Posting this as well in a sub-forum:

New to the forum. Just got the x460-44p. Great laptop. Light, gorgeous, fantastic keyboard, does not get hot, blazingly fast. Went with this over a Macbook and could not be happier....but...

I took off Vista and installed XP (for several reasons, mainly work related). But now when I disconnect from the ac power and go to battery, the screen dims by more than half -- its really unusable in this mode. Its obviously the XP power management -- adjusting the backlighting through the control panel does not do the trick, nor does adjusting the NVIDIA settings or the Samsung power settings.

So I am assuming this is an XP issue and I have to adjust the power management in BIOS - anyone know what key to press to interupt start-up and accesss BIOS on the x460? I've tried several combos to no avail.....Thanks in advance -- and happy to answer any other ownership questinos for anyone else considering this otherwise great laptop.
