I have a Samsung Q320 which is about 8 months old.

Recently, when using it on battery power alone, I have noticed that the battery doesn't seem to last longer than about an hour to an hour and a half.

Is it possible the battery needs replacing after only 8 months?

Are there any tests I can do to check the battery?

Is it worth calling Samsung - would the battery be covered under the guarantee?

HWmonitor includes an indication of battery wear. Sometimes the lost capacity can be recovered by doing a full discharge. To do this you will need to run the battery down until Windows shuts the computer down (usually with 3% remaining) and then restart and go into the BIOS setup until the computer turns off. You may well find that the last 3% takes a long time. Emptying the battery enables the battery electronics to recalibrate the empty point. Then recharge the battery and see if the wear has reduced.
