    Hi All,

I have upgraded my OS to Windows 7 64bit and trying to get 16gb of memory to work. I hear there are limiations on the amount of memory you can use, but is there away round this ? Maybe by putting an R540 bios onto the r530 and tricking it ?

Which CPU do you have in your R530? The review here reports an i3-330M CPU with the HM55 Express chipset. The Intel specs for that CPU show it can handle a maximum of 8GB RAM. I think you will find that all the mobile CPUs of that generation have an 8GB RAM limit and 16GB addressing capability arrived with the Sandy Bridge family.

Hi, its a NP-R530-JB01uk model. Don't seem to be any extra options in the bios to change caching or shadowing for memory.

Thanks. That has the i3-330M so 2 x 4GB is your limit (and somewhat more than the 3GB the computer was shipped with).

Crucial confirm my view that 8GB will work and are suggesting PC3-10600 RAM. A pair of these is cheaper than a 2 x 4GB kit and is slightly cheaper here (and MyMemory have always given me good service). The 1333MHz RAM will contain timings to run at 1066MHz if that is the fastest the system supports.

No one here has ever reported being able access additional RAM settings in the BIOS on Samsung notebooks. It's not a normal feature for notebooks.

    Hi John,

Just wanted to say a big thank you. Got my 2x4gb memory today and tested, boots up and sees the updated 8gb. Really helped me out, cheers !
