I lurk here, always have for great computer advice when I need it, I am at a dilemma, I went for a $500-600 laptop to get for college, i have a 17' monster i use for day to day at home. Went to best buy and they was out of the one i wanted, but they had this

    Samsung - Laptop / Intel® Core™ i7 Processor / 15.6" Display / 6GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - Black/Graphite - RC512-S02

in a open box, they wanted 920 for it.. so i get manager etc, and haggle down to 820, and then i bought a warranty for 3 years full accidental damage etc, which made it like 1200 total. + because laptop was over 699, they threw in free xbox 360 because i am a college student, so 1200 i got this laptop for 1200 with 3 years protection and xbox.

is this a good laptop? battery life seems to blow, its 56% and ive been on 1 1/2 hours just cruising and listening to music, but other than that, this thing seems BEAST

reason i am asking is because i found this on newegg
    Newegg.com - SAMSUNG RF Series RF511-S02 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M w/ NVIDIA Optimus
899, what is better? current or mine, if i have a good product for the price, I will keep it. but if thats better, i may switch,

should i stay with what i got? or what.
    appreciate it.

You are taking it to college, but it would be helpful if you can tell others what you are planning on using the laptop for. But on paper, the Bestbuy one seems better except for the graphics card, but difference between 540M and 525M is negligible. As long as your Bestbuy laptop works fine (and you seem to have ensured that by getting a 3-year extended warranty), openbox items are always great values. I am no expert on Samsung lines, but I assume RC512 is a better/newer model than RC511 anyway.

If this were me, I would stay put, buyer's remorse will pass after a few days.

I just watch movies, facebook, etc and i play one game time to time, requires no graphics at all. gunz online. sounds dumb, thats it really, i saw that it had a diff graphic card as u pointed out, but this one has more ram etc, but i dunno. honestly i think my laptop is ugly, but it'll pass, just wish i had the volume controls on top like that other one has.

Samsung laptops are great but the major caveat is there's no extended battery available for purchase. I bought the R580 and it's battery only lasts for 2.5 hours.

Make sure that Optimus is switching over to the Intel GPU (check in the BIOS if you can lock it to the integrated graphics). Other key power users are (i) the display; (ii) wireless and WWAN, (iii) USB (having anything connected will stop the system from powering down. HWiNFO32 can show where the power is going.
