This bears asking, but did you try the samsung website first?

    http://www.samsung.com/us/

I know for sure they have drivers for Windows XP. Did they work on your Vista install?

Not to sound rude, but im not an idiot, of course i checked the samsung website. They only have the Win XP drivers which i highly doubt are going to work in Vista. Any other help anyone can provide would be appreciated.

You need to go round the various hardware manufacturer's sites to get their latest Vista drivers, so first go into Device Manager and note note down the hardware details. However, I would expect Vista SP1 to make a fair attempt at getting the basic hardware right since the Intel 945 chipset is hardly cutting-edge.

What benefits do you anticipate from installing Vista?

For most Vista driver, use Gigabyte's
M912 Vista Drivers (Wireless, Chipset, Audio):
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Notebook/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2835

For touchpad, get the latest version: google this Synaptics_11.2.4.0 and install
    Then download two finger scroll:
    http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-scroll/
(This utility will enable 2/3 fingers multi touch function such as 2 fingers scrolling, 3 fingers tap right click)

For Fn Keys: download Easy_Display_Manager and MagicKBD from Samsung site (install under XP comparability also make the exe files to run under xp comp mode)

I think XP Home is good for most ppl but it lacks unicode support out of box (can't read chinese site) and I no longer use XP on all my systems so no XP CD to install the chinese fonts. I've read reports from liliputing that netbook runs better with Vista and its power management does give me 7 hr with lowest brightness with Power Saver mode.

Currently, I have Windows 7 PDC build on my NC10. My friends are impress how fine it runs with Aero enabled. I believe ppl should give Vista a try. Here's a screenshot to prove my points.

If it is legal, then it may be discussed in the Windows 7 thread.

If it is not legal, then don't discuss it here.

Ohh, my uncle works for Compal and attended the PDC 2008 where Windows 7 build 6801 aka PDC build was given out to attendees for testing purpose.

I took his iso and install it on my NC10 through Flash Drive then activate it with his key (works for 10 PCs only I heard).

You can find it on major tor sites. but you have to search for a key to activate. I'm not allowed to post these kind of links here sorry.

The latest leak build is 6956. But it reported to not being able to activate due to its leakness. Fortunately, Windows 7 Beta 1 will be out on mid-January. Just be patient.

Took me a long while to find all my Vista drivers, perhaps I will compile one (probably not)..

    1. LAN driver is Marvell miniport driver, download the latest generic one (the only one there) off Marvell's site

    2. Graphics driver is Intel's generic driver, 15.8.3.1504 dated June 27, 2008

    3. Wireless driver is Atheros 7.6.0.154 dated 6/30/2008 download from

The below can be found from the X360-34P Samsung notebook download page
    4. Easy Display Manager -> controls your Functions keys and brightness/volume

    5. Touchpad -> Synaptic driver, MULTITOUCH AWESOMENESS!

    6. Bluetooth -> not needed as Vista has their own. Note that DISABLING bluetooth even via Device Manager does not affect the battery life (guess it's still on), yes I've done it and compared.

    7. Sound -> Realtek **DO NOT CONFUSE WITH THE HD AUDIO DRIVER from Realtek's site. The one you are looking for is 6.0.1.5659 through Samsung's notebook page.

That should be all you need. The rest isn't necessary

I cannot post links as I do not meet the 15 post requirement. If the community and/or mod would like me to compile a Vista driver list/package or post w/ links and whatnot I would be happy to, call it a IACEDMYFINALS offer :D

Thanks for the LAN driver. I couldn't figure that one out but didn't matter much cuz I always on Wifi. It's good to see that yellow sign goes away tho.

Wait, so no need MagicKbd at all? I thought it responsible for some fn keys. Let me try removing it ..

i know this is irrelevant, but ... NC-10 has no DVD drive?

actually, on a more relevant matter, is upgrading to Vista worth it on a machine that can only use 2GB of memory?

I don't think any netbook has a built-in optical drive.

Would one want to upgrade to Vista even without the 2GB limit?

    1. As said, DisplayManager controls all your keyboard stuff.
    2. You'd be hard pressed to find any space to accommodate an optical drive. Who uses optical anymore anyways?
    3. Since when did Vista require more than 2GB to run smoothly? My NC10 runs it just fine with 1GB and usually there's more than half of it still available.

Finished the conversion last night. All hardware is working perfectly as well as all Samsung specific software. Battery life is reporting in at 5:54 @ 86% with 60% brightness and wifi enabled. So far no major issues so I am happy to say that Vista works flawlessly on the NC10 and IMO is well worth the effort.

I was resistant to Vista at first, but i upgraded with my W3J, and i actually liked it once i had gotten used to the changes from XP to V.

so yea, i would want to stick with Vista if i got the NC10.

though, i wish i hadn't sold all my DVD burner drives. life would be somewhat strange without the ability to burn discs.

There's a selection of slim external USB-powered DVD burners appearing to meet the needs of netbook users.

You still burn discs? CD? DVD?
I stop burning discs 2 yr ago since I got a 6GB USB drive and a 100GB 2.5" External drive powered by USB. It's good to see DVD drive gone in netbook. Beside discs are so inconvenient and fragile they might not work after a week with scratches (made by dvd drives).

The only time when I needed to burn DVD is for vista. But since Feb 2007, I found a way to install vista/xp/7 through Flash drive which saves me alot of time and money.

if i think about it, i really dont' burn discs. but there are very few times that i do... i guess i can transfer files over wifi to my step dad's laptop and burn it through his drive.

i wonder how much i can get if i sold my W3J...

Hi... even I have installed Vista on NC10.. but have one question. Are you able to control the screen brightness (auto-dim when on battery) using Vista's built-in option or do you use Samsung Battery Manager for the same?

I would think Samsung publishes drivers for Vista on it's (korean) website because Vista is supported on NC11.

I have installed the Samsung Battery manager and allow it to control brightness while on Battery. I can control manually though.
