a log for the connection drop with these messages

    1."Wireless security stopped. - Event ID 11004"
    2. "WLAN AutoConfig service failed to connect to a wireless network. - Event ID 8002"

upon further digging in the internet for these error messages found out that the IVP 6 was causing the connection drop

I went ahead and disabled it
    - Right click on the network on taskbar -> open Network sharing centre -> Connections -> Properties -> Uncheck Internet protocol v6"

After this there seem to be no connection drop and no log entries as well with the above messages

I will monitor and post back

In case anyone has this trouble you may try this approach and see

Ok. I did all possible things and even disable "Windows firewall' and I even reinstalled Win 8.1 yesterday and still WiFi gets disconnected

In the evenlogs I get this new error

    Network Adapter: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235
    Interface GUID:
Connection Mode: Automatic connection with a profile
    Profile Name: 7362 SL
    SSID: 7362 SL
    BSS Type: Infrastructure
Reason: The network is disconnected by the driver.

I have updated the driver from Samsung and Windows update has updated too

    Driver version -- 15.10.3.2

WiFi keeps disconnecting and it's really annoying. Happening only to this laptop and none of the other devices.

    Any suggestions?

    Did the following:
    - uncheked all in "Power management"
    - disabled IP V6
    - Disabled Windows Firewall
    - reinstalled OS

Try the 18.21.0 installer listed here. According to this Intel page it includes the 15.18.0.1 driver for the 6235 adapter which is newer than what you have installed. I recall that there were a lot of disconnect problems with the 6235 which were eventually fixed by driver updates and perhaps you are currently using a buggy version of the driver.

If that gives no benefit then another thing to play with is the lease setting on the router. I suggest something like 23 hours.

    Thanks John,

After my post, I found this driver update and I have updated now. I don't have access to my system now and I will check again in the evening

Also I have a static IP for my laptop on the router. Does this matter for lease setting?

    A static IP shouldn't need a lease.

Let's see if the newer driver fixes the problem.

    Update:

After the update of the Wifi drivers to 15.18.0.1, the Wifi disconnect doesn't happen fully but sometimes there is no internet but Wifi is still connected. Internet resume in few seconds. It isn't perfect but better than before.

There is no entry for in the logs as well

    Any tips?

    Thanks

Thanks for the update. I wonder whether there is a residual bug in the 6235 card / driver.

Someone here suggests disabling the 802.11n mode.

well here's an update after so long

I am here to report that after changing the SSID, disconnect never happened!

the original SSID was "AA-FRITZ!Box 7362 SL" and after changing to "AAFritzBox7362SL" the disconnection of WLAN stopped

it looks like the special characters in the name, - ! were causing the trouble

    no more disconnection!!!! yay!

Thanks for getting back with this finding. I would have never suggested that because I've never previouly read about the problem.

And I am happy to say that there are no WiFi disconnections after changing the SSID name!

Never would have thought the SSID name could lead to Wifi dropouts
