    Hi

My son bought a Samsung N140 Netbook and is very pleased with it but decided to upgrade the RAM from 1 GB to 2GB to make it more responsive.

However, he's not very good with his hands and did not have the proper Phillips screwdriver with the result that he succeeded in completely stripping the tiny screw holding the RAM compartment in place.

He has already bought the RAM so would like to find a way to complete the job.

An engineer friend of mine has suggested he buys a needle file to make a slot to help him turn the screw and get the cover off but this will still leave the question of buying a replacement screw - and also perhaps a replacement cover for the compartment if he breaks it in attempting to get it open.

Does anyone on the forum have a link to an online supplier of a replacement screw and cover for the Samsung N140 memory compartment ?

Many thanks in advance for any help !!

That type of screw are easy to use if the screwdriver is the right size and problematic if the screwdriver is not.

You can find out your nearest Samsung service location here.

However, screws usually come in standard sizes (length and diameter) and you may be able to find one at your local electronics shop. Or you might well have one at home in some item of old electronics that is waiting to be thrown out.

However, the first task is to get the screw out. Trying to cut a slot in the end is likely to damage the RAM cover. First I would try a big screwdriver of the right size which can be held firmly. It may be possible to get enough traction onto the remains of the screw. Then I would try a small spot of superglue on the end of the screwdriver and hold it firmly against the screw until it has set. Then turn the screwdriver while pushing down firmly. You need to avoid getting the superglue on the RAM cover.

Thanks for your reply and appreciate your suggestions.
From what he says I think he's stripped the head of the screw completely so can't get any traction to grip and turn it.
Maybe the superglue idea would work so will recommend it to him.
    Thanks again !!
