Not to be confused with the R510 series, but Samsung have also published an R560 User Manual.
This model looks more interesting: DDR3 RAM + the 9600M GS or 9600M GT GPUs. The display options are WXGA and WSXGA+ (but not WXGA+ which I consider a good compromise for 15.4"). Most of the layout is similar to the R510 series.
While the headline thickness is not significantly different to the R510 series, the R560 appears thinner if the back views of each notebook in the overviews are compared.

This one looks interesting indeed. I nearly went out to buy a Dell, but wanted a Samsung to replace my trusted P35... If it gets a LED screen I'm all set
-
have you a date for the french release ?

John -
ok , thanks

Notebook.de is listing the R560 (it's the second one on this page). Available within 3 days. 999 buys
John -
It's this R560 configuration that I want
-
I just hope they will offer them with higher resolution screens also. I hope they don't chase me towards Dell...

The specs in the R650 manual do mention 1680 x 1050, so maybe that will come. Or maybe it will come in the P560 which would be the business equivalent of the R560 and, since there is so far no hint of anything new in the X series, the replacement for the X65. Maybe I'm wrong. Time will tell.
It would be even better if there could be a 1440 x 900 option on the 14.1" and 15.4" Samsung notebooks.

Any word on when this laptop will be available in the US? There were some articles posted on the internet in May that Samsung was planning to aggressively pursue the laptop market in 2008 and that the US will be a new market for them.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I've seen nothing new so far to suggest that Samsung is about to start selling notebooks in the US. They probably want to first saturate places like Europe where, I suspect, the margins are better and get their production ramped up. It makes good marketing sense to build up awareness before making the products available.
John -
You're right about the resolution, 1440 or 1680, both would be quite nice. A business version would be great, I've loved those so far.
1280 is a nice resolution for a 13.3" book, but not for one sized like the 560. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The R560 is featured on the Samsung Hong Kong site. That model has the WSXGA+ resolution.
More Computers is listing R560-AS02
John -
I think it is a very interesting product. It will be available in Lithuania on 2008-08-08.
Specifications are brilliant

It's this configuration that I want
but 1125€ it's a little excessive for me
-
It says 3 hours of battery life. I wish it had a little more.
Most likely it will end up with even less in real world tests. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The R510, with the Intel X4500 graphics, can manage 4.5 hours. A dedicated GPU will tend to leak power although the smaller Q210 with the 9200M GPU managed 5 hours.

Hi !
John, still no release date for France ?
or news ? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The UK R560 is expected next week and the German version says in stock (bottom one here). Have you searched the French retailer sites for any clues?
John -
Wow. They're really cheap too. I just hope they release the version with the higher resolution screen.
-
Yes I have searched on many sites but anyone have a date or a release period.
If you have news for France don't hesitate
Tony -
Aww, why does the UK version only have the GS as opposed to the GT
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I think they target a price band and then choose a configuration that's suitable. One step down the GPU ladder does give a useful price saving and, in reality, that one step change a game from playable to unplayable. You also get less thermal problems.
It's like the Intel CPUs: The incremental pricing gets very big as you approach the top of the range, but the difference in performance is not noticeable in normal usage.
I was just looking at the R710 here. The top spec has the T9400 CPU and Blu-Ray but still the 9300M GS GPU. I would have left the CPU at the P8600 and put in a faster GPU. However, I'm not running Samsung UK.
John -
always nothing for France ?

Well fortunately for me I had low expectations for UK configured laptops (they're always either woefully underspec'ed compared to US equivalents or just stupidly overpriced). I was going to consider an Asus M50Sv which has a 9500M GS but this looks to a step better. Shame manufacturers still insist on placing the Left Fn key on the edge of the keyboard
[edit] Did you mean that "in reality, one step down will not change the game from playable to unplayable"? -
any date
samsung gave "august 2008" in june , since not a news ...
have you UK retailers' website please ? -

I have ordered this from saveonsamsung....they have assured me it will be with me tomorrow (Thursday 21st).
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Maybe SaveOnSamsung had one, and you bought it?
John -
Lets hope so!
Their mail server does not appear to be working, but I will be phoning them first thing to find out the status! -
Well, just spoke to them and yes...I will have a shiny new R560 tomorrow!
-
Oh, apparently saveonsamsung are not shipping from their warehouse, they are using someone else to ship. I guess thats why its states they do not have any!
-
Let us know how it turns out. I'm going abroad soon and would like a laptop to bring with me.
-
-
What is the quality of the samsung notebooks? I couldnt find any reviews or comments about it. Could you please tell about it more?
emissions?
Loudness of fan? -
The R560 is not with Samsung UK yet, Saveonsamsung have told me, mine is coming directly from Samsungs warehouse and will be with my Tuesday, Wednesday at the very latest!

I thought some of the Samsuing R5xx models had the 1680x1050 res screen ?.
I have been looking on saveonsamsung as I am in the UK etc. But can't find the samsung with the 1680x1050 screen? I thought the R560 had it?
Anyone know any websites that have it ? -
The UK versions at the moment do not have 1680x1050, the Asian models do have it(the Hong Kong site has it listed for example), as well as an 9600M GT.
-
What do you suggest me when compare R560 with Asus M51Sn? I have two weeks to make my decision...
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
R560 specs have been posted on the Samsung UK website.
Samsung have listed both the 9600M GS and 9600M GT GPUs and both WXGA and WSXGA+ displays.
John -
I wonder what spec I am going to get? lol
-

John -
Well it has arrived...only had a quick check here in the office, it came with the GS not GT card!
EDIT: Also just the WXGA not the WXGA+! -
That's a shame. Still, that's pretty fast delivery
I'd like to know more about the package contents. PSU size, any CDs, any accessories? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Thanks for the update. So the R560 is no longer a rumour.

There is some information available here: http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/showthread.php?t=515800. Or, if your German is as poor as mine: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.forumdeluxx.de%2Fforum%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D515800&sl=de&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8.
I have been searching for a new laptop for months. Yesterday I told the guy who order stuff for our department that I want an HP dv5, but today he told me that the supplier could not deliver it with the specs I want (in Belgium). Ok, here we go again... (Have tried to order 2 or 3 different brands/models since June, but none of them is available) But perhaps that was good news, because as far as I have read about the R560 Madril so far, it is superior to the dv5. The DDR3 system and GPU memories in combination with the higher clocks makes a difference. The 3DMark06 score is around 5700, instead of the 4400 of the HP dv5t. More info can be found by following the link above. -
[edit] gjkendall, if you can pry yourself away from your shiny new laptop (or perhaps post on it), in addition to my previous questions I'd also like to know if the keyboard has the Fn key on the far end. The German version appears to have Ctrl swapped around.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Samsung have put Ctrl in the corner on all their new range. People used to complain about having Fn in the corner but, strangely, people also like the Lenovo keyboards.
