Hi, sorry if this is another basic question. Having looked at the download drivers and software for the Q310 on samsung's download website, as there is no Win XP I assume I have to buy the OS myself? When i then install that, will the notebook have sufficient working capacity to allow me to log onto the net to download these XP drivers (ie would the keyboard, networking card etc etc all "work" once XP installs, prior to getting all the XP-cpmatible software from samsung's site). Thank you! gibson

it will probably be the same as when you re install vista, you wont be able to connect to the internet because you havn't got the drivers(im using wireless so am not sure if the wired networking will work), so download them all now and copy them to a cd so when you reinstall to xp you have them.

Well, it's artifact free and the core temp maxes at 63C.

Anyway, I only overclocked to see how far I can go. The games I play don't demand much and run as smooth as I could ask for on the stock clocks :p

    Hi.

I just joined the madness and got the same score as you, at a max temp of 58c

the 9200m GS GDDR3 can be seriously overclocked, but at only 64bit you can only do so much!

Download all the XP software and drivers and put them on a CD before you start installing XP. I recommend you use nLite to slipstream both XP SP3 and all the relevant Samsung drivers onto a new XP installation CD.

    Hi.

nTune here as well, but i only go as high as 700 core 850 mem , if i need more power in a game, as 750, 950 is too high for regular use, as you cannot read see the memory temps.

Anyone able to get draft-n broadband speeds with the build in Wifi 5100 card on the Q310? I've just bought a buffalo nfiniti router with draft-n ability, but am only getting the bogstandard 54.0 Mbps via wireless. Anyone have any experience with a) Q310 and draft-n, or b) the buffalo nfiniti router?

    Hi.

I think i have had it 3 weeks or so, and it run really cool, processor idles at 31c , gpu at 44c and hdd at 39c

I over clocked my 9200m GS from the stock 529 core / 702 mem to 750 core / 950 mem and the max core temp was only 59c

But i would not recommend using settings that high, I was just experimenting.

But over all it a great notebook!!!

    Regards

    John.

    Here are mine:

    CPU.....35C
    GPU.....47C
    HDD.....50C

Im a bit ragged about the heat of the HDD, I feel like its just gonna randomly fail on me

Tinder, are you running HWMonitor v1.10 or 1.11 because judging by the icon its 1.11 which registered a lower of about 5C for me which I assumed was incorrect. Would you mind testing out v1.10 if you can find it? I can post it on RapidShare tomorrow possibly.

my little review on samsung customer support

I first contacted samsung on the 14 october and was told that, that evening someone would contact me.
    This phone call never came.
So i rang the next day to be told the same and again no-one rang.

I rang them every day until the 19th and everyday they said that someone would ring that day and no-one did, but luckily on the 19th a technician was available when i rang so i didn't have to wait for them to ring back because i dont think it would of eer happened.

I then replaced the laptop on the 19th a john lewis as they said it was a fault with either the fans or the graphics card, and then yesterday (the 21st october) they phoned and asked if everything was ok with my new laptop.

So they did redeem themselves a little bit by following the case up after i finally spoke to someone from tech. My overall score is 4/10 for customer service

Tommorrow i am going to do a batery test with vista, ubuntu(as i think they now have all the drivers with the beta version, and xp home so will let you know, i can also post all the benchmarks for the 3 operating systems, could anyone post the links for all the graphics benchmarks programs please.

    thanks

Are you guys OCing with no extra cooling?

When I tested both V1.10 and V1.11 they showed different temp, so I downloaded a few other temp monitors and the majority (like 3/5) agreed with V1.10 and I also prefer to assume its the higher one as well to be on the safe side.

    Hi,

i have just tested the battery life on my q310, with the p8600 processor and here are my results (my office is at 17.9C so when i try linux i will test the battery again i will try and get the room temp the same)

the only modifications to vista that i did was to disabled windows aero, sidebar.
I used vista balanced power mode, which i edited to disable standby, screensaver and turn of monitor.

The screen brightness was on full and the wifi was connected.

I stopped the clock when the battery reached 10%, and the latop was at idle with no third party firewall, antivirus etc and only hwmonitor running, i re-installed vista so i performed this test on a clean operating system as well.
all drivers are up to date

I managed to get 3 Hours 3 Minutes and 29 Seconds

and for people that are interested i took a screen shot of hwmonitor when after the battery hit the 10% mark and here are my temps after running for 3 hours 3 minutes and 29 seconds at idle

    Hi.

It`s Vista32 home premium SP1, but it is a Samsung DVD and it does not need a cd key to install.

Also you get a software/driver DVD for Vista32

Yep, it's OC'ed, core is 700 MHz, Memory at 850.

Drivers are 180.43 I believe, although I've now reverted back to the samsung drivers because of a problem with the powermizer thing.

I got the sleeve from a couple of pages back, from play.com

Fitted the laptop perfectly, and does the job well.

Any chance of a few screenshots Manic?

Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars: Kane Edition

    Running @700/850

First 2 in-game screenshots are maxed excluding AA, it runs at around 14FPS which is unacceptable for most.

Last 2 in-game screenshots are a mixed config which I thought were the best bang for bucks option which usually ran at 24FPS. However I screenshotted a Firehawk bombardment which lagged it down to 18fps when looking right on it which is guud. This game is very enjoyable on the 9200M GS if you dont mind the small screen :)
