    Hello All,

My Q35 came with Windows XP Pro Russian, so I bought Windows XP Pro OEM English version and did clean installation.
During installation, I used the newest Driver & Software from Samsung CD or Samsung Website, which one is the newest.

I got problem with Battery Manager. It cannot be used in Standard and Power User. It will say that my user is not administrators, then it will close immediately.

Well, I really hope that Battery Manager can be used in all kind of users, like Toshiba.

    Please share your experience.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Have you checked the latest drivers posted yesterday as discussed in this thread? These include some updated XP drivers.

    2. I have no problem with installing and using Battery Manager on my Q35 with English XP Pro, but maybe this is because I have given myself, as user, full administrator rights. It is quite possible that the program needs to be running with administrator rights to make the power management changes which Battery Manager does. The only useful feature of Battery Manager which is not handled by Windows power management is the dimming of the backlight for a period before it goes off completely.

You may want to contact Samsung support through ERMS to clarify the need for Battery Manager to run with administrator rights and ask if there is a work-around. I can't find anything under the FAQs.

Yup I have checked through their website. The same version 2.1.2.6.
    - Samsung Download
    - Samsung UK download

Installation is running well, but the only thing is cannot be used in other than administrators group (even power users doesn't work).
And because of this, I don't know which power mode is in used. In example:
    - when pluggin
    - when in battery
And I also cannot choose power mode, in example: i want to use "maximum battery life", or customize mode. It's not possible.

Best use case, is to use other users beside administators, for security reason.

My Q35 only can survive approximately 2 hours for browsing, news, email. :(
    This is with:
    - external monitor (lcd monitor was off)
    - wifi connection
    - mouse was connecting with powered usb-hub.

I hope that this was because of wifi and or Battery Manager software.
But remember, I don't use lcd notebook at all.

    I still happy with Q35.
I will try to contact with Samsung support. Any idea where? (email). *saving time to search for it :) *

I also have another: Bluetooth driver.

    Driver: V4.0.1.2900
    Samsung PC Download

Driver: V5.1.0.1100 (new driver on this site, previous it was V4.0.1.2900)
    - Samsung UK Download
    - Samsung Download

It seems that this new driver was release 2007/03. Not quite sure.

Well, I would like to share my experience. I got Q35 on January.
After clean installation with XP Pro English version (Q35 came with Russian version), I installed bluetooth driver V4.0.1.2900. Installation was running well, but when trying to use it, it was failed due to license. :(

I was afraid that there was a problem with bluetooth hardware (I was not quite sure that time, if the problem with license or hardware), then I tried to search about bluetooth in internet. I successfully installed newer version (V5.1.0.1100) with appropriate "license" and it ran well! I spent many days just to figure this out, reinstall bluetooth driver and so on. :(

And now they released V5.1.0.1100 in their website. Hmm... should I try or not to use their version? Will I have problem with license again? Time will tell.

    Cheers,

    1. Is your battery the 3-cell version or the 6-cell version? The 6-cell battery sticks out at the back by about 2cm. If you have the 3-cell battery then 2 hours running time is OK. You can use MobileMeter to check the power drain when running on battery.

    2. There is an email link at the bottom of the Samsung Support FAQ pages. For example, here.

I will think about your other points later.

    Hello John,

    1. It's 6-cell battery.
    2. Thanks for the link. I sent to them.

6-cell battery and only 2 hours! Either something's using a lot of power or your battery has lost capacity. MobileMeter will also (right click and options) tell you your actual battery capacity and wear.

I found that flash adverts use power and I have now installed flashblock. Did you read my comments about power use and battery life in my Q35 review?

I have found that the battery calibration in the BIOS causes problems. My X60 plus battery was reporting 15% wear and I called Samsung support who recommended that I turned off the low battery alarms and ran the computer until it stopped. Recharge and repeat. This put the wear back down to 7%. My Q35's battery has been saying 2% wear since new.

    Just for sharing.

Well, I manage to solve Samsung Battery Manager.
Previously I could not run in normal user and even power user, now it is possible.
I found some reference to http://blogs.msdn.com/aaron_margosis/archive/2005/02/09/370263.aspx
It seems that registry permission was not set correctly in my case.

    Registry modification is needed.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\PowerCfg
Enable permission "Set Value" and "Create Subkey" for corresponding users. In my case, I add permission for "Users".

    Just for sharing.
Previously before I found how to solve Battery Manager problem, I sent question to Samsung. I got reply that it should be working in normal user after installation by Administrator account. My version is the same as their tested version.

Well, I am not sure if this flaw is with Battery Manager installation or my fresh Windows installation. I only installed Windows once.
