Cool. Thanks for the update.
-
Is that the Vista version which is already shipping in South Korea?
-
Nice find.
-
Only interested if it has:
- NV 9400 GPU/chipset
- Same matte casing
- Basically same design but with the improved 9400.
I'd get rid of my NC10 right away if they just did that "simple" chipset swap. -

How to improve on the NC10?
(i) Thinner (but not resulting in a smaller, noisy, fan)
(ii) Even longer battery life (so I wouldn't want a chipset that doesn't match Intel's power efficiency)
(iii) Slightly bigger touchpad (while not shrinking the keyboard)
(iv) Sleep 'n' charge on one USB port
(v) 3G
(vi) Express card slot
(vii) Enough fast solid state storage to hold the operating system while keeping the HDD for bulk storage.
I wouldn't want the display any smaller because, unless the keyboard is also shrunk, we would end up with a bigger display bezel.
If, however, Samsung think there is also room for an NC9, then that could have a smaller display and keyboard.

....dont be surprised if this thing has a dedicated GPU the NC10 in many ways seem superior to alot of the current netbooks that being said they probably are looking to make something unlike anything we've seen im sure they are gonna target the asus n10j.....i hope

NC20 is coming
Samsung going to launch NC20, the upcoming netbook that still in the progress. The Samsung NC20 will powered by 1.3GHz Intel Via Nano U2250 (u2350?) processor with 1GB memory and 160GB hard drive. On its 12.1-inch widescreen display running Windows XP Home operation system. It provide with ergonomic keyboard along with 1.3-megapixel webcam. It support Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and 3-in-1 card reader. Samsung NC20 will available in February 2009 and priced at €461 ($641). -
How does the 1.3GHz Nano U2250 compare in performance to the 1.6Ghz Atom?
Why the sudden change? -

If it is the Via Nano, then it isn't Intel. Trusted Reviews made an Atom - Nano comparison.

Wonder how Atom+Nvida Ion chipset will do vs Nano+???? chipset?
-
Its too big for me but its great to see a big name get behind Via Nano. Let's see how it compares to the Atom in real-life usage, both speed and battery-wise.

my oh my is ATI missing out what are they doing? Nows the time to get an AMD netbook with like a 3450 integrated...
-
A contact within Samsung has confirmed the 12" NC20. It will have the same styling as NC10.

Is the Via Nano CPU the consequence of Intel not allowing the inexpensive Atom being used on bigger than 10" machines? I also thought Microsoft had a similar size restriction relating to XP being used.
John -
This may well be the explanation why Dell Mini 12 is more expensive, comes with a different Atom and Vista. -
If Dell and Samsung managed to get XP ULCPC on 12" 1280x800, I sure hope HP is able to do it with the next Mini-Note.A 10" screen with that res would be heavenly
-
They can ship it with a normal XP Home license, but not with the XP Home for ultralow cost PC's (The latter being cheaper). At least, that's what I read.

Implementing a bigger touchpad (like you mentioned) without cost to the keyboard would be second on the list.
The NC10 seems to be able to run Vista as is, so for me, give these it would make the NC10 the perfect netbook as far as I'm concerned. At least, until the next generation of netbooks (with new CPUs and such) come along. -
I very much like my NC10, but my perfect notebook is a matte 12" w/ 1280x800 res, full size keyboard, 6+ hours battery, 3 lbs, and $500. If the NC20 fits this description, my NC10 is going on craigslist.
I wanted the Dell 12 to be that machine, but it has a glossy screen, bad battery, and the same size keyboard as the NC10 (which makes no sense given the extra width of the 12). -
-
I wouldn't mind 13" either. The extra inch makes it more comfortable to work on my lap. -

I didn't see the NC20 listed in Engadget's rundown of Samsung's CES show - did it not get shown after all?

Well many of you have already seen the nc20 on engadget so im not gonna bother showing it how does the Via chrome GPU stack up to intel's GMA? Any idea?
Also is there any confirmation if the 12.1" Display is LED? -

New NC20 BIOS (03MQ) posted today. However, there are no revision notes so there are no clues such as "Include Atom CPU support").

ok for those of us too lazy to download exactly what did that document show?

The NC20 drivers and software are now on the Samsung download site, which usually indicates that production is starting. There's a VIA graphics driver and Atheros wireless.
I find it interesting that the drivers and software are for XP. I thought the display resolution was too high to qualify for XP as a netbook.

By intel's definition this isnt a "netbook" though i always have felt that 12" was a perfect screen size for portable use.
Xp is good because it'll start up in a second and will be quicker overall. I do remember people were claiming that the netbook XP couldnt go past 1024 x 768 or something like that so i guess this would be a normal version. -
12" with 1200x800 screen sounds perfect. I think i'll definately be getting one of these

I thought this would be a perfect computer, but with such a bad battery life review, I can't consider this anymore.
