Days out of warranty, the screen flashed a bit, I tried to restart and now nothing. I assume that the motherboard is what is dead because when I turn the laptop on, the screen doesn't show the BIOS and not even a fan spins. But maybe there is some magic I don't know about.

This laptop was treated with kid gloves. My previous Series 9 was over 4 years old when it finally gave up. I expected better.

Something on the motherboard is the most likely culprit, if you have any spare RAM though you should try testing that. If that doesn't work though you are pretty much screwed. This is the main reason I'll never buy a BGA laptop again - i'm sick of them failing early and being unable to fix them.

That is what I expected. 1 year is just insane to me for a $1400 laptop.

I agree. Though it is just out of warranty you might get lucky if you contact support.
