    Hey guys,

I am now contacting my insuarance company (endsleigh insurance) with details of what has happened.

Unfortunatly tonite i managed to dropped my laptop (samsung q310) which has led to me being unable to boot it up at all.
The accident has cuased the laptops casing to crack and under furthur inspection i have found that the internal SATA hard disk drive appears to be damaged as i have checked this with a desktop computer. I am yet to check the optical drive
The syptoms of the laptop not working are that there is nothing on the screen after pressing the power button (possibly a broken screen?) and connecting an external monitor also does not work. (perhaps the gcard is broken?)

What i am asking is do you think the laptop is worth fixing or is it just time for a new laptop? Jopefully endsleigh is as good as i have heard from other students, has anyone had any experience?

thanks in advance for any help!

The first task is to confirm the extent of the damage. Is there any sign of life when you press the power button (do any of the LEDs come on)? A dead HDD should not stop the computer booting into the BIOS. If there's no sign of life then maybe the mainboard is cracked, which be expensive to replace.

both the power and the charging LEDs come on but that is all....hopefully my insurance will be able to sort it out but i feel my beloved q310 may be joining the laptops in the sky :(

OK, so nothing showing on the display? This will make it more challenging to fix. See what the insurance company has to offer.

indeed, and the vga port doesn't appear to work either....possibly the gfx card has taken a hit?

shall see what they say, i have heard good things before about them and it is my first claim

Q330 is probably the nearest equivalent but look at the range here.

ok so phoned up my insurers, and they are going to collect the laptop to assess the damage and then work out if it is repairable orr if it needs replacing, fingers crossed it will all work out!
