This thread is for the SAMSUNG NP550P5C NP550P7C series.

The mainstream Series 5 notebook looks to be a very solid mid-range option that is set to ship when Ivy Bridge launches later this year. There are two models, a 15.6" (900p) and a 17.3" (1080p), both with matte 300-nit displays. Starting price is expected to be in the $799 range for the 15.6" model, and the spec list includes Ivy Bridge i5/i7 CPUs, Nvidia's GT650M with Optimus, up to 2TB of storage in the 17", Blu-ray, and JBL speakers. For a mid-range media oriented system, it looks to be very full featured and well specced, and given the quality of the display, the Series 5 is definitely a notebook to look out for in the second half of this year.

Damn. How later this year do they mean? Is Samsung really going to pair this model with the NVIDIA? Ughh... they shoulda done that from the start. i'm gonna look at different mfgs now for my next notebook.

Gonna return it now and probably get a cheap netbook (for internet) to tie me over until this or I find something as thin as this with the same features. I liked the S7 and didnt have major issues, just little ones I could work around. But the fact they're going with NVIDIA (which I prefer) on their next lineup, which they shoudve done with S7, makes me mad.

Yeah pretty much tied. On notebooks, their high-end level (GTX580M vs AMD 6990M) is pretty much equal also. IMO, Nvidia Optimus is better than AMD switchable. I have Radeons on my desktop but Nvidias on my notebooks. And I havent seen Radeon on a notebook I liked yet.

Changed my mind on returning the Samsung S7. All things considered, it's a nice notebook. Ill get IB in a mac or something.

Yeah, AMD switchable graphics is very clunky compared to Optimus.

Can you imagine just downloading any graphics driver version from NVIDIA and have it immediately install seamlessly?

Now try doing that with AMD. Warning: You may fall flat on your face.

The only thing preventing me from buying a Samsung is that it doesn't have a decent GPU. I may have to wait out for this if the GPU can actually run games.

I'm very excited about this laptop. I was just about to pull the trigger on the S7 Chronos. This seems to be a little lower end laptop as far as finish (is that case plastic or aluminum?) but the specs are better (IB processor and NVIDIA graphics) for about the same price. Ill wait for this... lets just hope this gets released sooner rather than later.

it will probably be good, atleast better than the 550m and if were lucky even a bit stronger then the 555m, then it would be very capable at running games @900p

Does this laptop have back-lit keyboard like the Series 7? I mean they both look awesome "spec-wise". Is this considered better than the Series 7?

These look very good, the only issue I have is the release date.
I mean Samsung should know that many are waiting for Ivy and personally, I'm not willing to wait until september- november or whenever.
Why can't these be released in June is beyond me...

I agree, I was going to buy a new laptop around black friday 2011, but decided to wait for the new ivy bridge processor since initially it was rumored to be released in march/april. I hope these new laptops get released before July, my 4 years old laptop is falling apart.

    Google for " NP700Z5C" (15.6") and " NP700Z7C" (17.3").

That's the series 7 models. This thread is for series 5 ;)

Not much info on the 5 series yet, few hits on google like this (NP550): Samsung NP550P5C-S03UK - Laptop computers

also there is an youtube vid of the NP550: Samsung Chronos 7 with Ivy Bridge Hands on - YouTube (mislabeled as chronos, but it's the NP550)

My guess is that limited supply of 28nm nvidia GFX chips and low volume? of ivy bridge CPUs is delaying the mainstream models since they are less profitable than the more expensive chronos 7 series.

    Oops!

The Samsung global downloads site lists an NP550P5C and an NP550P7C as the only NP5 series with a "C" suffix.

I hope the 15 incher has an i7 and not an i5. If it does I will most likely buy it. Though the low res might ruin it for me.

Oh, it's in India alright. Released this month, nothing on site though. Found it here http://www.deltapage.com/list/laptop.pdf as the NP550P5C-S02IN. Scroll down to the Samsung section and its on the first page. Can't wait to get my hands on this baby! :)
