My question got overlooked the first time so I'll give it another go. What are the maximum output resolutions over the VGA and HDMI outputs? Can the Q210 do 720p and 1080p? Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it myself.

    See this page at nVidia.

That doesn't indicate the maximum resolution through the VGA port, but I expect it to be higher than most affordable displays.

Someone asked about the stickies and getting the residue off - a great tip that Ive used on many occasions where there stickiness or even stains ie tar on carpets is to use a tiny amount of WD40 on a cloth then clean off works every time

Thanks John for the reply. I checked that link to the nVidia page but the specification is really limited for the card and makes no mention of max output resolutions. Also that quote about it being able "connect to a full HD 1080p HDTV" doesn't mean that it can necessarily even do anything above 720p, it just means that it can connect through HDMI. Has anyone tried hooking the Q210 up to a TV and checking the max resolution? Thanks.

I have the AS04 model 9200m videocard... and via HDMI and VGA I can set the resolution to 1920x1080 without any problems. (my tv is a Samsung Full HD. and the OSD displays this resolution as well)

The only question I have.... the audiocard gives me the option for analog (headphone) and for digital output via the HDMI cable... but I can't get this to work.

    Does anybody tried this already?

Is there an option to enable digital out in the Realtek audio manager? I recall having this on another notebook.

Hi to all! Long time lurker, loong time PC user... but newbie to laptops!
Mr. Santa is coming soon... Here comes P210/Q210!

I can found P210 (AS02) at about 900 euros and Q210 (AS S2) at about 750 euros. Differences are:
    - 320GB vs 160GB
    - 4GB vs 3GB
    - Bluetooth vs Nothing (!)
    - Matte vs Gloss
    - XP Pro vs Vista Home P. (but I hope to receive Vista Business, not XP)

Prices are ok? They seem pretty cheap, and for ~150 euros more I'd pick the P210 (no Bluetooth is a big let down), do you agree?

They both sport a P7350 (not the P8400 :( ), a 9200GS (not the X4500 as some P210 owners -not sure if it is a con or a pro-), and a 90W AC adapter (not the 70W listed here :( ).

Do you know how long it will last with Wi-Fi (Intel 5100), medium brightness, and internet browsing?

Jolly question is: "will I regret to not have the fingerprint scanner"? I did never test it, but maybe it will be helpful with those 30+ usn/psw I have (?).

Which country are you in? (Google suggests Italy with those specs). Usually the P210's come with the Intel graphics but Samsung say that has nVidia graphics (but sometimes Samsung sales don't know the accurate specifications of what they are selling). The benefit of the nVidia GPU is better 3D graphics performance. otherwise it will use more power and cost you battery time. The P7350 is OK. You won't notice the difference in CPU speed unless you have CPU-intensive work which takes minutes or hours to run.

Broadly, I estimate the following light usage battery times for the P210 / Q210:

    P series CPU + Intel graphics = 6 hours
    T series CPU + Intel graphics = 5 hours
    P series CPU + nVidia graphics = 5 hours
    T series CPU + nVidia graphics = 4 hours.

Have got about 400 laptops (+about 1000 stationary computers) here at work that i maintains (onley HP bussnies models).

I had assumed you have seen this thread.

Taking your money and then saying "fraud" isn't fair. Can you phone them (to their land line number) via Skype. That way the waiting time won't bankrupt you.

Ok. I have had my Q210 since September now (after problems with Saveonsamsung, finally getting a refund and ordering from someone else- looks like other people are having these problems too now!). It has been all good.

But over the past couple weeks I have notice that it has been getting a lot hotter than during the first couple months of use. This is particularly obvious around the touchpad and the fan. It is obvious because I am used to this laptop running very cool. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be the case, and what I should do about it?

    Thanks

    Hi.

The Wi-fi card is under the touchpad on the Q210 , as i connect using lan when at home, always turn it off.

If you have to have it on, maybe you can reduce the output power in the device manger.

    Regards

    John.

Just hold the Fn button and press the F9 , then the third from the right led on the front of the Q210 will go out.

Good news that you've got your money. They may not have deliberately taken any money. This may be caused by exchange rate fluctuations. The £ has been dropping against European currencies during the past few weeks.

You may now find that the Kr / € cost at laptops Direct is therefore also reduced.

Ye did think about that and i did check with my bank and the exchange rate the day i did place my order at saveonsamsung it was 12.02kr/£ and yesterday it was 12.05kr/£.

    But now a Q310 is on it's way from www.laptopsdirect.co.uk :)

I got a Q210 with T5750, 320gb, 3gb (the Argos model), refurbished from Ebay. I am really quite pleased with it. Coming from a Celeron based netbook, it is obviously quite larger, but it runs cool, quiet and rather fast.

The first thing I did was set up a film library with XBMC. I was pleasantly surprised that my 720p mkv files were as smooth as glass on power saver mode!

My one niggle so far: after (probably) a couple of minutes of the touchpad/keyboard not being used, the screen automatically dulls to a low brightness level, regardless of what power management mode is being used.

This is annoying while watching media as I have to periodically hit a key on the keyboard to prevent the screen dulling. It only happens when the battery is being used.

I do not see anything obvious that can be changed in the Vista power management options, nor in the BIOS. Is there a simple solution to this, other than watching a film with the laptop plugged into the mains? I should say this is my first experience with Vista.

Look for the Samsung Battery Manager icon in the system tray. This has an option to dim the display backlight and is separate to the Windows power management option to turn the backlight off completely.

Change the timeout or deselect the auto-dimming.

I might have a go at undervolting once I've played about with the notebook a bit more.

    Hi,

My girlfriend would like to buy a Samsung Q210 laptop but she is confused by the different processor specs. I've done a quick seach but have been unable to find a clear comparision of the relative performance of the different Intel processors which are available in the Q210.

She's been looking at the NP-Q210-AS04UK with the T6400 processor on the Dabs website:
    http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=5DWB&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=q210&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0

Is this the best/fastest/latest version of the Q210 currently available in the UK?

    Thanks
    James

    Hi James,

this link should help you to compare processor speeds.

the dabs spec you linked to does not appear to be the fastest available - mine is a P8400 processor (albeit with 3GB RAM). as you can see from the notebookcheck link above, the 8400 is faster than the 6400. i bought mine from laptops direct which is irritatingly no longer listing the processor name.

hopefully someone else can anyone clarify the difference in processors?

The most powerful Q210 out is the AS02 model, closely followed by the AS04 model.
She will probably be happy with either one, assuming its for general laptop needs, ie. browsing, movies, music, etc.

The T6400 is a Penryn equivalent of a T5750 or T7250. it's most likely a good CPU where some of the cache is defective (and disabled). It will be fine for general purpose use and should be cheaper than a P8400. The speed difference is too small to be noticeable in normal use.

I saw talk of the 9-cell 7800mAh battery in here. Does anybody have more info on it? The name of it? The type? Where to get it? I'm having a hard time finding it out with google. So far I've come up with the BA43-00151A and the AA-PL2NC9B/E, but I'm not sure if those will actually fit/work in my q210.

    Hi

I've had my Q210 for a while now and I'm delighted with it. However, I feel that upgrading to a 7,200 rpm hard drive would give it a decent boost. Has anyone tried this yet? There's a panel on the underside of the laptop, so physically changing the drive looks like it would be simple enough, but I'm unsure as to what drives would be compatible.

Do I basically just need to make sure it's SATA, 2.5" etc? This is an example of what I'm looking for, though I haven't done much indepth research yet: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-203-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=896

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also liking the idea of the 9 cell battery...

Go to the Samsung UK support site, download the specifications and you will see:
Any 9.5mm thick 2.5" SATA will fit. Also consider the WD5000BEVT which is up among the 7200rpm HDDs in terms of transfer rates and is economical on power.

    Ah, thanks.

Yes, it says either the AA-P2NC6B (5200mAh) or the AA-PL2NC9B (7800mAh).

But now I'm wondering about the BA43-00149A and BA43-00150A. They are mentioned as genuine spareparts for the q210 on http://uk.eetnordic.com/guides/products.aspx?m=992195.

Are they the same thing? They're a lot cheaper than the AA-P2NC6B it seems...

And on eBay I found the BA43-00151A, which is 7800mAh... I wonder if that would work as well then... http://uk.eetnordic.com/product.aspx?id=BA43-00151A&path=Samsung_Battery doesn't list the q210 as compatible with that item, but it does list 2 other laptops, which it says ARE compatible with BA43-00150A, which it says IS compatible with q210...

hmmm, such a confusing world... :(

Edit: Okay, I think I understand now (after reading http://www.mk-elektronic.de/Herstel...ng/Notebooks/NP-Q210 Serie/NP-Q210-AS05DE.pdf and mailing for info to some shops):

Part numbers that can come with the laptop:
    AA-P2NC6B (6-cell)
    AA-PL2NC9B (9-cell)

Yep, I bought the BA43-00151A and I can now confirm that it works on the Q210. The battery is actually even labeled as AA-PL2NC9B. So it's all the same thing.

    BA43-00151A aka 3UR18650F-3-SDN-3 aka AA-PL2NC9B

It's sticks out like 1cm at the back of the q210. And it makes it a little heavier of course. Fine with me though.

I streamed a divx movie over wlan @ 100% brightness (full screen) and it went for at least 4.5 hours. Very pleased with it :)

Hi Folks, reading this thread has pushed me into buying the Q210 for it's portability/performance.

In your opinion is this deal from http://www.saveonsamsung.com/Samsung_Q210_492505.html good as my budget is £500 tops.

Any other comments or views would be most appreciated

    It`s a low spec Q210 , a 2.16ghz processor 35watt TDP, only 667mhz bus not 800mhz , and a Intel x4500 instead of the Nvidia 9200m GS.

I would look at the next version up , unless you are strapped for cash, but i suppose it depends what you want.

Thanks for the quick response Tinderbox. I don't do gaming but you've got me thinking now.

It might be worth spending a little more now as I expect not to have to upgrade for some time.

What would you recommend as a minimum spec and why?

    Thanks in advance.

I have had a look at other higher spec q210`s but there is not a lot to choose from in your price range.

The next version-up is around £650 and it is not a lot better than yours, I would have thought member "John Ratsey" might have had more of an idea.

But if you dont play games get the INTEL X4500 as you will better battery life than the NVIDIA 9200m GS.

I'll have a ferret around the net over the weekend and see what's available in each price bracket. The more I think about it the more I'm edging toward spending more for future proofing.

Any further comments on the matter from all would be most welcome.

    Cheers

The Q210 seems to have moved upmarket, at least in terms of pricing.

Also look at the P210, which doesn't have the glossy bits. Perhaps this model with P series CPU and Intel graphics. It should have very good battery time.

Unfortunately for me John I'm hooked on the Q210's aesthetics so it's simply a matter of balancing price vs spec.

What spec would you accept as a minimum?
