    My first post;

    I had enough with the one I brought last year. Reliability issues and a really crap sound and sfx chipset I decided to take advantage of a finance offer that I pay over 13 months interest free.

    I went after the Samsung M40 the lightest 17" screen laptop in the world.

    Had 2nd thoughts with the sfx chipset as the FX5200 is the lowest out of the set but its not so bad. It plays Serious Sam SE with no problems. My last laptop had problems with the frame rate. That was the Ati IGP series. The screen quality excellent through 17" screen and its really thin too. I saw other laptops with the 9700 Ati Range but the battery life was very poor only up to 2-3hrs. The M40 can go up to 4hrs but playing games and DVDs 2-3hrs I think is more relistic [?]

    I never knew that the Centrino technology would make a difference but the heat management is so much better than the last. My old laptop's fan used to kick in every so often and it sound naff. This one is nice and quiet.

    I know a few people here know their laptops so any views would be nice?

    Rite first thing is first this laptop is out of this world.the spear size and the looks just get 10 out of 10.When u plug this laptop in 2 the mains u can really feel the power shurging threw it on the aluminum palm-rest.The battery life is pretty cool.I get around 3 and a half hours out of her surfing the net.The screen on her is so thin,Iam scared i will break it like my old toshiba.The wireless is a nice extra with the centrino.My m8 next door does not know iam on his wireless lol[ :D] .On the touch pad its got a class scroll feature.Sumsumg gave the battery a power meter,tellin u what the power level is.I agree with TPKing on the fan on the M40, old laptop did the same.Used to kick in ALL the time,pissed me off alot but not now [ :)].bottom line for all u yanks out there i really do feel for u not getting this laptop in 2 the U.S,It really is a dream powerhouse and like i say looks 2 kill.

    Hey,

    I have 1 of these but it keeps over heating and shutting down :( Does anyone know how to take the back cover off with out snapping it? I want to replace the Thermal Paste but can't get to it.

    Help!!!

    I doubt if it is the thermal paste. It is more likely the accumulation of dust in the cooling system. See the pictures in this thread about the X20 for an idea of the problem (and how to dismantle that notebook).

    However, you still need to get inside to do a proper cleaning although you might be able to shift a lit of dust using a can of compressed air and blasting in through the available openings (such as the memory compartment).

    Probably, removal of the bottom involves (i) removing all covers on the bottom; (ii) removing every screw you can find on the bottom (check also around the hinges); then (iii) prising apart the joint between the bottom and the palm rest/ keyboard surround.

    Hope this helps,

    John
