I've got a new Series 3 15.6" laptop, model NP300-V5A-A02US, and have a question about the partitions. During setup, i just went with the defaults but i'm not sure if that's what i should have done. the c: disk with all the programs on it, windows, etc, has 270gb total; this is also where i have all my documents and movies and so forth. the empty d: drive has 406 gb on it. and the recovery drive is hidden.

i mean, should i be putting all my user data on the d: drive to keep it separate from the system and program files? or what? or should i attempt to combine the partitions? or just leave well enough alone?

    thanks!

in my case i keep everything separated. if i need to format, i know i have my documents, pictures and downloads in a separate partition and they're safe.
imho it agilizes safety and time.

    my 2 cents :)

I also keep my user files in a separate partition to the operating system. Samsung Recovery Solution also puts user backups of C: onto D:.

    Thanks!

Luis: if you have to reformat, you can just reformat that one partition?

John: so if i keep things the way they are, i could just have SRS backup everything to the d drive? just curious.

i've i wanted to move everything to do the d: drive, is it as simple as copy/paste from one partition to the other? i take it you're not putting the entire user file over on d:. what parts of it are you putting there?

Maybe SRS has changed recently but recovery of C: (or reinstallation of the factory image) would replace whatever was on C:

Give it a try. Regular user backups of C: would mean that you don't lose much in the event of a calamity (but I also recommend backing up anything that matters onto an external drive - HDDs can, and do, die)

My My Documents folder is on F:! My HDD structure has 5 partitions for historical reasons. Also, I don't like my files buried under Users/John/... It's further to go digging.
