If Samsung ignores refreshing the 15 inch version of Series 9, it will be really disappointing and after a long wait, I don't know where I should go.![]()

Does any one know about future releases or info about Ativ Book 9 Plus 15 inch screen?

@andex: I don't personally know anything that's not already out there. But what you're asking is the subject of extensive discussion in various threads during the day. I suggest you check the following threads:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/722485-samsung-event-london-today.html
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/703622-next-samsung-series-9-release.html
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/722548-samsung-ativ-book-9-plus-haswell-new.html
If you want, I can move your post to one of these threads (and I would close this thread in that case). Otherwise, if you don't get a response here, you can re-post your question in another thread after 24 hours. -
I feel the absence of 15 inch screen is a big deal and we need to have a separate thread so that Samsung can easily see it. Don't you think so?

Absence of 15 inch screen is a big deal and we need to have a separate thread.
I registered just for the sake of telling you guys, and Samsung as well, that I too want a 15" matte. And I won't buy anything else. As one might say: "Samsung - shut up and take my money" -
Yeah, I'm complaining too, but maybe we must admit that non-touch laptops are not wanted for the general population. Since Windows 8, all stores I'n my country promotes the glossy touch screens, there are very few matte screens left. Some have Samsung Series 7 Ultra, which is the best alternative for me, but I would prefer a 15".
-
I looked at my distributor: All 900X4 models are out-dated. Samsung does not produce the 15" Series 9 any longer.
They will be sold unti they are out of stock - Thats It. - If you need one, buy one NOW with the bad TN-Panel, there won't be a new one with FHD and IPS in the next time. -
I since see that you posted links to this thread and got some activity here, and that's what counts. I DO think we'll now have the same discussion in four threads (instead of three), but I am not big on telling people where they can and cannot post -- as long as they stay within the forum rules about cross posting. -

We have to hope that Samsung are quietly developing a non-glossy non-touch improved 15", perhaps with a stronger focus on the needs of business users.
There's no indication that anyone in Samsung reads this forum otherwise we would have seen a change from the proprietary Samsung VGA port / micro HDMI to a mini DisplayPort in the new models. There's something wrong when the internal resolution exceeds the external display capabilities.

I too want the Samsung 15" series 9 Haswell with a 1080p matte (non-touch) screen and a 512 GB SSD - ideally with a choice between WIndows 7 and WIndows 8.
If Samsung can upgrade the existing Series 9 15" with a Haswell CPU and a better display it will have a winner! -
What other options are there for 15" FHD matte (none-touch). Ultrabook-ish mashine? -

If Samsung was going to produce and sell a 15" model, it would be on full display yesterday. Announcing the discontinuation isn't normally done so no news is bad news.
At least that is my opinion.
I don't think a 15" will materialize. If they are planning it, it would have made sense to talk about it yesterday considering all the press they had around the event. -
It's all purely speculation at this point.
My gut feeling is the press launch was centred around new and innovative products. Of which a 15" HD Laptop would not be one of them. -
On the other hand it's maybe still early to make a conclusion. The Series 7 hasn't got a haswell refresh yet as well. I doubt they will be discontinued. -
I'm also hoping for a 15" version of the ATIV Book 9 Plus. I could go with either glossy or matte, but prefer matte.
-
I feel better as I am not the only one worried. In my view, they might have decided to discontinue it. I think it is very easy to improve NP900X4D with wifi fixes and IPS or PLS screen with the same or HD resolution but they preferred to go big on the small 13 inch screen two times one with NP900X3E and again yesterday on Ativ book 9 plus. So I guess, the have decided to discontinue it.

As someone said (if the following characteristics are met) : "Samsung, take my money"
1) 15" screen, glossy or matte (but matte would be best --> touchscreen = useless)
2) haswell chip
3) weight < 1.6 kg -
-
- 8 GB RAM
- 128 GB SSD
- i7 haswell
Let's hope samsung reconsider and act as microsoft did with the xbox one taking the users feedback. -

The Thinkpad X1 Carbon is nearer to being an alternative to the 15" Series 9. However, the display is a size smaller. Products such as the Thinkpad 431s fall in the same category.
AFAIK, Samsung's 15.0" panel is unique and their claim that it is a 15" screen in a 14" notebook is just about true. The 15" Macbook Retina is a similar size of display but in a significantly heavier notebook and all the 15.6" notebooks are significantly bigger and heavier.
We just have to hope that Samsung are investing in a better quality 15.0" display and will take advantage of this unique product that fits between the 14" and 15.6" sizes.

John, Thank you for the info.

Anyone find info about 900x4c successor??
I read in other topic that someone finds name of model Samsung ativ 9 lite, maybe someone find next model 900x4c??
I would like to see the same notebook, but with new processor (haswell), but I can't find any info about it, even in Poland is hard to buy current version 900x4c-a03pl -
-
So given that there is likely no 15" series 9... what are people leaning towards?
I'm going between the Asus 15" Zenbook and the Lenovo X1 Carbon. But I can't decide.
The Zenbook is
* better graphics
* larger screen
* memory a little more upgradable (I need as much as I can get as a developer)
* heavier at 4.5lbs
The Carbon is:
* light
* good keyboard
* crappy screendoor effect on screen
The real thing holding me back from the Zenbook is that it has the same Intel wifi chip as the Samsung, and I just returned a Series 9 due to the wifi not working well.
Anyone have any thoughts? -

The current options are either (i) grab one of the available 15" S9s - the display is a good TN panel but not up the the IPS / PLS standard; or (ii) wait to see what both Samsung and others have to offer with the Haswell platform.
I'm planning to upgrade my X4C with the 480 GB Crucial mSATA SSD once they are available. I've toyed with the possibility of swapping the mainboard to get a CPU upgrade from the 3315U to the 3517U. However, I might not notice the ~20% increase in speed. I briefly considered the Ativ Book 8 with quad core CPU but then remembered that there's not only the extra weight of the computer but also the much bigger PSU (90W instead of 40W).

1, they have silently discontinued it
2. they have some major bug, difficulty in improving the display, maintaining the battery life, etc. -
Figured I would echo the sentiments on the off chance someone from Samsung is reading. I too have been hoping for an upgraded 15" Series 9 with matte panel (touch/non touch doesn't matter to me though), display port instead of VGA, wifi card fixes, and the other improvements seen with the new 13" model.
-
4. they want to clear out ivy stock/sell as many high-markup plus models as possible first
It's early yet, if we haven't heard anything by back to school, then it's probably dead. -

We just have to wait, perhaps for several months, and see if anything happens.

The bad thing is that there is no really other "ultrabook" with 15' screen, i mean there is a zenbook or something but series 9 was kinda a good compromise between performance, size, weight and price. What i didn`t like was that there wasn`t any 8gb ram versions of it.

Thanks for clarifications, i always wanted to buy one but i said that i should wait for haswell cpu-s because of the battery life and maybe they will add an 1080p to the 15' version, i really hope they won`t abandon the 15'
13.3 is just a bit to little for me.
-
What about this Vizio Ultrabook?
VIZIO 15.6
- 8gb ram
- intel core i7
- 1080p 15.6 inch screen
- 256gb ssd
And probably they will get the haswell upgrade soon. Any thoughts? -
-
I have 1 new questions and 1 information for you.
1. Could you tell what is diffrent in x4c and x4d? Because I can't find 4xd version with i7 256GB SSD and 8GB, in Poland are only x4c. X4d are available, but only with i5.
2. I got information that 15" version with haswell will be available on August (the information was from Poland store, they wrote to Samsung and Samsung wrote it). -

If the 15" is coming in a few weeks with a Haswell chipset, I would certainly wait and see what the specs are before purchasing anything else. -
- X4C has aluminum finish and X4D has magnesium finish. As a result there is a weight difference. X4C is 3.6 Ib and x4D is 3.5Ibs.
- As mentioned by Thor, there is color difference. X4D is silver color and X4C is mineral ash.
- X4C has no TPM security, X4D has TPM security.
Other wise, there is no other difference but the processor, RAM and SSD configuration could differ from country to country.
2. This is the kind of news that I was looking for. Would you elaborate on the news further. -
