    Hi All:

I recently was led to believe the NC10 S.E. wasn't going to arrive at Amazon until April 27th.

After email Amazon twice, and reading other customer reports of communication with Sumsung...it seemed Amazon was confused and had no idea. I canceled my order two days ago only to see Amazon finally updated the NC10 SE product page.

I have now, again!!! ordered the NC10 SE and with gold box and free two day shipping, got a decent deal.

Thought you guys might be interested.

Haha nice, if you have Prime, or sign up for the trial, you'll get it even quicker.

Yep...I did the prime free trial as well. $24 to get it 2 business day otherwise...I doubt I will keep amazon prime...$80 is a bit much for the few things I order from them. We'll see though...I like getting things quickly...so who knows.

It's a shame this SE only comes in black. I'd really prefer blue or white, personally.

BTW, I love Amazon Prime. My wife and I order a lot of stuff from Amazon so it really pays off.

The "new" atom is a marketing tactic with no real world differences.

I read somewhere that it uses less power. How can we confirm?

    The unboxing:

Pics aren't great. Had to use camcorder to take them as wife had the digital camera at the time.

60 Mhz in clock speed and marginal increase in FSB leads to that much performance difference? I call "ASUS BENCHMARK" lol. Like how they compare their netbook with any other and always come out on top.

Also, I was curious about the power figures.

I'd be very skeptical about those claims. A standard excess service-disabling from an XP reinstall has granted the NC10 24.109 seconds with BootTimer (30 seconds of real time boot) and some users have gotten it down to 15.984 seconds, which is DRAMATICALLY different than their estimated 46 seconds. What I'd like to see is benchmarks from independent sources.

Furthermore, 5 seconds vs 7 seconds? Opening an MS document file is instant. Talk about marketting..

Why don't you buy and try one for yourself? Only $374... ;)

Because I don't want to waste their money by returning it. They can't resell it for new. And I probably still won't find a difference. Like I said, 46 boot up time is not close to what I'm seeing or what others have been getting optimized.

Oh, btw thanks for the pictures mismith :D ;)

Do you mind posting a clear picture (or measuring) the trackpad?

Hey Mark...yeah, I can measure the track bad tomorrow. The difference is likely to be minor. I feel the trackpad is still quite small compared to other netbooks I looked at but I am otherwise very happy with my purchase. The fit and finish on the NC10 SE (and regular NC10) are well above the ASUS and MSI unit I saw at the big box retail stores. Lenovo would be the best competitor in terms of build quality I think.

The newest S10's with 6 cell batteries might be tied as far as looks and feel. But I am happy with my Sammy :D

That 16 second boot time was impressive. Got any details on how you achieved it? Is your system still otherwise usable after the optimizations?

Yeah, the only trackpad that I consider big is the N10J, the rest are relatively small compared to normal sized laptops, but with high sensitivity I have no complaints. :D

I just want to know if it covers all the way from top to bottom. As for the boot times, mine is at 24 seconds with boot timer. I haven't worked for the 15.9 seconds yet as I've only done basic tweaks, but with complete optimization it should be doable. It shouldn't make a difference in terms of usability, but I'm too lazy to do all the research. I think something about removing the recovery partition. You can download Microsoft's Bootvis to do a basic optimization of the startup time for XP systems, run tools like CCleaner, stop excess services and startups, etc.
