This is a basic continuation of the issues I am having with this machine. If you want a history you can read "It's a Lemon..." thread.
I downloaded drivers for my pointing device because it was not working correctly after bringing the machine back to life. Here are the symptoms -
1. Pointer moves about just fine.
2. Swipe from the right to the left opens the menus on the right side of the display for settings, search, etc...
3. Sometimes tapping works but most of the time it does not.
4. Left click and right click button do not work.
5. Initially when the PC starts and the mouse is moved, a highlight box appears on the screen. Pressing the ESC key clears that box.
6. For the most part, I have to use keyboard commands to move about applications.
So you know the machine and the software is Windows 8. BIOS was upgraded to P06AAE per BIOS updater software. Checked multiple times to make sure the version did not change on me.
There are a host of other problems but for now, I need to concentrate on this one issue.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian D

Do the basic functions work OK without any Elantech driver installed? if not, there could be a problem with the pad itself, the connection to the mainboard or the MICOM (which definitely handles keyboard input and might also provide the touchpad interface). I mention the MICOM because it can be updated when the BIOS is updated and hence may also be vulnerable to corruption. However, if the keyboard itself is working fine then perhaps this is very unlikely to be the issue.
Otherwise, if the basic pad functions without a driver are OK then you can try other versions using the Find Model function in SW Update to rummage through the database. It's a generic driver so versions offered for most Series 7, 8 and 9 should work.

John, I think it might be a combination of both. The pad works when I slide my finger over it, but the double tapping does not work, or is intermittent. So I believe that to be software related. The left and right click do not work at all and I believe that to be hardware related. Maybe L2 took the MB out and did not align the pads correctly.
I will try loading other drivers and see what happens.
Thanks,

Pads or even then ribbon connection may have an issue too.

Yeah, but I believe it is software, possibly a conflict somewhere. It started to work just fine this morning. But every once in awhile it will stop working and then start working again.

Or it may be a dodgy connection.
