Samsung recently released the NP550P5C-T01US here in the States, and while it has some great specs already (JBL speakers, i7-3610QM, 5.51lbs, 8GB RAM), the 1366x768 resolution on a 15.6" screen and lackluster GT 630M are dealbreakers for many (including myself).
After researching around for a while regarding the machine, I found that there are two models that come with a 1600x900 screen, as well as a 2GB GT 650M (albeit, GDDR3) and a blu-ray drive. Unfortunately, their codes are S01HK and S03AU, which means they're only available in, you guessed it, Hong Kong and Australia. Here's the NP550P5C-S01HK Info Page on Samsung Hong Kong.
Does anyone have any information regarding upcoming versions of the NP550P5C in the US? It seems to have great potential, if based only on versions available in other countries, so I'm hoping maybe there's some info out there I've missed.
Also, if anyone in Hong Kong or Australia has either of those models (NP550P5C-S01HK or -S03AU), what are your impressions of the machine?

I am using one right now.
I have the NP550P5C-S02AU upgraded to 16GB RAM.
I have been using it for a little over a week now and it is an awesome machine.
I am not much into gaming any more, the only game i have on here atm is SWTOR and i can run that in all its glory The WiDi is also a nice touch and very under rated.
If you are after an Aussie spec version, let me know, this is my site Samsung NP550P5C | Total Innovative Technologies and I can have it shipped for you. -
i also like this laptop... im getting in thr middle east for just above 1000k... i like the design .. but im cocerned about dust collection in speakers , build quality , colors on the screen.. and all in all i have a seconf preference the asus n56vz....

Thanks for the response. Can you post a photo of the Aussie keyboard? I've been trying for ages to find a clear-cut comparison with the US keyboard so I can identify the differences between them.

Not sure about protocol, but bump.
Also, anyone out there have the S01HK version? -
I'm planning to buy 550p2c in HK(cos I live there)
just play and test in the shop before, the speaker is good enough for a notebook. anyone know which memory(ram) is good for install (16GB)? -
This piece of machine is real good. I have many users down here in INDIA using same laptop its S01IN / S02IN here i5 nd i7 with 1600*900 screen 300nit brightness. Its being rated grt. Samsung providing GT650M 2 GB card with this lil monster...also it is anti glare..matte screen. Overall Value for money. Grt machine to have...ohh i forgot...it has JBL inbuilt speaker with sub-woofer fit in front of keyboard. It sounds grt too.
The only concerned matter ryt nmw is few user have experienced FPS drop while gaming whn it reaches 86-87C which is a lil matter of concern. Hwevr frame drop is not prolonged its matter of a minute. But it is ot widely supported drawback. it seems GT650M cards r experiencing prblm even in othr latop its only due to heating or beta version of drivers. which I am trying to find out frm morining. Iam too planning to get this machine by this weekend -
See, and this is exactly why I'm hoping this machine comes to the US, especially if it keeps the blu-ray drive (although, that won't make a huge difference with the 1600x900 panel).
I've also heard complaints about gaming getting throttled using the GT 650M, both on other Samsung models and on models from other manufacturers, which leads me to believe it's more a factory safety setting on the card than an issue with the computer in particular. Even though I'm probably never going to play games that would bump the core up past 85C anyway, it's still a bit of a concern, although if it's happening everywhere, there's not much that can be done.
Let me know if you do decide to buy it; I'd love to see some user pictures of the machine, especially of the keyboard and screen. -
I'm not too familiar with the memory interface of the machine, but I think you should be okay with any DDR3 1600 (PC12800) sticks of memory. I will say, on the new Ivy Bridge 7 Series machines, the max memory is 8GB, so I'd double check that first before going ahead and buying 16GB of memory.

Apparently the new drivers released by Samsung have resolved this throttling issue for some users. Take a look over at:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/673502-anyone-here-have-np550p7c-17-a-6.html#post8700343
Others have had motherboards replaced, which have also resolved the issue. -
I am buying this weekend
Thanks for info...I m checking it ryt now...however there is a thread to GT650M but they r not pying any heed to the problem xcpet compiting eachothr animatedly for OVERCLOCKING
me and few more hv already posted our queries dwn there...but it seems as if we dont exist

So it supports 16GB RAM? That's nice.
Can you please answer one question though? Does it have another bay for SSD drive or you replaced your 1TB HDD with SSD?
Thanks. -
JB HiFi has this laptop on sale at the moment for $1090.55 no blu-ray though.
-
^Wow! Aussie version has Full HD? That's sweet.
Indian 550P5C-S02IN has only 1600x900. :\ But has 8GB of RAM though, I see yours has 6GB? Anyway, it can always be upgraded. -
I'd just replace the 1tb hdd w ssd
but there is a problem that i cant get a recovery zone when i install ssd.
The recovery dvd is just install win7
you need another dvd for driver and software -
You can get all the software/drivers for the Samsung Support for NP550P5C from this link.
