I'm not confident that you will be OK. You probably need to disable UEFI in the BIOS and perhaps change some other settings. Some people have succeeded but some have ended up with computers which won't boot, even if they replace the original HDD.

uefi os
cms os
uefi and cms os
is that what i need to disable uefi? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I don't have first-hand experience of UEFI but people have also mentioned the need to disable SecureBoot. I suggest you use Google to search this forum for words such as UEFI with the prefix "site:http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung".
John -
i did it last nigt, intel ssd work great at this moment,i just disable secure boot and fast bios, before that i update bios like you said,f10 didnt worked i mean it shows menu but it wont boot from dvd or usb,but i went again into bios and change from uefi to cmos os and i get boot options right away it ask me press any key to boot from cd dvd i pressed but instalation start from usb drive idk why, also after f10 didnt work i change boot order cddvd, usb drive and then goes os manager i think.openng back cover is really hard my nails are now....no comment just one weird note one screw from back cover is exta i dont know how but silver screw is on the place where black screw should be here is pic is this screw from the hard drive bracket there are on the same side??? so this side is when i flip laptop and right side

tpm driver -

1. Good news that you have the SSD running.
2. Try running SW Update (the successor to Easy Software Manager). There's a download link on this page (it's the same software although that page is for the X4C).
John -
i found it,did you check my pic for the screw? is it possible that i insert wrong screw which fits laptop?
-
guys has anyone know how i can hve control over automatic screen brightness and backlight keyboard? i wabt manuely to control that not automatic thanks
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I'm sure that should be a black screw in that hole (assuming it is like my Series 9) so where did you put a balck screw where the silver one belongs? Somewhere inside?
They will be very similar. You can check the hardware specs of the two models to see if that will affect the choice of drivers, but I doubt if there is any difference.
John -
some drivers work from so1us some not,i think i have use the silver screw from my last hdd caddy from hp envy 17 probably i just mess up screw but they are same so it ok,how i can manuely control aumatic brightness and backlit keyboard i want to enable/disable when i want -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Have you installed the Samsung Settings software? That includes controls in the program and also enables the Fn key controls.
John -
Yes but i have only 3 options insted 6-7 submenus like from original hdd and i cant control light, settings which offer app you tell me sw update offer me uncompatibile settings app for that so i start using from series 9 you send me
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Someone else was reporting that they only had a limited set of options provided by settings. I don't know how the package checks the installed hardware and software to decide what options to offer.
John -
But automatic brightness and keyboard backlight work and I didn't install any software for that maybe was installed using windows 8 update some how,ok serious question now, since I'm going back to europe soon and my warranty wil not be valid there, can I somehow delete all partition and wipe 1tb old hard drive and just install it in optical drive bay without doing complicated disk part thing someone explained here on the forum I will not have any boot problem with wiped simple basic hdd drive?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
1. Samsung notebooks have international warranty coverage.
2. I would not wipe the 1TB HDD. As a minimum keep the recovery partition so that you can put the HDD into the primary bay and reload the factory version of Windows. See here for caddies for mounting the HDD into the optical bay.
John -
If I leave recovery partition only can I just insert 1tb drive to optical and boot win 8 normaly from ssd without any modifications and troubles?
i really dont want to face this process http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/697841-guide-how-install-windows-7-8-via-usb-np700z.html
after i insert untouched 1tb hard drive -
1. Install from DVD to SSD before you put the 1TB HDD into the ODD bay. That way you avoid the hassles of USB installation that you refer to.
2. After Windows is installed on your SSD and everything is running smoothly, put the HDD in the optical bay as described by John and many others on this forum.
3. Leave the Recovery partition alone on the HDD, as John says. You probably won't be able to boot it or access it as long as it is in the ODD bay, but if you ever need to restore the PC to factory state (either for warranty service or because you want to sell it) you will be glad you kept it.
4. After Windows installation, install Chipset and WiFi drivers, then use Samsung's SW Update immediately thereafter for everything else. That should ensure installation of necessary drivers and utilities, and in the correct order. In SW Update, you can uncheck the bloat items you don't want.
These are general guidelines. I am afraid I cannot help you specifically with your model, with hardware replacement questions or with Win8. -
Thanks for your reply,I allready have active ssd running in laptop and win 8 is runnung on ssd allready I was asking what what will happen if I now place untoched 1tb drive with all factory setting and one more windows 8 into odd bay will I have boot problems?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Once you have got Windows running on the SSD you should be able to put the HDD in the bay without deleting anything. The BIOS will boot Windows from the SSD as the default even if the HDD is still bootable but you would have the option to press F10 at the BIOS screen and boot from the HDD instead.
John -
Ok so I don't need to change boot order, because my boot order is now cddvd, usb drive and os manager I just afraid that os manager will make problems with a 2 bootable drives, so I don't need to press f10 in order to boot from ssd or I need to press f10 in order to choose from which drive
-
Understood. I was trying to list the general steps.
You shouldn't get boot problems. As John says, your pc will boot by default from the SSD now. You can press F10 (or Esc depending on your model) to select a different boot drive - including another OS on that HDD. You just won't be able to F4 boot Recovery. -
Got it now

Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the tracking surface where the buttons exist on the trackpad ? I've always kept my right hand/fingers on the right click button when navigating with the touchpad to be able to quickly right click on links / files / windows / etc... but it causes the trackpad to stop tracking properly.
-
Im not 100% certain what you mean here as almost the entire trackpad is a button. Have you installed the drivers and software for the touchpad? you can get it off the samsung support website or by downloading the Samsung Easy Software manager, and it provides you with a few more features to customise how the trackpad works.
A work around for your issue may be to set your trackpad to right click when you do a two finger tap on an object. -
i just found in intel wireless adapter settings for n6235 options
802.11n channel width for band 2.4ghz value 20mhz only
802.11n channel width for band 5.2ghz value is auto
802.11n mode
can we speed up adaper to work faster if we change something here or no? -
hi does my laptop support intel wi di? processor is not supported according to this page Intel® Wireless Display — System requirements for the Intel® Wireless Display my cpu is 3rd gen intel i7 3635qm and my model number is NP700Z7C-S01UB NOT US
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
See the recommended settings in this thread.
Intel's CPU info says the CPU supports Wireless Display which confirms the page you linked to which says " All 3rd generation Core mobile processors". You also need a compatible Intel WiFi card. Getting WiDi to work properly can be a challenge as illustrated by this thread.
John -
intel centrino 6235 is compatible?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
It is according to the page you linked to with the WiDi hardware requirements.

guys can i charge battery to 90-95 procents and then enable it to stop charging when it reach 90-95 procent level?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
You can do it manually by turning off Battery Life Extender in (Easy) Settings, let the battery charge to the required level and then switching Battery Life Extender back on. That's something I do before travelling when I want more than 80% charge but don't want the wear associated with the full top-up to 100%.

I may be a killjoy, but in my opinion the $1150 HP ENVY DV7-7212nr Windows 8 laptop overall offers a better deal than the Samsung being discussed. The HP has about all the features that the Samsung does, such as the same Intel and Samsung graphics and lighted keyboard (not auto), PLUS blu-ray, user replaceable battery, fingerprint log in reader, 750GB 7200 RPM hard drive with 32GB SSD, and separate jacks for audio and mic. The hard drive can be replaced without taking off the entire bottom. The disks are push in tray loaded, rather than slot loaded. Power supply is 120W.
The only real downsides from what I can tell is that the HP is 3/8" thicker and somewhat heavier with a battery that projects out somewhat from the bottom. If that is objectionable, it can be replaced with a shorter life battery that does not. The greater thickness, though, allows for somewhat greater venting that goes out the side. Unlike the Samsung, the HP does not have duel band wireless, so no 5 mHz. If it wasn't for those downsides the HP would have been even more impressive for its price. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
40% thicker is significant to many people. Samsung have to overcome substantial technical challenges to get the functionality into the thinner package and that does reflect on the price.
John -
Does the trackpad on anyone else's laptop seem a little bit loose where it will make a creaking sound if I push down on it a little bit on the right side? (Not pushing down enough to trigger the right click, but just like touching it or going over an area with your finger.)
-
The Samsung costs $899.
Just as good as the HP, and thinner, and better body - entire laptop is a heatsink to some extent.
More importantly: longer practical game life thanks to 1600x900 native resolution (just fine for screen size)
The HP will grind at native resolution a year or two before the Samsung will, especially if you put a nice OC on the Samsung.
Samsung's better, hands down. -
@csargemg: I thought all Z7C models had 1920x1080 panels. Which model are you referring to?
1600x900 is perfect on my 14" Z3A, and personally I would never buy a 17" (or even a 15.6") with lower resolution than 1920x1080. But then, gaming is not a priority for me. I saw your argument for lower native res in the Z5C thread, makes sense. -
Oops, never mind.
-
$899 for the Samsung?!! Then why is Best Buy selling it a penny short of $1400? And Amazon for $1347? But really the Samsung wins hands down over the $1149 HP only if its 40% less thickness counts as a top priority for someone in the market for a 17.3" laptop. Otherwise, the two laptops are fairly alike. By the way, the native resolution on both laptops is 1920x1080.
-
I'm guessing csarge accidentally posted in this thread, when he thought he was in the Z5C thread.

Is anyone else still having USB 3.0 speed issues with Windows 8? I have 3 external usb 3.0 HDD's that when I use with my desktop run at USB 3.0 speeds, but on my Series 7 chronos with Win8, they are stuck at 2.0 speeds which really sucks. I have Windows 8, all the newest updates, and am running a Samsung 830 series SSD along with a WD Scorpio Black in the disk drive bay.

First, are you plugging in to a port with a blue tab? (Blue = USB 3.0).
Second, with a drive plugged in, check the drive policies. Try using Best Performance and not Quick Removal (although the latter works fine for me).
Third, if your USB 3.0 Host controller is Renesas, what is the firmware version (on the advanced tab in the properties in Device Manager). Mine is 2017.
John -
Mine says eXtensible host controller USB 3.0
Isn't Renesas is the old one? -
USB 3.0 did not work for me on Windows 8. That and the sharp corners made me hate windows 8. So now I'm happily back to Win7.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Thanks. The Renesas is in my X4C and is a separate chip. Google reveals that the eXtensible host controller is the Intel one for which the latest driver download are here. It's only a month old so it won't have got into the Samsung system. Give it a try. Intel could well still be at the bug-fixing stage.

I just got this very laptop. Love it installed a Samsung 840 ssd and but win 7 on it. Very happy

Thanks John, for that link.
