    Hey!

My Samsung R560 Madril's GPU and CPU are overheating, the GPU goes up to nearly 100C under load, CPU around 70C. I replaced thermal paste and cleaned the fan. Temp got a little better, but it's still way too high as you can see (it was even higher before, with the GPU over 100C under load!)

The thing is, my fan does not speed up anymore. It is running, but very slowly. It used to speed up and get much louder under load, but at some point it stopped doing that, now staying really quiet all the time. I suppose the fan is simply broken, or maybe just the part that regulates its speed. But I'm not sure and that's why I'm asking here.

Do you guys think a new fan would solve the problem?

Thanks for any help! It's greatly appreciated. And sorry for my English :)

I would suspect the fan. Control is usually done at the BIOS level although there be an intermediate controller chip.

While repasting the CPU did you clean the fan and check that it spins freely (and also cleaned the heatsink through which the fan blows)?

I have the same problem with my R560, I replaced thermal paste too couple days ago there where little dust and now it clean as new. Temperature improved mostly GPU but under load system still heats up.
The main problem is that the fan does not speed up under load like it used to be, the fan it self works I tested it when I had my laptop disassembled (it spins nicely and at steady pace also it is very quiet). Thermal paste is applied correctly.

What controls fan speed? Is it fan fault or some controller fault that could be fixed by driver (newer or older versions). There are no fan controls in BIOS.

    thanks for any ideas.

Yes, I cleaned the fan and it spins freely, I also cleaned the heat sink.

Today I ordered a new fan. It's gonna take a while to arrive as they're shipping it from China, but as soon as it gets here (which will probably be in about three weeks), I will get back here and let you know if it solved the problem for me.

Today I installed my new fan, cleaned the heat sink again and replaced the thermal paste and it worked. CPU is at 37C, GPU at 53C right now. That's a HUGE improvement.

OK, I have the same laptop and the same problem. The GPU tepmerature is insane, even now it's 64-68C and I'm just typing... And if I try to play some game or smth it goes to 80-85C!
I keep my laptop lifted up a bit so that it would have better air flow all the time. I replaced thermal paste and cleaned the fan a couple of times now after this problem occured (the last time I did this was around 2 months ago). That helps a bit (it helps if I apply a LOT of thermal paste, like more than enought). The temp decreases ~10C after that.
When the temp rises (reaches ~70C) the fan starts spining a little faster (but imo not as fast as it's used to) but still the temp goes rly high.

SO, what should I DO? Should I replace the fan like supercheese did? If so, how do I know what fan sould I buy?

I replaced my fan two month ago and now my R560 CPU without load is 45-50 C on load stops at 60 C and GPU without load is 50-55 C on load maxed out at 85 C.
Fan cost with shipping was 9.80 USD from eBay and I replaced it in 30 min since it wasn’t my first time I disassembled my laptop. The old fan wasn’t dead but it wasn’t working properly now I am sure.
