It has two mini pci-e slots, one hard to get too under the motherboard that has the wifi card in it, a one just under the back cover and easy to get too.

I bought an Broadcom Media Accelerator card, so i can play HD and FHD video`s as the Intel 950 gpu cannot play anything.

So i installed the Broadcom MA card, and nothing was detected, I checked the bios nothing, So i removed the motherboard and put the Broadcom MA in place of the wifi card and now it works great, but i need a wifi card.

So i tried the wifi card in the mini pci-e slot and still nothing.

I have seen photo`s of people putting wimax mini pci-e cards in the slot and nobody mentions any problem, but the Q1 is so old i cannot find any help.

So does it look like the mini pci-e slot has been disabled somehow?

    Thanks

    John.

Would've guessed the non-working slot to use mSATA interface, but the wifi card rules that out; at minimum it's mSATA+PCI-e. So ... yes; disabled or doa. Latest bios and drivers? Might also want to check for power using a multimeter.

There is supposedly a newer bios on the Samsung website, but it does not work, says it`s not for my Q1 version (other q1 owners have had this problem with the firmware) but as i said this is an 2008 machine and the forums are dead.

As i have said others have use the pci-e slot for wimax cards, but the slot seems dead to me.

I may look for an pci-e pinout to check the power, I am after an msata ssd to replace the parallel hdd using an parallel to msata adaptor that i have ordered but that will not be for a month or two.

    Thanks for any help

    John.

Hi. I recently bought a Samsung Q1Ultra with the IDE 40GB drive. Installed Windows 8.1 and upgraded the ram to 2GB. It's working "ok". Not super fast but doable. So to make it faster, I ordered on ebay 162174134224 Mini mSATA PCI-E SSD to 40pin 1.8" ZIF CE Cable Adapter Card and 262702397057 Samsung mSATA 128 GB SSD Laptop Solid State Drive MZ-MPC1280/0MV but it did not see it during windows setup. Will get back to check the bios. Also, will check with and IBM Laptop with mSATA if the SSD is good. Will post the results. In my case, the WiFi only works with linux. It did not work with Windows 7 or 8.1. It detects and programs the WiFi card but it does not work. If you have any tricks, let me know. I will also try installing a Mini PCI WiFi N with the current setup.
