I checked the Samsung R580 support site for firmware & drivers and found a bunch on there:
    Samsung

How many of you with the R580 have updated with those?

My question is if my notebook is running OK, should I update or not? Especially the firmware.
I will be updating the GPU driver as mine is starting to have some problems.
I'm just trying to decide to update everything or not?

I usually update to the latest: The updates are usually issued for a reason such as bug fixing, improving performance or adding additional functionality. However, the updates occasionally introduce new problems (although updates several months old should be free of such issues). It is also easy to revert to an earlier driver.

However, it is worthwhile checking around for any issues with the Samsung firmware updates since it is very difficult to downgrade the Samsung firmware. I recall that a firmware update for one of the Samsung notebooks did cause problems for some members a year or two back (it may have been something like adding Windows 7 compatibility caused problems with another OS).

Finally, I would note that Samsung sometimes update the file dates of drivers / software on their website but the actual contents are unchanged. I'm not sure why they do this housekeeping, but it is confusing.

Sounds kind of lazy and sneaky on Samsung's part. How'd you get that info?

Plenty of times in the past I have downloaded what appeared to be a new file, based on the upload date, to discover that the contents were the same as the previous version.

Aren't they all zip files which you unzip into a folder?
