Have a USB 2 mouse that doesn't work in the USB 3.0 ports (and just the USB2). However, the USB2 mouse in question works on a different machine's USB 3.0 ports. The real difference is the USB controller: my computer has the Asmedia 104x USB controller, the other uses Intel.
I've tested the Samsung USB 3.0 driver, Asmedia doesn't appear to have drivers on their website.
Suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.
(Looked at ASMEDIA drivers & firmwares and tested the drivers to no avail, but nervous about the firmware.)
Not sure I want to do firmware; or if I want to reinstall windows.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

That's the first time I've heard of the Asmedia USB 3.0 control. I had expected the Z5B would use the Renesas controller as used in the Series 9s. There have been several firmware updates issued for the Renesas but not all though the Samsung update system.

Hello winsettz,
I have an NP700Z3A with very similar hardware to yours, except CPU and LCD size. We even have the same GPU (AMD 6490M). I also have ASMedia USB3 controller (displayed as ASMedia ASM1042 USB 3.0 XHCI Controller in HwInfo).
And I CAN use my cheap old Logitech USB2 mouse in both USB2 and USB3 ports, both in Win8 (using built-in USB3 drivers) and in Win7 (using USB3.0_1.14.3.0.zip from Samsung.com).
So, I think your problem is NOT one of having to find an exotic ASMedia driver. The standard Samsung-provided one should work. Here are the things I would try:
1) Uninstall any currently installed USB3 drivers and re-install the latest Samsung-provided one (from the web site or downloaded with SW Update). Again, mine is USB3.0_1.14.3.0.zip.
2) Depending on how much experimenting you've done, it may be worth deleting the the actual device in Device Manager and check Delete the driver software for this device, then reboot, before you re-install the USB3 driver.
3) Try another USB2 mouse if you have one -- just to check that the USB3 port is working right with USB2 mice. Microsoft mice are a notorious mess when it comes to drivers. If it works with another mouse, you know the issue is with the mouse or its driver.
4) Try any other USB device in the USB3 port, just to make sure it's working (you probably already did).
I may be able to think of other things, but let us know how those steps go first.
Edit: Oops, I see that John beat me to it. And his post reminded me of the questions I forgot:
A) I am on BIOS 15FD, which is the latest for my model. I haven't had any issues. I think the Ivy Bridge models are the ones where some BIOS updates have caused problems. It's a completely different line of BIOS software.
B) I don't think you'll have to re-install Windows. At least lets try a few more things first.
