I called samsung and the guy talked confidently but clearly didn't have a clue. .he thought there was one slot that could take any capacity of RAM and that all computers are unlimited in the capacity they can take. So if a 64GB stick came out in future I could put it in. I told him computers aren't like that, and he's not right and he can check crucial.com who list computer models and their max -capacity- of RAM. I told him he can check his info and if he thinks it's right he can email me. He said he can't they can only give that info over the phone!!
He also thought that the max module you can buy anywhere at the moment is 4GB so that's the max you can put in. I told him actually I have a laptop that with an 8GB module in it.

Anyhow, I thought I might get a better answer here.

It seems incredibly dumb to me, to have a laptop that is named after a web browser.. whose browsing is so limited as to only allow like 2GB RAM. or 4GB, And in the year 2013 when another cheap laptop that happens to have a fan, can take 16GB.

With the amount of browser windows I have open and amount of tabs. even 12GB isn't always quite enough! though i'm currently using about 6GB RAM (no doubt most of it by chrome).. This is the year 2013.. I want 16GB Max. On a fanless device..

What's the max I can put on.. If it's stuck at 2GB then it looks like a scam to me! And if it's one slot and can't take 16GB, in the year 2013, then I think they're being deliberately difficult.

Ridiculously their website doesn't state the max, which makes me think it might be soldered in. Basically a scam

Update- Just called Google Play store.. he thought RAM in any chromebook is not expandable at all. And he has 25 tabs and 2GB is fine. I told him i've got 49 in one window. He just said wow.
It looks quite insufficient for me. Crazy in 2013 to be limited only allowed 2GB.

Do not forget that this model of the Chromebook runs a lean operating system on an ARM RISC CPU. Think tablet with separate keyboard and screen (the Chromebook CPU is also used in some tablets). And 2GB RAM in a tablet is well above average. I expect the RAM and SSD are soldered on the board as would be the case for a tablet.

Read through the reviews at Amazon.com for more insight into how well this Chromebook works.

Samsung also make a Chromebook with an Intel CPU. That model has 4GB RAM - perhaps a reflection that programs running on a CISC CPU need more space.
