11SU firmware is on the Samsung download page! I'm downloading it now (and hoping I can install it on 64 bit and dont have to revert back to Vista again). Fingers crossed it works!

Has anyone installed Windows 7 64Bit with this yet?

Is there anyway I can upgrade from 32Bit to 64Bit and keep all my programs intact?

It is indeed a 32bit installer. I will have time over the weekend to backup, go back to Vista32 update firmware than re-instal Win7-64. sigh.
I will post on Win7 behaviour around Sunday...

StuMcBill: no, changing from 32bit to 64bit needs a full reinstall. You can however back-up your programs to an external hard-drive or another partition.

I reduce the size of an external HDD with windows partition tool (8 gb)
I create a new partition, put it in my Q310
Install Vista 32 bit on it
    I flash the new firmware for Q310 XE2V 8400 on my Q310 XE2V 7450 ( it work)
    Now I have 4 Gb on Windows 7 64bits !!!

    That is good!

Samsung finally did it, its a shame it took this long but a good result for Q310 owners.

Good news all round then :)

Can I just confirm that everyone has the same result as me? After the update BIOS reports:

    BIOS Version 10SU
    MICOM Version 11SU

    Cheers

EDIT: Just ran it again and now both report 11SU - Strange!

I can confirm I had the same experience, first time I updated I ended up with BIOS 10SU and MICOM 11SU, had to update twice to get BIOS 11SU and MICOM 11SU.

Didn't notice this at first so installed Windows 7 64-bit with 10SU BIOS/11SU MICOM and it worked up until I installed the nVidia graphics driver, then it'd keep crashing unless I limited addressable RAM to 4090MB. With the 11SU BIOS proper, it's working perfectly all round.

    hey guys,

prior to reading this i have updated my bios! however, i only did it once, so maybe i am having the not doing it twice problems? How do i tell if it has worked?

When i first updated the bios on my laptop it ruined the win 7 x32 install i had run the update from! Is this normal and is there any way to avoid it (just if i have to re run the updater)

I have put x64 on here now though! success! Easy display manager works 100 percent.

Just would like to know which drivers you guys have used from nvidia? Since there is not one listed on samsungs site?

    thanks

Argh!!! Installed Bios 11SU and now windows won't start. Crashes out to BSOD after the "Starting Windows" screen. Says something about video card on the BSOD tho it goes away before I have a chance to read it properly. Anyone had this? Downloading latest nvidia driver in safe mode now to see if that helps.

Am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.

Uninstalled video drivers and that stopped it from crashing although now I'm using the default windows driver which doesnt support Aero and all the rest. What driver are you guys using?

Tried installing the Windows 7 driver for the Q210 since its the same video chipset and got the same result. This is screwed. Anyone know how I can revert to 10SU?

Can anyone help me please? I am still unable to run nvidia drivers without crashing out to BSOD after the windows welcome screen. I have tried drivers, from the nvidia and samsung sites, and have tried both 32bit and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 and both produce the same results. Out of desperation I even tried removing 2gb of my 4gb or ram but still got the same crash. I feel like i've tried everything short of downgrading the BIOS via the ISO method which I'm looking into now.. hopefully not bricking my laptop in the process. This is ridiculous, I can't believe samsung would release an update which is so flawed.

I have no ideas as to how to help you I am afraid, I just installed 11SU, booted back into Windows 7 32Bit, backed up everything I needed to my other partition, inserted the 64Bit version of Windows 7 and installed it, no problems at all.

I am running Nvidia Drivers 195.62 with no problems.

Just out of curiosity, whats the ISO method of downgrading the BIOS?

Since updating the BIOS has anyone had any issues with their backlight?

My backlight turns off randomly and I have to press FN+F5 a number of times to get it to come back on. Sometimes I have to mess about with random combinations of FN+UP and FN+DN and then FN+F5.

I have tried different drivers and I have the latest display manager. I have also tried different profiles in Win 7 and even told the profiles not to touch the brightness but nothing seems to work.

    Any ideas?

An update.. managed to downgrade to 10SU successfully. Don't think I'll bother with 64 bit windows since samsung can't seem to support their products. Not sure why I got the problem and noone else though.

To downgrade I used this method http://www.sammynetbook.com/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?31694.post
Which I don't think anyone's mentioned in this forum before.. might be worth adding to an FAQ or something.

ISO method I mentioned is a method I read about in this forum which involves taking a bios boot disc iso from the samsung site for another laptop then editing the iso to include the bios you want instead of the other laptop one's.. then you're supposed to run it at command line with some other paramaters or something. Although the method I used didn't involve any disc images or anything like that.. just had to grab the bios files from the temp directory and change settings to allow overwriting with an old version.. anyway it's all in the link above.

So glad to have this all back to normal! Sucks I can only use 3gb of ram but better than bricking my lappy!

Hmm, never noticed this before but looked underneath and mine says just NP-Q310 for "Model" but says NP-Q310-2UK on the barcode sticker where the serial number is. If everyone else's is 1UK and I'm the only one with 2UK maybe you're onto something?

I had exactly the same experience when I installed the 11SU firmware (BSOD, Nvidia crashes, etc). I too had to give up and go back to the 10SU firmware (Thanks for providing the instructions earlier in the thread - very helpful).

My model is the 3-UK, very dissappointed - what a hassle.

After flashing BIOS 11SU, my 64-bit Win 7 and Samsung driver/software install seemingly went well. All Samsung software etc has worked faultlessly so far with no special function keys issues what so ever. I also recall my full 4GB was recognised and tagged as available. HOWEVER, I now find several weeks later that the full 4GB is not available afterall (or at least, no longer reported as available). WIM, Belarc and sys info all agree that 4GB is installed, but that only 3GB is available! How can this be?

Before I go through the nausia of loading Win7 afresh (to isolate any issues from 3rd party software installs), has anyone else noticed this please?

Scrub my previous post. My fault - using msconfig, I had ticked the maximum memory setting in Boot options and left the memory value as 0! I stupidly assumed ticking max memory gave me just that at boot.

Another update and I'm back running 32-bit on the 11SU BIOS!! I won't bore you with the details, but I was tinkering again, got lost and went to put everything back to rights by restoring a disk image. DISASTER - it wouldn't load and neither can I now get a good install from the Win7 disk: a slight scratch on my barely used install disk might be the cause and sfc /scannow proves there are non-repairable system files. A downloaded Win7 ISO didn't help as it created other non-repairable sys files so a new set of disks has been ordered from Microsoft (3 weeks to arrive due to demand!) It will be interesting to see if I'm as lucky as I was with my very 1st 64-bit install. I have to say though that Win7 x64 was starting to hang a while coming out of sleep.

What I have discovered from all of this is that the graphics card PCI-e x16 link width is is reduced from 16 to x1 when the Nvidia driver is loaded both in Win7 64-bit and 32-bit versions. I can't find anything to indicate whether this is by design or due to a driver or BIOS 11SU bug (I don't know what situation was with the 10SU BIOS).

Update re PCI-e: using FurMark and CPU-Z together shows that the 9200M card throttles up and down depending on what's running and drops PCI-e links when nothing much going on.

Nah, didn't try disabling AHCI, and won't be bothering anytime soon. I'm happy with 32 bit for now. Might be willing to give it another try if Samsung upgrade the bios again, although given their track record I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I have the '3UK' model. Everything works perfectly, with 11SU. 64-bit win7 with 4GB of ram, newest nvidia driver. So it should work on all models of Q310 (only the processor and HDD is different)

However you still need to turn of AHCI in BIOS when you are installing Windows 7. I can confirm if left on the laptop will go into the 'endless restart loop'

I already wrote down how to put windows 7 on a Q310 (mainly summarising other people's work) read page 12 and 13 on this thread, and do let me know if you are still experiencing the problem. I will check back to this forum but can't promise fast reply sorry.

In short: turn of AHCI, install 7, update stuff, install latest nvidia drivers from nvidia (it is from series 9M the 9200 GS), instal intel matrix storage thingy from intel's website, enable AHCI, instal stuff from samsung website, enjoy 64 bit with 4GB memory and hotkeys working.

Also have Q310 3UK and 1st 64-bit install was flawless also until some later fiddling (previous posts). Replacement Win7 disks did not solve OS sys file corruptions and held off another try. Just checked to see if any further 64-bit drivers/software updates before trying again and find Q310 downloads page stripped of all the Win 7 stuff (32 & 64 bit)!!
However, I see Q320 downloads has Win7 32 and 64 bit and some more recent than my Q310 Win7 downloads earlier this year.
Has anyone successfully installed any Q320 64-bit drivers on they're Q310 (any variety)?

hi guys, been following this thread for a while, sorry to bring it back to the top of the list again.

Finally got the time try 11su and keep this laptop going for a year more.

I seem to remember that there were 64 bit win 7 drivers on the samsung website, can;t find any now. Will grab the graphics driver from nvidia, but what about the rest?

    Appreciate any replies :) Thanks.

I'm not sure if there were ever windows 7 drivers for the Q310 but the Vista drivers are here or here while Windows 7 versions of the software are listed here.

However, none of those explicitly mention 64 bit so they may not work. You will probably find that Windows 7 already contains most of the required drivers. For software the best strategy may be to look for 64 software for slightly newer Samsung notebooks.

sorry to bring this one back. I just wanted to report success in installing win7 64bit in a Q210 with 3gb memory.

    - I have enabled ACHI in bios and then installed win 7 ultimate 64bit from a usb with no issues

    - I have run windows update and went straight to optional. There i have updated the lan and wlan drivers

    - All the drivers are installed by win 7 itself. The only external drivers that i needed was nvidia and synaptics, which both can be found easily on the relevant websites.

    - I installed easy display manager for win7 64bit from Q320 drivers, from samsung support website.

The below i consider them as optional as win 7 has already installed working drivers:

    - I have gone to the intel download webpage and downloaded the latest chipset inf

    - i have gone to the realtek website and downloaded the latest software package for HD audio codec

    - I have gone to broadcom website and downloaded the latest software for the bluetooth.

    - I have gone to the samsung support site for Q210 and downloaded the webcam win 7 64bit driver

I had already upgraded before the installation the Bios to latest 11LE.

    Everything works with no issues.

I also just want to post my experience. I recently replaced the HDD with an SSD and I installed win7 32 bit and then enabling the PAE [ ]memory - How can I enable PAE on Windows 7 (32-bit) to support more than 3.5 GB of RAM? - Super User ] . So now I can use the full 4GB of my machine.

It seems a bit complicated to install the PAE but at the end is not too difficult. When the machine boots up, there are 2 win7 options displayed [with and without PAE]. They have just something different in the kernel the rest [programs / libs] are all the same.

Everything seems to be working OK in win7 did not find any issue. Also have linux on that which works quite well.

I also have the bios version 11su installed.
