I asked for help on the boards a few weeks ago, but I've since learned that the problem isn't about the SSD, but instead it looks like the RAM is causing the problems.

To recap, I was asked by a friend to install an SSD laptop and upgrade the RAM in his laptop.

After making the updates, I ran into some strange problems. The computer would sometimes boot fine, but other times it would give no sign of booting at all - just a blue power light - until you restarted. Sometimes you'd have to restart it once, other times you'd have to restart it ten times. It also would not go into the BIOS menu as you started up. If you hit F2 like it instructs you, it would load the Windows Boot screen.

I initially figured it was because it wasn't liking the SSD. After getting nowhere for weeks, based on a suggestion from here, I tried booting without the RAM, and everything worked great! It booted fine and I could access the BIOS if I needed. Apparently there's 4Gb of onboard memory, so it was able to load without any RAM actually plugged in. Switching to the new stick or the original stick of RAM forced the computer to go back to the weird booting issues.

With both RAM sticks providing equally bad results, it makes me worry about something being damaged on the actual motherboard. Is there anything I can do to test exactly what went bad? I know he ran Memtest on the new stick of RAM with no issues reported.

Would be glad for any advice anyone can offer.
