Can you please check the full version? E.g. 07LI.MP00.20080926.SCY
Why don't you share the updated BIOS? Samsung support keeps replying: "64bit OS is not supported in this hardware", "use currently published BIOS version", dated 1st of October 2008.

With regards to your other question, all i will say is that i wish to remain on good terms with samsung. -
Problem Solved!!
Im a fellow R510 user having the same Win 7 64bit issue, and have been following this discussion with much interest.
I have just solved the problem getting Samsung to release the updated bios (it is not "officially" supported - hence their reluctance):
http://www.samsungpc.com/gb/support/r510/bios/BIOS_64bitdev.EXE
It’s a DOS file, so you will need to create a DOS bootable flash drive and run the exe file from there. -
Looks like the same file to me
I guess after the positive confirmation i gave them that it works, they are now willing to release it to anyone who enquires, good news to all R510 owners. -
Do you think this file would work on a Q310, or is it specific to the R510?
-
Could someone post the MD5 hash and method to make a dos bootable flash drive?
Just in case I do try it? -
Well I am still kinda afraid to try it.
Has anyone else with a Q310 tried it?
Stu -
also thanks to fizzyfanta.
-
I've just tried it on my Q310 and it failed. The program checks the laptop model number first. It's looking for an R510 and it's not there
!.

Error - BIOS Model ID is mismatched. !!!

BIOS can not be updated. Please use proper BIOS File.

I've just checked the samsung.com web site and there is now a new bios available, 10su (size is 2.351Mb). The strange thing though is the date on it is Jan 30 2009
.
I'll give it a whirl and see if ubuntu livecd 64bit fires up ok. Has anybody else tried this bios?. -
I loaded on the latest Bios. My BIOS version is 08SU and MICOM version is 10SU.
Windows 7 threw a bit of a wobbly after a restart but seems ok now. Tried running the ubuntu 8.10 64bit live cd. Still keeps bombing out while loading so it's looks like this BIOS update doesn't include the required fix.
-
I have emailed Samsung asking about the possibility of releasing this for the Samsung Q310.
Will keep you advised! -
Got this reply from Samsung:
-
Hi,
If Samaung are selling a notebook with 4Gb of RAM then the only way of using all this RAM is to have 64Bit operating system. They are obliged to provide an update!. -
Good things come to those who wait -
Just in time for the October release of Windows 7!
-
how close are we to getting this to work? is it worth upgrading to 32bit win7? thanks!
-
I'm also wanting a fix for this, I'll e-mail Samsung support. What should I write?
The more people that get onto them, the quicker it will get resolved I should imagine, I'm on the Q310 by the way. -
Good luck!
Stu -
any news from you guys that emailed samsung? thanks!
-
just been to phoenix's web site and downloaded bios agent + and it is reporting that an update is available, seeing as this comes from the bios manufacturer it shouldnt take them long to find a fix.
-

What's different about the Q310 that requires a BIOS update for W7 x64?
I installed W7 x64 on my Q320 without any issues. -
Back to your other question, it has been already been answered in this thread.
In brief the bios is not mapping the memory correctly. -
-
but they want money for it and im a bit reluctant to pay for something that may not work.
-
-
sorry, the makers of the software are phoenix themselves.
calling samsung shortly to discuss missing parts on my laptop which has just been repaired, and will open a support call for this as well -
Good luck!
Hopefully it will be fixed in a month and a day! -
I got the same problem on my q210 (windows 7 x64), any news about samsung releasing an updated version of bios for q210/q310 to fix this ???
-
anyone got any furthur with this yet? thanks!
-
heard nothing, i feel that samsung will never do it either. if they can fix one i.e the R510 that shares the same faults how come it is taking them this long to fix what is essentially the same issue. My machines warranty runs out in 4 days and i feel samsung will just tell to foxtrot oscar now they have no obligation.

Windows 7 64bit is a problem on Q310. I have installed 32bit now. The aero interface is not working properly on windows 7. Gives me a rating of 1.0 for aero. I installed the graphics driver from the samsung website. Anyone else having the same problem ?
-
It works now. I used the latest driver from the nvidia website. There is a 64bit driver for the graphics card as well. But, I have not tested it.

Hi there
First post for me, but the Q310 issue is close to my heart and I wanted to report my experiences thus far.
I too have e-mailed Samsung and been given an obviously copied and pasted "There are no Q310 drivers to support 64 bit or Windows 7 at this time. We will forward your comments to head office." I'm really not happy with that as an answer just 1 year after I purchased the machine and in the light of the updates for both R510 and R610 so they will be receiving a reply this evening to that effect. I built a pc that runs 64 bit Vista 10 months prior to buying the laptop, so to say it's not capable of running it is laughable.
In response to the guy who mentioned BiosAgent Plus from Phoenix, I have a subscription and you are right it does show an updated BIOS being available. I sent an e-mail request from the BiosAgent website requesting a copy, only to be informed:
"Although the BIOSAgent Plus scan indicates that there is a BIOS update available for your system, the data that BIOSAgent Plus has collected, points to several different BIOS in our database. After careful review of each these BIOS, our technicians have determined that your current BIOS is the latest BIOS that will work properly with your system."
So that appears to be a dead end as well. And more than a little confusing. And fairly misleading for those who have to shell out £20 to be told that. -
Seems like there is a high demand for the Q310 to support 64-bit with over 3GB of memory.
-
I received a nice and quick response from Samsung regarding the Q310 issue. Their customer service is quite good.
"With regard to your notebook and the recent issue you have experienced, we have recently received confirmation that there are no plans to offer 64 Bit support for this model. This means that it is unlikely that a firmware upgrade will be released to enable 64 Bit support for units running in excess of 2GB of RAM. If you are at all unhappy with this information we would suggest that you address your concerns in writing to -

Should you wish to discuss this further, please call us on 0845 726 7864, quoting yourcustomer reference number. Please ask for the OA&IT department. "
I guess if the Q310 owners send some request letters or give them a call regarding the issue, then hopefully they will agree to an update. -
The point i was getting at is that with such high demand you would expect samsung to resolve the issue and please a high volume of their customers. -
-
Do you guys know if the Q320 is also affected by these defects in the Mobo?
-
Thanks for that address DaMoose. I feel a letter coming on!
-
-
-
I really wish Samsung would address this, as I will get my Windows 7 in a couple of days and I would like to use 64bit!
I am going to try it anyway! -
Well I have just received my copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, it comes with 2 DVD's, one for 32 and one for 64 Bit?
I am not sure if I am going to try the 64 Bit one for the hell of it?
Can I only use the product key on one version? Or could I try the 64 Bit and then go back to 32 Bit if required?
Stu -
Nah it doesn't work, wont even install, it stops with an error during the installation.
-
Well I sent another strongly worded email to Samsung expressing my dismay and disappointment that they have not issued an update to allow this computer to use 64Bit OS's, I also asked them to pass it on to their supervisor / management so my dismay was logged with Samsung.
I received this reply, encouraging, but not holding my breath.

Reading between the lines, I think that the Samsung UK support people would like to see this resolved, but need complaints from more customers to help encourage the decision makers in Korea to issue an instruction.
John -
I have contacted samsung numerous times regarding this issue, and despite their responses being very polite and to the point, they have advised me that there will be no 64Bit support for this unit.
It's very dissapointing, but they have already made the replacement unit for this model and they're putting all their efforts into improving the new models and ensuring they work with almost all setups.
I guess I'll just have to wait a while and get myself a new model when I have the money. -
