R70 with NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT

I am trying to find the model number for the Samsung R70 which has the NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT in it.

I have spoken to several people at Samsung (UK) and whilst they can confirm that there is indeed an R70 plus Geforce 8600M GT they couldn't tell me what the model number is. I would be very (x10) interested to see the full spec and price of this machine and find a UK supplier which has one in stock but obviously without a model number this is quite tricky. Can anyone help?!

If there is such a model then it is not yet for sale. New model just came out in Germany. But it has a 8600M GS but a T7300. More versions will come with time.

 

I think that as soon as the UK suppliers know what is coming from Samsung then they will start listing them on their websites. However, there always seems to be a certain amount of uncertainty about when new Samsung products will arrive and the exact specifications. For example, the Q70 is imminent but it isn't clear which version of the 8400M GPU is included!

We have to wait and see whether a more powerful version of the R70 will arrive before the X65 (which is also expected to have the 8600M GPU), or perhaps the X65 will come first, or maybe both together. The last rumour I heard was that some more new models would arrive in July. I don't know whether Samsung are constrained by their production facilities or by the availability of components.

I wonder why the Samsung employees themselves don´t know the model names of their own Notebooks. Well, perhaps they work in a different department.
I doubt that R70 will come out with a 8600 GT. But i´m still waiting for a model with a 1680x1050 display.

 

The guys I spoke to at Samsung were reading the info off their Intranet system. One of the people I spoke to suggested that I go to www.samsungpc.com to find out the latest details. They were a bit surprised when I said there was nothing on the R70 on either that site or the main Samsung UK website. I wish website administrators would keep up some times!

I'd be interested in that version of the R70. I don't think we have that one available in the UK yet... or at least not that I've found anyhow!

I thought the R70 will only have 8600M GS... I am supprised....if they have GT... I would definitely be considering that...with Asus G1S...

 

I think you will just have to be a little patient. Samsung (and other manufacturers) are having a challenging time getting all the new range to the retailers. Germany is getting the 8600M version of the R70 before UK, but UK is getting the Q70 before Germany. I am confident that the 8600M version of the R70 will be coming to the UK in the near future (July) but I wouldn't want to make a guess as to whether it will be the GS or GT (or both!).

The situation should become clearer in a couple of weeks when Samsung are more certain about what is coming out of the factory and retailers are informed about the imminent additions to the range.
