Hey guys, the title is correct, I got my NP520 about 1 week ago and yesterday I was tired of the windows 8 so I formatted (all partitions are gone). I was wondering if it is possible to reinstall the windows 8. And as I forgot to make my own recovery backup I was wondering if it possible to do an "recovery" using data from another my computer, in this case my sister's NP540. This may look like a mess, and it is, The reason of why I'm thinking in go back to win8 is because I don't feel I get all the potential using win7 in this computer, even the drivers I cant find =(.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Technically the answer is yes to at least one question.

If you have the Microsoft Windows 8 Retail DVD, you can install Windows 8 again and it will use the embedded key during setup, and later for activation. So you can reinstall, but you need a good DVD or USB stick with the official bits to do that install.

I don't know if your sister's backup will work.

You could always call Samsung support and see if they'll send you a recovery DVD.

Nowadays they don't even bother to give you any retail copy of the OS. I will tr to contact samsung and ask about this. Thanks for the advice.

Does anyone ever needed the drivers for this model? There isn't any at the Samsung's web site. I tried to use other drivers from other 5 series ultrabooks but it doesn't seem to work, the touchpad is my biggest problem.

Samsung provide Samsung Recovery Solution which enables users to make backup copies of Windows and the drivers/ software. Unfortunately, the existence of this facility is not specifically drawn to users' attention. I think it's worth trying to make discs on the R540 and see if they will work on the R520.

Samsung also provide SW Update (link on this page - it is a standard software) which will get all the drivers and software from a central database once the model number has been identified.

Thanks very much John, the samsung SW worked very well. For anyone who have this model and are looking for the drivers: you can use all the drivers created for Windows 8, they also work in win7! Now my touchpad has the scroll featureu, HOOOREY!
