Hi people, I am new to the forum.

I have been offered a brand new Samsung Q35 with Core Duo T2400 processor running at 1.83Mhz. This is not the current version using T5600 processor. The Q35 comes with 3 year international warraty. Is this a good buy? Thanks in advance for advice. Regards, D

Yes, great deal. Especially since you live in UK.

If you are not a gamer, I would say yes. Q35 is designed for portability and battery life in mind for businessmen, which usually carry quite some premium and the price you are being offered is in the "value" segment.

I believe the only reason it is this cheap is the core duo which is on its way out(and the newer Q45 has come out) but is still a very capable CPU. A steal IMO.

That sounds like excellent value. Someone must have found one at the back of a warehouse. Perhaps the nearest comparison is this MSI at Morgan.

The T2400 is slightly faster than the T5600 but will give more than adequate performance. The 3 year international warranty is not normal in UK, so the extra 2 years are worth over £100.

Thanks for your reply John. By the way, do you mean T2400 is slightly "slower" and not faster than the T5600?

Also, could you advise on your views between Dell's new release of M1330 versus Samsung Q45? Which is a better machine for work? I am not into games

The T2400 is Core Duo. The T5600 is the slightly newer Core 2 Duo. Both run at 1.83GHz. The T5600 includes 64-bit support (which most of us will not want to invest in) and internal improvements may increase the processing speed by up to 10% for certain tasks (and, on average, somewhat less).

The M1330 is a 13.3" machine and, as such, should be compared with the Samsung Q70. The Q45 is smaller in area but a bit thicker than the M1330. My suspicion is that Dell may be aiming at the Sony SZ series and have a price on the high side of £1,000. The M1330 is lighter than the Q45 (or Q35) but the Sony SZ is lighter still. As the expression goes, you pay your money and make your choice. If I were to have the choice between a Q35 at £500 and the Q45 at £775, I would be struggling to justify the extra cost. I'm very happy with my Q35 except my eyes want a slightly bigger display (hence I am waiting for the Q70). It seems that the Q35 and Q45 can both give a battery running time of around 5 hours, which is above average.

The other computer in this price and size range which has aroused my interest is the Rizeon S37E. This is an Asus chassis. It is slightly wider, but has more keys on the keyboard and an extra USB port.

If you haven't read my Q35 review, the link is below.
