Hey that's why its called a clickpad. The whole pad is a left click. Then, at the bottom part, there is a horizontal band (the area of which you can configure) which is left click on the left half and right click on the right half. How is this retarded?

I actually happen to like the tap-to-click feature. And tap-and-move to drag, which I also lock (which means the drag ends when I tap again). It makes for exciting times. And then, you can configure 3 finger tap for middle button, which works perfect under Linux for pasting the text which is selected using tap-and-move. GUI awesomeness!

Practice the clickpad features and u will become multi-touch master. It will boost your text editing productivity like crazy!

Considering buying this beautiful machine, i have a couple of questions:

    - Is that 8gb cache removeable? Is it a small m-SATA SSD?`

    - If not when happens to it, when i replace the HDD with a SSD?

Already answered earlier ;) The cache is soldered onto mobo, so not removable. You can still replace the HDD with an SSD and use the express cache (not that it would do much) or turn it off with samsung software.

Temps after 1hr of diablo3 gaming. Diablo 3 doesn't seem very CPU demanding, but is more GPU demanding than expected. I had expected solid 60fps+ with this laptop, but 35-55fps depending on situation is all I get - with GPU overclocked to be faster than an GTX660M (oc to 970MHz core/1250MHz memory). Stock it's 5-10fps lower.

Oh okay, so there's actually something that physically pushes down and goes 'click', it's just underneath the pad? It's not just a section of touchpad that you tap that is 'recognized' by the software as being a click?

Yes you physically press it down and you will hear a "click" noise.

Been using this machine for about a week now. I think it is the perfect laptop for the business pro who needs to game on trips. Scrolling spreadsheets with multitouch feels great, and the numpad is fantastic. You have to knock a few settings back on a few games, but totally worth it for that thin profile.

I just signed up to say thanks all for helping me decide.

Went to BB to check it out. Design is really nice and it was as heavy as I thought it would be. Although screen appeared a bit dull in comparison to my Envy Radiance screen. Still curious if anyone tried Battlefield 3 on it.

I had the envy for 21 days. I can tell you I hated the glossy screen. All I saw in it was myself and things behind me. It didn't matter how bright and radiant the screen was, seeing myself and everything behind me was such a major headache.

I love the matte screen on this laptop. Its bright and has lovely colors and I can actually use it to do some work on the laptop without getting distracted with what's behind me. Of course, I can use it on my patio outside. Its 10-20 times better than the envy screen.... :D For me.

Its about a pound lighter than the ENvy 17. And that makes a huge difference between it being portable-enough and really portable.

    Paul,
I'm going to put a 830 SSD in as well, but I was thinking of taking the 1TB drive and putting it into sometype of external enclousure that I can connect with USB for use as a backup drive. What do you think? Do you know of any products out there that can take the 1TB drive they ship in the laptop and convert it for use as a external drive? Thanks!

    Try this one:

    Newegg.com - Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5” & 3.5” USB 2.0 & eSATA

There is a variant of this which doesn't have eSata, only USB. Use that one if you don't have need for eSata (like your desktop has or does not have a eSata connection).

Anyone using the latest nVidia drivers and modded inf?
Mind sharing / linking the .inf file.

Seems to give a nice boost overall, any experience how it affects the 650M?

Any external 2.5" SATA HDD enclosure will do. Here's one with a USB 3.0 interface which is significantly faster than the cheaper USB 2.0 enclosures.

Ok, I've got another question. I had a samsung rc512-s02 from bb and after I removed all the crap samsung software it ran really slooooow! And, the trackpad stopped working at times. Aftward I was told never remove the samsung software. How about this samsung? Is there lots of bloatware? Is it ok to remove it? Thanks!

I second that, go for USB 3.0 even though the Samsung HDD is 5400 RPM you will still get better performance. I put mine in one of these FD2830-1 (don't know if it's available where you are) and I get around 95-100 MB/sec write/read which I think is good.

Reinstall Windows for best performance. And install two pieces of Samsung software: Easy Settings (manages keys like Fn and volume up/down, brightness etc.) and Software Manager (allows to upgrade drivers etc.). Use the DVD provided for reinstall.

It's a beta driver so not WHQL approved...yet.
Can get it from Guru3D, but I don't know where to get the .inf file
I don't have the laptop so I don't know, I'm just trying to gather everything I need before I receive the laptop next week.

Anyone having issues with the display port? I can not get mine to output any video. I can not even get the computer to show the monitor. I have tried different displays using a display port to dvi cable and a display port dongle. Nothing seems to work.

I have tried the stock drivers and also the new 301.40 drivers.

I've read through this whole thread a few times and haven't seen this posted. What are the CPU temps with it just at idle? I typically leave my laptop running almost 24/7, downloading files, media sharing etc. so I'm interested to know how hot it gets while basically just sitting.

Ah ok. I was worried that Samsung was one of those manufacturers that blocks you from installing drivers directly from the video card manufacturer.

Hi devsk, thanks for the info, wish I knew that back when i had my rc512! I do have one more question, on the 15.6:" series 7 there was a sharp lip at the front edge of the wrist rest and lots of people complained. How is the 17.3" series 7? Thanks!

For all driver woes and updates, I found a program called DriverMax. It basically is a centralized hub to scan for updates, download and install.
    DriverMax - CNET Download.com

Once you get past all the installation junk (use a custom install and don't install the toolbars, etc), the program itself is amazing. Freeware you are only allowed two downloads a day, but you can use the information and updated driver version numbers to find them yourself on the internet.

My laptop cooler (cooler master u3) came in yesterday and I have been using it since. Temperature only drop a couple degrees, I think vents are a little too small for the laptop cooler to work effectively. If you consider buying a laptop cooler, I wouldn't buy one, replacing the thermal paste would have a better effect. The only good thing about the laptop cooler is the slope that it gives the laptop, makes it a lot more comfortable to use.

    Here's a non-hardware question...

If I wanted to hook-up this laptop up to TWO televisions, what would be the best way?

    Obviously, HDMI > HDMI

But what about the second connection?

    VGA > HDMI
    OR
Mini Display Port > (Mini Display Port / HDMI Dongle) > HDMI

If you don't mind, what are your idling CPU temps? And do you notice the keyboard warmth when just doing standard browsing, word processing etc? What are your ambient temps as well?

Has anyone tried hooking up 2 TV's to the laptop though, and does it work?

Idle is in the 40s for the cores and GPU. There is warmth on the keyboard when I watch youtube videos and the max the temps ever go is around 76 degrees Celsius when gaming. And by "ambient temps", do you mean my room temperature? it is around 76 degrees Fahrenheit.

I received my cables to hook up via hdmi to dvi and mini displayport to dvi and I can not get the mini displayport to function. It will not even detect in the monitor settings. I have tried different monitors and two different cables (mini displayport to dvi and mini displayport to hdmi/dvi/displayport). I have also tried the latest nvidia drivers as well. I am trying to see if anyone else con confirm that their display port is working correctly. So as of right now for me, it looks like that having multiple monitors will not work until the mini displayport will work.

Well it looks like the mini displayport does work (only displayport to displayport). It looks like the displayport to dvi cables I received from monoprice are faulty. When having both the hdmi cable and the mini displayport connected to the laptop. The computer sees both connections, but it looks like only one of them can be used as I can not activate the displayport connection when the hdmi connection is connected and displaying an image. Windows will not let me extend the display or mirror the display for the displayport when the hdmi is active. I hope both the hdmi and mini displayport are not shared! Can anyone else test this out?
