Hi, I got my Samsung laptop last Christmas. I've adored it since it's so lightweight and a surprisingly good gaming laptop given I got it for very little. The big downside for me though is that the screen is very susceptible to pressure marks.
I'm wondering how you actually fix these? I know the damage is generally permanent, but to what? Does it just require a new filter? And how can I stop it happening again? There's not enough distance between the keyboard and screen.
I can live with it for now, but it's an issue. Also, if I WAS to replace it, could I replace it with an LCD panel with a better contrast ratio? Is this possible? The contrast on this is fairly poor. If I could even double it that'd be great.

Are the marks bright patches on the display (noticeable in use) or marks on the surface that aren't noticeable in use? The bright patches are caused by pressure on the LCD matrix which is sometimes caused by pressure on the back of the display.
Surface damage / dirt / grease on the screen from keys may be cleanable to some extent (damp cloth with a hint of liquid detergent and wipe without pressing very hard). Protection against further occurrence can be provided by remembering to place a sheet of paper on the keyboard before closing the computer.
Display replacement isn't easy. You have to find a specialist supplier who knows enough about the displays and the connectors to be able to identify any alternatives. Your basic problem is that the Series 3 are Samsung's budget range and one of the areas where they have reduced cost is by using bottom end displays.

I don't mind paying a little if I can get a better screen. Is this possible? As far as I know you need to get one with the same ins and outs, which depends on the resolution. I don't want a higher resolution screen, but I would like better contrast ratio. -

People are selling what they say are compatible displays. (I presume your model number is NP355V5C).
However, there's no indication of whether they are of better quality than the originals. The one I linked to says it is LG Philips (but you could ask the seller to confirm). What is the model code of your current display? Moninfo will tell you the details.

AUO21EC is what moninfo says
Also i have problems with the monitor staying at full brightness and i often have to close and open several times before it fixed itself. given i tend to use laptops in bed in low light conditions, this can be really awkward. -

So an LG-Philips panel would be different and might be better.
I think the display brightness issue is more likely to be either at the BIOS or software level. Are you using SW Update to keep up-to-date?
