UGH!!!! You beat me lol i was JUST about to post this haha
out of the X series this is the one im keeping my eye on.
Apparently the base model has 2GB Ram and is DDR3(As you stated) -
Looks really interesting!
If this comes out within a reasonable time frame it might be a good contender versus the Acer Timeline 1410/1810 and similar netbooks/ultraportable notebooks. -
kinda ugly IMO
edit: this is old X12C model, i followed the *wrong* link.. ^^
browse down bit further for right pics.. -
That is the old X12C, not the new X120
I made the same mistake. Sorry for the wrong link.
-
Doh..!! here is the right pics.. very nice.indeed. ^^

BAttery really sticks out on 11.6" models.
That being said it is is easy to access all compartments in the 11.6" -

If the price will be in the same range as the SU4100 1810t(z), this will indeed be a good contender! -

And The Inquirer states that the X120 will be available in September (but my guess is very late in the month).
John -
I really hope that they will put a competitive price on the X120 so that it can compete with the Acer Timeline 1410/1810 and other ULV powered notebooks that are bound to be popping up soon.
Too bad on the battery and mouse buttons though, I think alot of people might dislike that, myself included. -
-
i really love the design of it but i found this earlier in the day, and the price does not look very encouraging...

Thats 514 pounds for the model which doesnt even have the core 2 duo su4100, they are charging it for single core su2700 1.3ghz... dont know how much more its going to cost to get the dual core version :/ dont know how prices convert to the US. -
Also found this interesting article between Samsung Product Manager Daniel Hill and techradar.
What are they trying to say? the X120 11.6 inch will only have a core 2 solo? and that the x420 and x520 will get core 2 duo chips? So will the X120 not get a core 2 duo?
http://www.techradar.com/news/mobil...ght-low-voltage-x-series-notebook-range-63170
Following on from this morning's N-Series netbook launches, Samsung has added to its X-Series thin-and-light range. Last year's X360 will be retained, but we've now got the X520, X420 and X120 to go alongside.
"Samsung Product Manager Daniel Hill told TechRadar that only the X120 will launch initially in the UK with Windows XP, but that it "will be refreshed" and the other two models introduced when Windows 7 launches on 22 October. Hill couldn't confirm the version of Windows 7 that would launch on the X-Series.
The X120 will launch with the Intel Core 2 Solo, while the other two models will have Core 2 Duo chips. Memory will vary between 2-4GB while storage will be between 160-500GB. All have Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics.
In terms of weight, the X420 weighs 1.76kg, the X520 is 2.09kg and the X120 is 1.36kg and each is around the height of an £1 coin. Each has 11.6-inch, 14-inch and 15.6-inch 16:9 displays respectively. Samsung says the 6-cell series battery delivers up to 9 hours.
HDMI is included on all three, as are three USB ports, webcam and a memory card reader.
We've had a hands-on with all three X-Series netbooks and the new N-Series netbooks and we'll be sharing our thoughts here soon."

This looks like a great second laptop. The looks though leave a lot to be desired. Also, whilst i am not obessive about thin laptops this looks a bit thick.
It would be fantastic if Samsung could come out with more of a premium model and still keep the optical in place. -
-
Ok, thanks for that Phil.
I read a post that suggested that it did. I will also take a look at the x170. -
Video of the X170 is here:
http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...amsung-x170-another-culv-x-series-laptop.html
Pricing on the X120 doesn't look promising. It's 150 euros more than Acer 1810T for the same configuration. X170 will probably be more expensive. -
Been searching for a good 11.6 laptop with all round good specs, design and battery. I know a lot of people have been searching for a 6 cell X120 as opposed to the 4 cell thats always in this model, which is a propper let down.
If anyone here was looking i found one, also has a SU7300 processor and windows 7 pro! (£562)

I just ordered a HP DM1. It's £326 at Laptopsdirect.co.uk. Better value for money in my opinion.
-
Yea that is a lot better value, i just needed a better processor. Slowness has been known to cause my laptops to end up in trees after not to long. haha
Just hope the six cell on the samsung doesnt stick out loads since it was originally designed for a 4cell... -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Trusted Reviews have looked at the X120. The run time with a 4 cell battery seems to be a significant handicap.
John -
But on the other hand the six-cell battery in this review
http://hi-tech.mail.ru/review/item/1808/
(use google-translate and scroll down) had an extraordinary battery life!
550 minutes max battery life and 365 minutes under intensive load... -
I have an X120 on order in Sweden, delivery in about two weeks. 6-cell battery, Win7HP 64-bit, SU7300, 4GB memory, 320GB disk. Sounds an awful lot like the X170 specs, I'm wondering if X170 isn't just a local brand for the Korean market. Visually I cannot see any difference from the X120 images posted at Samsung Sweden. Specs are exactly the same.
Also, Samsung Korea lists no X120 notebook.
This product page shows the profile of the 6-cell (8850 mAh) battery:
http://www.samsung.com/sec/consumer...=notebook&subtype=ntpc&model_cd=NT-X170-PA53B
apparently it adds slightly to height but does not extrend in the back.

Mine's delieverd next week so i'll report back with my findings -
Got mine a few days ago: SU7300, 2x2GB, 320GB disk, 6-cell battery, piano black lid, Win7HP 32-bit, Swedish keyboard. Price was 6399 SEK plus sales tax, which today translates to USD 919.
In the box is a flimsy slipcase. I'm getting something better. Power supply is tiny, smallest I ever seen for a computer. 19V, 2.1A. Mains cord is grounded though, so some of the compactness is lost there.
The six-cell battery protrudes slightly below, maybe 7 mm. It's a sacrifice worth making to get long battery life. Weight with six-cell is 1560 grams.
X120 has a 2.5" hard drive, this is great for anyone planning to upgrade to an SSD later as the selection and pricing is much better on 2.5" form factor than on 1.8".
Only one memory chip seems accessible, the other one must be soldered on the mainboard.
The config sold here doesn't come with recovery media, so some care is recommended when installing a different OS. I backed it all up to my home server, then wiped the disk clean and installed Win7 64-bit from my MSDN subscription. All internal devices were recognized by Win7, but it's of course a good idea to install Samsung's drivers.
64-bit Win7 is strongly recommended, the SU7300 flies through tasks with little effort. As an alternative to an Atom-based netbook, it's a lot faster. I have a dual-core Atom 330 in my file server, and that one is nowhere near this laptop in performance.
Aero runs well, as well as Media Center video playpack in SD quality. I have no HD media to try with.
CPU temps are at 40-50C, with the occasional spike to 57C on full load. Fan is not completely silent in normal mode, but it's a pleasant sound.
Battery life: in normal use (web, office) I probably get in the range 5-10 hours. It's probably possible to milk out 9 hours, what's important for me is that I don't have to bring the power supply unless I have a full working day ahead of me.
Keyboard is great. Mouse button placement is a problem for me at least initially.
Build quality: All plastic, but not a cheap feel. -
Interesting to note re battery life: The battery is always cool to the touch, no heat is transferred from CPU to the battery compartment. This is likely good for battery life, as Li-Ion cells don't like heat.
A BIOS setting limits charge to 80% of full capacity, to prolong battery life. From what I have read about Li-Ion batteries, this is not a bad idea for extending battery lifetime, as full charging wears down a battery quickly. 80% should still be 4-7 hours. -
I ordered mine on november 7th, nearly a month ago. Still hasnt arrived because there wasn't any stock. There's no stock indicator on the site. Do you think that gives me reasonable grounds to ask for a discount of some kind? I hate this kind of stuff!
-
Mine has November 2009 as build date so I would guess that the distribution of the Win7 models has just started.
BTW re your signature - with the 6-cell battery the weight is 1.56 kg. -
Samsunglaptop.com (UK based) - avoid
Have been given 2 seperate guarentees of a delivery week, but those came and went (2 & 3 weeks ago). Also in the first week of waiting there was no email or anything to indicate stock was at zero, and nothing on the website either.
They don't seem to have a clue and half the time if I send an email it gets no reply (Have sent a few since every week I hear "it's coming next week" and then nothing turns up). They said they are getting a stock delievery of laptops friday so in their words "maybe it will arrive then". Surely they know what stock they are having delivered?? For someone who was looking forward to a "next day delivery" this has been very frustrating.
Have been thinking about going for the Lenovo u350 instead, but would really like a samsung laptop. There should really be some sort free accessory or something for being messed around this much.
/rant -
As long as it's decently priced I think it's worth waiting for.
Why don't you call Samsung UK and complain? It's their reseller site isn't it? Maybe you can get an explanation. -
Going to ring them today and if they don't have an exact date for me then i'm going to buy the su4100 model from an actual shop and then buy the six cell battery seperately when it's available to put in the su4100 model.
There isn't a big difference between the su7300 and the su4100 processor is their? Bearing in mind i'm only really looking to use windows 7 so don't really need virtualization, if I understand it correctly. -
The big diff with the su7300 is L2 cache size of 3M vs 2M, and virtualization. So it will be faster to some degree - but you're not looking for a speed demon anyway. So yeah, not a big difference.
Keep in mind that only one memory slot is easily accessible through the hatch on the underside. If the second one is removable or soldered in I don't know. -
Well the laptop arrived tuesday!
First impressions were great and was very happy to see it came with the piano black lid as opposed to silver. Love the chrome accents around the edges. Feels very well put together aswell with no flex anywhere.
The battery is great and barely sticks out from the bottom, in reality this actually makes a very nice bit of breathing room for the laptop so it stays cool, not that it gets very hot at all. Right now the battery is saying 10hrs of life!
The touchpad is nice and clearly defined. It's pretty easy to get used to the flanking buttons, which I thought would be a pain. The speakers also go up to a decent volume, alot better than on my old advent laptop anyway, otherwise the laptop is also a very quiet machine.
Processor is pretty snappy. Have had 8 downloads going at once and still could watch a youtube video (when on optimal performance mode). Even in power saver mode the laptop does the job just fine, so don't let the 1.3 clock speed put you off.
Can't really find any fault with it, sounds more like a sales pitch than a descriptionAnyway was worth the 1 month delay in shipping in the end.
-
Glad to hear that Steve
I'm having more trouble gettig used to the mousebutton layout but it's a personal thing. Check out the multitouch settings in the synaptics driver. Also, 64-bit Windows works very well with this computer, all drivers are available and work OK.
I set mine to stop charging at 80%, to reduce battery wear. I'm still getting at least 5 hours which is plenty for me. -

Hi
Can you let me know where you obtained your six cell X120 in the UK?
An online search has so far come up with the cheapest price of £411 (Misco) for the four cell and £599 (Stuffuk) for the 6 cell - which works out at a pretty expensive 6 cell battery!
Alternatively, can you buy the 6 cell battery separately?
Thanks
Tim -
You can get a 6-cell at laptops direct - looks like it has a slightly better processor (SU7300 rather than SU4100) and and less ram.
I've found the 4-cell laptop for £399 at carphonewarehouse and a 6-cell battery for £92.10 at microwarehouse so might go for this.
