Hi guys!
I have a Q310 qith P750 (2.0ghz) - 4gb - 9200m gs (i would have bought the 2.4ghz version but I won the notebook so i don't complain about it![]()
1. When i opened the task manager i saw that there is a huge amount of background programs running and i believe that if i shut them down the pc would run much faster in fact i noticed that they use a lot of memory and also cpu (which in my case is a bit slow so i would like to get the best from it)
so the question is which one i can disistall ? which 1 i can just shut when i want more cpu power but not disistall? which i can't touch? ^^
2. At the moment i've tried Dead Space, which works flawlessly at 1280x720 (if i remember right) with medium settings which makes it look pretty good i have to say, i've tried L4D, same resolution but i had medium - high settings.
However i've found that the Q310 struggles with Bioshock (which is very very strange since it doesn't run properly even at 1024x768 (or something like that) with DX9 and medium settings. Fallout 3 doesn't work even at low setting 800x600. So i'm wondering if is a CPU problem, GPU problem or something else... maybe drivers?
PS: could you please tell me which are the best drivers for 9200m gs?
3. I don't know if it's a driver problem but i think so, GPU-z gives to the GPU something like 529 cores but RivaTuner and EVG Precision give only 500 cores, if i try to overclock using RIvaTuner or EVG and i read the cores with GPU-z it still says that there are 500 cores but if i read with RivaTuner and EVG it gives the right cores which i have just overclocked. Is a GPU-Z problem? I'm asking because i've always used GPU-Z and it looks strange that it can't read cores properly
4. Last problem ^^ (thank u for reading till this point) When i switch the notebook on, i use CPU-Z to read the ghz and it gives me only 1.5 ghz (even if i have the notebook plugged and on Performance Mode), however i read somewhere that it is normal because the CPU downcloack itself to consume less power. But what is not normal is that i tried to play a game for like 1hr then i run CPUZ and i saw that the ghz number where flickering, i mean that sometimes it read 1.5 and the second after it said 2.0 and then the next second again back to 1.5 and so on... i hope that i explained myself ^^
Sorry if i have any grammar error (which i'm sure i did![]()
Thanks a lot if you read at least a part or even the whole psot![]()
Thank you again

1, search NBR vista tweaks using the forum search tool, start from there.
2, your card is very weak by todays standard. dead space is reported to run quite well on all sorts of hardware.
i also have bioshock, and it runs crap (UT3, built on the same engine ran much better). you should be able to run fallout 3 though, at least with the settings you mentioned, try updating your drivers.
best drivers? i would just go for the most recent one, check laptopvideo2go for the latest modded forceware, or go to nvdia's official site and get a slightly older one.
3, it's quite common for those programs to have different readings, on my machine, ati-tools, rivatune and ntune gives me the same reading, but gpu-z gives me a different one. i'm not very expertised on overclocking though.
4, I think that's what they are meant to do. i use rmclock to undervolt my cpu, and 90% of the time, it's clocked at 1.2ghz, with occational flickering like you mentioned. -

CPU-Z intermittently checks the current CPU speed and updates the display to show the most recent speed. if you want to see how the CPU speed is fluctuating, using the monitoring page of RMClock.

Here's a 9200m GS performance thread from a while back:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=299785
There should be some driver\oc suggestions buried in it's pages somewhere. I'd give my personal vote to DOX's optimised drivers, they're pretty good -
First off, congratulations
That is quite a win
I just about got Fallout 3 to run on mine, but its has a P8400 processor so it may struggle a little on yours. Bioshock demo didn't work on my system either, well not at a playable fps.
Its normal for the CPU to downclock, right now mine is running at 850mhz dual core. I am sure yours is fine also.
Thanks for the game info too, I may consider buying L4D or DS -
Thz for the answers ill try everything u said!
@Penguins: ye its probably my cpu that cant run properly the game :S pity, anyway i've tried also "Sins of a Solar Empire" and i have to say that i can run the game extremely well: everything on high with some on highest and 2x AAthe game is really not very heavy to run
but really lots of fun
.
I'm going to try "The Witcher, Enchanted Edition" - "Company of Hero" - "Gears of War", ill tell u what are the resultsanyway i'm going to try those drivers Willy S, so stay tuned
Q310 Long Post - Too many background programs + Few games questions + GPU OC questions + CPU not running at 2.0 ghz
