Hi, i've got a R440 model that came with Windows 7 Home Basic in C:\ partition, so i've installed Windows 7 Ultimate in another partition and did another partition for Data store.

After a few months i would like to restore the C:\ partition to its default settings with "Samsung Recovery Solution 4", but when i open the program, it says that the recovery area cannot be found and the program will finish.

i did realize that there are 2 hidden partitions:

    - Recovery
    - System

the Recovery partition is where the backups are, but i don't know in which order this 2 partitions came from default, or which letters have assigned at the start, so i would be very grateful if somebody can tell me the default letters of this 2 partitions, so the "Samsung Recovery Solution 4" can start with no problem

    Thanks,

Let me see if I understand you correctly. Your partition list (disk) looks like this:

    Recovery - System Reserved - c: Win7 Basic - "d:" Win7 Ulimate - "e:" data

So, you have 2 installations of windows on this HDD as a dual boot? Please correct where I have read you wrong.

Also, the recovery and reserved partitions are not assigned letters so that they cannot accidentally be accessed. You can choose to assign letters, but why bother.

There is a Fn key shortcut (I think it is either F4 or F8) that you can press at the BIOS screen that also goes into the recover mode. This may be better at finding the recovery partition.

anseio, you got it right, this is how the partition list looks like:

and when i open "Samsung Recovery Solution 4" this is what appears:

John, i've tried that too, but when i press F4, the screen gets black a few seconds and it restart the pc, i guess this is because it dont find the recovery area.. :(

i've uninstalled and installed again Samsung recovery 4, and it works! but when i choice to make a full restoration it says that will restart to perform the process (the same that pressing F4) but with no results and then nothing, windows starts again

    what could be wrong?

Are you trying to recover while in Windows Ultimate or from Windows Home Trial?

I assume that the recovery partition is related to Windows Home and not the install you did of Windows Ultimate.

It is possible that the image in the recovery partition is not a factory-installed image but the image that is written when the computer is first used (this was the case with an R20 that I used to have). If the first user skipped the image writing process then the partition would be empty.

Correct. All samsung netbooks/notebooks have the image created when first turning on the notebook the first time. As well you can set the partition sizes of the C and D drives at this time too, except with Best Buy models. BB partitions the drives at their warehouse for some strange reason.

To the OP. It looks like you might have wiped out the hidden partition that holds the image when you created the additional partitions.

well, i've assigned a letter to each hidden partition because i'm sure the "init.w01" and "init.wcl" files are the backup files that are stored in Recovery partition. The problem is when i press F4 at the boot screen, it doesnt find "some kind of MBR" that allow to boot in recovery mode. i've pressed F4 key a few times before installing Win 7 ultimate, and it worked fine.

    please check the pictures attached
