I recently acquired a new Samsung Q320 laptop and promptly fitted a new HD with a clean XP install (still don't like Vista very much).
With 4GB RAM installed, I am a bit surprised by the small amount specified under "Available Physical Memory":

Is this normal?
I also have a Dell M1330 with 4GB installed, and it shows signifacantly more RAM, in excess of 3GB...
Many thanks in advance!![]()

Xp can only use 3gb of your 4gb as it is only 32bit , you need a 64bit OS to see all 4gb , so your OS and system resource`s are using 600-700mb and you have 2370mb free it`s fine.

Thanks for the info!
I always thought 32-bit XP could recognise/support 4GB ram...
How come my Dell shows more under "available physical memory"?

People use to complain that it shows 3gb free when they had payed for 4gb, so they fixed it to show 4gb to keep people happy, even though you only have 3gb, great eh!
Anyway Xp runs great on 1gb of memory so 3gb is fantastic, enjoy.
