I received my Samsung series 7 laptop yesterday and everything worked great. Today I was using the laptop and put it into sleep mode for about two hours and when I powered it back on I noticed the keyboard would not light up. I tried using Fn and F10 to increase the brightness but it wouldn't come on. This is really disappointing considering the laptop is only 1 day old. The model is NP700Z5C-A02UK, everything else works great. Does anyone know of any way to fix this?

Yeah, it's a known issue. Happens some times when you sleep it, but not every time.

The solution is to press Fn-F1 to open Settings (Easy Settings if you're on Win7). Then turn the keyboard backlight slider all the way down, then up again.

    Hope that helps.

Don't worry, it's a great PC. Check the Series 7 Lovers thread for more discussion.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for the reply. This was one of the first things I tried but it still had no effect. Now there appears a further problem in that once I open that settings menu, only the option to alter the display appears on the right hand side menu. So even if I wanted to try and turn the brightness down and up again I couldn't.

Before we start a major investigation, I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing: I assume you're on Win8; and the Settings application I refer to is the Samsung-specific one:

Are you saying you don't have this Settings when you press Fn-F1? Or on the Start Screen (or Start Menu)? Or that you have it, but it doesn't have a control for the keyboard backlight?

Sorry should have been more specific but yes that is the setting menu I was speaking of. My problem was that once the settings loaded it only gave me the option to alter display options and was missing the tabs for General, Power Management ect. Anyway I just installed 40 Windows updates and after it booted back up I was able to access all of the settings. I altered the backlight setting and thankfully the light is now back on. Thanks a lot for the help, I'll be sure to check out the Series 7 lounge.

Excellent, thank you for that feedback. And good job getting it working. Whatever solved it, solved it :)

The NP700Z5C Owners Lounge I mentioned (the so-called Lovers' Lounge) is linked below. I was posting from my phone before, which makes it hard to find and post links.

The thread is huge, but you can use the search feature. Also, to search more broadly across the Samsung forum, use Google searches like site:notebookreview.com/samsung keyboard backlight. That's what I use all the time.

Yes I noticed this problem way back like almost a year ago. I never got a solution until recently.

    Easy Settings>General>Keyboard Backlit

Seriously though - how did I not notice this before?
