Just got a hold of this today at Best Buy! Very sexy laptop much nicer than most out there. I love the screen so bright white and the laptop is 1" thick! I have the Asus G75 laptop that I just got done reviewing in here and I have to say the Samsung is much nicer. If the Nvidia 650m can Overclock and match the 660m I would pony up the extra $150 and get the Samsung. It also has Optimus for extra battery life which the Asus does not.

I will push this system to the limit and give ya guys a update soon :D

Man, I can't wait until mine arrives on Friday, I guess the only flaw so far with the laptop is the slow HDD speed, but that is an easy fix if you are willing to spend more money.

    No wobbly keyboard?
Could you change your desktop background, gives a better idea of the laptop's display.
And please post your ending settings once you've done overclocking the GPU :)

paul, been loving your posts on the Asus G75! So, you think this is better? What do you think about the build quality? Waiting to hear about heat - I'm sure it can't cool as well as the Asus but hopefully it will still be decent under load.

Backside you could almost remove the screens to help with airflow

    Remove the ribbon very carefully

Gonna need your help with the overclocking once you've sorted out the max you can push the GPU.

Never overclocked a GPU before sadly...

The motherboard layout looks similar to the Z5A... In fact the chassis is an adapted Z5A chassis.

I heard that the palmrest is made of metal instead of plastic like the smaller models, is that true? Also, how is the screen? Is it any better then the older models except the higher resolution?

Thanks alot for the pictures and review! :)

The whole laptop is made of metal except for the bottom of the laptop, which is plastic. He said in his video, that the screen looks pretty nice, better than the Asus G75.

I'm so sad...I have the 15.6" model but I wish I had the full HD screen and the nVidia GT 650M for playing Battlefield 3. Sucks that the 15 inch model gets only a Radeon card with crappy graphics switching while the 17 inch gets a super powerful card with Optimus as well...

    paulnelson88,

Can you please run following tests with stock CPU/GPU and latest nvidia driver.
    1. HWbot.org Heaven test with Xtreme settings.
Overclocking, overclocking, and much more! Like overclocking.
    2. 3DM11 P score
    3. 3DM Vantage P score

I will have My Asus with DDR3 version of 650M soon and then i run same tests.
So finally we can judge the difference between DDR3 and DDR5 versions of this Kepler.

This looks like the 17 inch version. On Samsung canada's website you can see that the 15 inch version has a 640M with GDDR5. Although I hope they release a 15 inch version with the 650M...

This is 15 inches & it has 650M. You can see it in video. Maybe 15" model on Samsung Canada has lower version too like 6490M & 6750M in Sandy Series.

I am happy that it has replacement battery

    Just got the g75 today!
I don't plan on using the computer much for gaming, but more for CAD modeling (solidworks) and photoshop.

I've never had a matte screen before, but on some white web pages, I see a lot of grainyness. Does the samsung have this?

Now that I read your post about the samsung having a better screen it makes me consider ordering one (bestbuy) since there were none in stock.
I also got the asus from bestbuy, so there shouldn't be an issue with returning it.

I know it might be hard, but is there a way to post a comparison of screen quality? Also, have you run any 3d vantage numbers on the samsung? What is the rated battery life with the optimus?

    Thanks!

Still working atm on a jobsite but the screen on the Asus G75 has a odd glow to it with the white background, gaming wise you can't see it. The Samsung 1080 screen is nicer than a Mac book pro if you ask me.

Looks like the 650m gets right under about 5-7% within the 660m it got warm but not hot they did a great job on the cooling for 1" thick. The sound on the Samsung is much better and so is the wifi. Asus slightly better graphics and a extra bay for a hdd. I think the few extra bucks is worth the Samsung. I can see myself taking the Samsung everywhere on the go. The Asus would sit on my desk. Really if it sat on a desk why not build a killer gaming system for that prices

Also how is the speaker quality/volume compared to the G75?

best buy stores in my area show them in stock. I called a couple to see if they have display models - one claims they do. i plan on stopping by after work, but just a heads up that they maybe available in stores to test out.

also, best buy has a 30 day return policy if you want to go that route.

Speakers sound much nicer on the Samsung. Fan sound is a little bit louder on the Samsung not by much. Asus did a great job on there cooling.

I've returned 4 HP laptops and aa tablet before they flagged me for no returns so I just use my wife's driver license number. That's how they track it. Hp has nice specs but really bad screens drove me nuts.

All the ones near me require a ship to store.

When I called asking about a display model, they were insistent that it was a deleted item and they will never be getting them... even with me explaining that its new and that I have the ability to ship to store.

I'm fine to explore all 30 days, but I just don't want to start installing stuff to then have to wipe it all.

i'd recommend giving the SKU ID when you call to avoid confusion. no offense to the best buy folks but they aren't always the most knowledgeable.
