    Hi,

I'm just wondering if there is a replacement, 9-cell, or 12-cell battery available for sale for the Samsung R780. The model number of the R780 I own is NP-R780-JS01US. The battery that came with the laptop that I may want to replace or preferably get an upgrade to (9 cell or 12 cell) has a model number AA-PB9N-C6B. Also, does anyone know if the R580 shares the same battery as the R780? Everything I can find online indicates that it does not, but I just want to make sure.

    Thanks,

    shwh45

This site gives a useful list of batteries / notebooks compatible with the AA-PB9N-C6B.
The 9 cell AA-PL2NC9B is stated as compatible with the X360 and therefore, by inference, with the R780. However, without trying, once cannot be sure.

Thank you John! I'm think I'm gonna go ahead and order the Samsung AA-PL2NC9B 9 cell battery from Samsung's website. Do you know if I could return it if it does not fit the R780?

Perhaps you could contact Samsung support, give them the evidence and ask if it would fit. Or find a supplier other than Samsung who would be willing to accept a return.

I just talked to a samsung agent on the live chat support on Samsung's website, this is what the conversation was.

(Chat Information You are now chatting with 'Stanford'

Stanford: Hi, thanks for reaching out to Samsung tech support. How can I help you today?

    Steve: Hi

Stanford: Let me know the question you have for me.

Steve: Could you tell me if the 9 cell AA-PL2NC9B battery would fit the Samsung R780 laptop with the model number NP-R780-JS01US?

Steve: I would like to use the AA-PL2NC9B as a replacement

Stanford: Let me check that for you.

    Steve: Ok.

Stanford: I apologize, the Unit is designed to use 6 cell battery.)

Does that mean that the R780 could be damaged or not work properly if I tried to use a 9 cell battery??

    You didn't finish that conversation?

Why is it that it won't work on the 780, when the 580 also has the 6 cell battery that can use a 9 or 12 cell?

Maybe it is because they want you to purchase Samsung battery and not after-market.

I finished the conversation there. And I'm gonna try to talk to Samsung again on the Live Chat and ask them more about it.

This is the conversation the second time I asked Samsung about this.

(Arnold: Hi, thanks for reaching out to Samsung tech support. How can I help you today?

Steve: Could you tell me if the 9 cell AA-PL2NC9B battery would fit the Samsung R780 laptop with the model number NP-R780-JS01US?

Steve: I would like to use the AA-PL2NC9B as a replacement.

Arnold: Please allow me to go through the inquiry.

    Steve: Ok.

Arnold: AA-PL2NC9B has 9 cell whereas R780 requires 6 cell battery only.

Steve: 9 cell would have a significantly better battery life and therefore I would like to use the AA-PL2NC9B as a replacement.

Arnold: The battery of AA-PL2NC9B connot work as a replacement.

Steve: Why is it that it works on the R580 as a replacement but does not work on the R780? I was informed that the R780 model I own is pretty much identical as the R580 but is slightly larger. And I know the AA-PL2NC9B is compatible with the R580. Therefore, why can the AA-PL2NC9B not work with the R780?

Arnold: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.

Arnold: Okay, but later we'll not be responsible for any issues.

    Steve: Ok I understand that.

    Steve: Thank you.

    Arnold: You're welcome.

Steve: Ok I think I'm all set thanks for the help.)

    End of convo ^
So basically the agent said that the AA-PL2NC9B will work with the R780 but is not tested or designed specifically for use with the R780? If this is true, I will at least buy the battery and try it out and hopefully it will work.

I don't think this is a guarantee it will work. It probably will because the R780 does seem just like the R580. But it sounds to me like the support person just doesn't know what he's talking about. Scary cause I just asked them a question myself.

Yeah both the support people I asked didn't seem like they really knew the answers to my questions- they just didn't seem to want to give me a straight answer.

Some of those customer support agents are downright stupid. I'm talking bout all brands, not just Samsung. For an example, when I had a HP a couple years back and called support, it was someone from India Asia with a very heavy accent and didn't know what they were talking about, kinda like a McDonald cashier that can't speak English. If you don't ask a specific question like "I want a Big Mac" instead ask for a extra bag and you get a dumb look.

I don't have my R780 with me, so I can't check, but is the problem that the larger batteries stick out the back?

The hinge on the R780 swivels the bottom edge of the the lid below the top edge of the laptop. This could mean it would bump into a larger battery that sticks out.

The pictures I can find of the X360 appear to show hinges above the base that and the lid pivots in these.

I expect that the 9 cell battery that's being discussed will fit in the R780 and work, but you won't be able to open the lid all the way. That will probably be OK as long as it opens far enough to be usable.

That could be the right answer: Can't think of a reason why it would not work but Samsung have not tried it for themselves.

This is a possible problem. How far back from the vertical do you use the screen?

I know that question isn't directed at me lol but I could manage with the laptop at verticle. Do you think the R780 could at least go vertically or very slightly further back (around 100 degrees) with the AA-PL2NC9B battery being used?
