Hey guys, just picked up a new Samsung NP305E5A-A03US from bestbuy ( Samsung - Laptop - Silver - NP305E5A-A03US) and was wondering if anyone knew what I should be looking for in terms of a memory upgrade. It's been a while since I've bought any computer parts to do upgrades of my own so thought I'd check here to prevent any mistaken purchases. It already has 4 gigs, so I was hoping to just add another 4, but I don't know if it's a good idea to mix and match brands and what not. Any tips?

edit: some specs - AMD A6-3420M w/ a ATI 6520G, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM according to the page. if needed I can try opening up the laptop to check out what's in there already

Any DDR3 SODIMM should work. Most modern notebooks aren't very fussy about mixing RAM. However, I see that this model has an AMD CPU and graphics (but the info doesn't mention the chipset) and the last notebook I used which was a little fussy about RAM was the Samsung R20 with AMD chipset. Notebookcheck says that the CPU has a built-in memory controller with 1333MHz so that is the spped i would look for.

thanks for the info. since you mentioned that AMD sometimes has issues and I think I read somewhere else that AMD chipsets can be more picky with RAM, I thought I'd post some CPU-Z info here to see if I could get some more help with this one (see attached)

I would look for 1333MHz RAM. If you are worried further about matching the RAM then look for a Samsung module.
