Question for experienced users . Have 700z5a- 02
There is a problem with connecting an external drive Samsung 500g container USB 3.0. Looks like I have some sort of problem with the laptop. Solve the problem and could not . Drive by USB 3.0 is not indicated , although the audio signal passes . By USB appears yusb 2.0 connection , but drive in " My Computer " no . In devices appears yusb device properties ( disk controller and Samsung) works fine .
On all other devices (TV , System unit , laptop , etc.). Everything works ideally . Even tried another container (more expensive ), all still .
Tried and 3.0 drivers installed nothing helps.
All other yusb devices ( flash drives, mouse and so on). Working normally
Forward practical advice

Hi sergyaka, welcome back to the Samsung forum.
I saw your previous posts here from when you installed the SSD and cloned the original installation. Are you still running that installation (ie a clone of the factory Win7 installation)? Or did you re-install Windows since (either Win7 or Win8 or Win 8.1)?
Which USB3 drivers did you install? You want to the ones from SW Update, not from Samsung's web site (which they stopped updating over a year ago) or from any other source. I believe your model uses ASmedia USB3 chipset (mine does too).
Also, if you re-installed Windows (clean installed) you need to install both chipset and USB3 drivers using SW Update. Check this install guide for other necessary drivers to install.
That said, some users have had problems with some models not properly detecting some USB3 devices. If you have other USB3 devices, you should try them -- to find out if it's a general problem with USB3 (or that port) or just an incompatibility with that device. -

Hi Dannemand and John Ratsey ! Thank you for your participation .
In answer to your questions :
Chipset worth Asmedia .
Windows 7 since then reinstalled several times, 8 and tried .Tried driver from Asmedia
Last set windows 7 2 days ago. All the drivers are installed with SW Update .
In Device Manager everything is OK .
When you connect the drive via USB 2.0 installs the drivers and setup . The device is, but in "My Computer" is not.
When connected via USB 3.0 installs the drivers and setup . Window pops up , the driver is not installed!
When reconnecting, nothing else happens.
Another device USB 3.0 have not tried.
After replacing HDD on SSD and buying container for disk, Laptop with this device worked perfectly. The problem occurred a few months ago. Was an attempt to solve it and deferred until today.
If you can give a link to the driver, I will try to deliver. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
It has both drivers and firmware for the Asmedia USB 3.0 hub. You will need to figure out which firmware version you need. The hub properties in Device Manager should show if it a 104x or 107x chip. If you can't see it there then try a hardware analysis program such as HWiNFO or SiSoftware Sandra.
John -
Tried your link installed new drivers.
Nothing has changed. I think I have a technical problem USB 3.0.
I think logically, what happened to the correct driver, if everything worked.
Several times I reinstalled Windows 7 with standard drivers and everything worked and suddenly does not work, and software is not treated.
-
Did you try a different USB3 device? Or even just a different cable?
I'm sorry, I know that's trivial, but sometimes it's those little things.
On my NP700Z3A, the Samsung provided USB3 drivers work just fine with that exact same ASMedia controller. I just used it this morning with a USB3 docking station. Make sure you also install chipset drivers (before the USB3 drivers). -
Thank you all for trying to help.
I previously wrote that used different containers USB3.0 that come each with its own wires. Drivers are already installed many times and in different ways, the result is always the same.
Frankly, I'm tired and do not have time to fight.
According to communicate remotely with the IT specialist, who expects that the problem with the motherboard. Decided to postpone any action on the fact that I do not particularly need in everyday life. -
Yet another ExpressCache issue:
I upgraded to Windows 8(.1). I used the SW Update tool to get all the drivers and so on. But ExpressCache is not working. The 8gb SSD is recognized by Device Manager. But I get a msg (after typing eccmd -info at command prompt) that "ExpressCache Driver is not installed."
When I try to run the ExpressCache software from Windows 8, it flashes open for a split second then closes. Any suggestions?
Thanks! -
The latest ExpressCache version 1.0.0.94 does actually work with Win 8.1. Check this post in the 8.1 sticky thread. -
Any ideas to turn the BLE off? I don't have the option in the settings menu any longer.
Is there any reason to why Samsung has removed it, doesn't it decrease the wear on the battery, and increase the durability? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
If you have a Series 7 then it should still be there. Did you look in the BIOS? If the BIOS supports BLE then the option will be there. You can also try a different version of Settings.
Doing a BIOS update will also turn BLE off.

hi guys,
I own np700z5c-s01us version, I was wondering if any of you play League of Legends on it.
I used to get consistent 60fps with vsync on very high settings, now it fps lags downward to 20 in mid game.
I've done anything from reinstalling windows drivers reapply thermal paste, can't seem to get it back to like it was 1st time i got it.
any tip? or just time for a new laptop. -
Hi diaper,
NP700Z5C is one of the most popular Series 7 models, and has its own Owners Lounge thread, where I think you are much more likely to get a response from a fellow owner and gamer on that machine. Even though it has gone quiet now, there was a strong membership, of which I would think many still subscribe to the thread.
This thread here really is the combo for all the other (and older) Series 7 models and sizes that didn't see enough action to develop owners lounge threads of their own (such as 14" NP700Z3A/B/C, 15" NP700Z4A/B/C, 15.6" NP700Z5A/B and 17" NP700Z7A/B).

Hi guys, I hope that I posted to the right thead. I kind of looked for one that had very recent postings.
I'm new to this forum. I have a Series 7 NP700Z5C-S02UB that I bought new a year ago. So far, I'm pretty happy with it, except for maybe occassional lack of WiFi connections that sometimes just will not connect for no apparent reason, especially when traveling. When it happens, it's just to my notebook only.
I've done all of the updates using the Samsung SW update except for Norton, which I don't use, and updating the bios. I currently have P06ABJ, and the new update would be to P07ABJ. What I would like to find out is, what differences, improvements and or benefits does the P07 update provide? Is it really worth doing, since I've read some folks have had issues performing the upgrade?
After finding out about the bios, I might look into the WiFi issue. Kind of aggravating at times when I can't connect, and our cellphones, tablets and my wife's laptop always connect right away. Any insight into this issue would also be welcome.
So, I just thought I'd ask those far more familiar with this notebook than I am. It's my first Samsung notebook, having had both HP & Dell in the past. So far I like it far better than both of those.
Thanks in advance. Any help and or information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello fromjusttheking, welcome to NBR.
As I wrote to diaper84 just above, your model has an Owners Lounge with a dedicated following. Even though it hasn't been very active recently, I think you are more likely to find fellow owners there than here. I can move your post there, if you want.
If you search in that Owners Lounge thread, you will almost certainly find discussion of BIOS versions. Mostly I would recommend updating BIOS to the latest version offered, but there has been a few bad ones coming out. I don't know if P07ABJ is one of them. You can use the NBR Search feature or Google site:notebookreview.com/samsung P07ABJ.
If/when you do update, you should save the BIOS updater locally and run it outside SW Update. Safer that way. See the opening post of the BIOS Update thread for details.
And for your WiFi issues, try the suggestions in the WiFi Remedies thread.
Enjoy your new Samsung notebook, and keep us posted on your progress. -
Hi Dannemand & thanks for the welcome.
I posted to this location when I saw the Owners Lounge with the same model number as my notebook. I did see the one you referred to, but was not aware that, that would be the more appropriate location to post to, so thanks for the insight. I guess I'm not sure what the difference is between this location and the one you referenced.
Yes, please move my post if you would be so kind.
When it comes to bios updates, I'm always a little skittish as they sometimes say. Screw up that procedure and you can wind up in a world of hurt. And if there isn't any real benefit to upgrading, why do it? I will do a detailed search and look into whether it makes sense to update the bios to P07ABJ. Since I'm not familiar with the how or why to run the bios updater outside SW Update, I need to find out what that is all about. I did look for a bios version history or changelog, but couldn't find anything about it anywhere on the web.
Thank you again for pointing me in those several directions. At least my Series 7 seems to be built like a battleship, which I sure can't say for my former Dell or HP laptops.
Take care and look forward to being on NBR.
Alan -
@Alan: Indeed, build quality is one of the things that have made these models (and the Series 9 / Ativ Book 9) so popular.
Unfortunately Samsung doesn't post change logs for their BIOS updates, so searching for comments from other members is your best reference.
I'm away from my pc rest of today, making it a little harder to move posts (it's doable, I'm just lazy). Since it's soon 24 hours from your original post, you can actually go ahead and post again in the NP700Z5C Owners Lounge if you want. I would expect some regulars there to receive subscription pings and see your post. That's the main reason I recommended it - not because there is anything wrong about posting in this thread. -
Thanks John, i disabled it in BIOS and worked. Will an BIOS update, remove the BLE option all together or will it still be there? I still like to use it now and then. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The problem seems to lie with the Settings program. Although I think this program is intended to be generic, the newer versions no longer offer the BLE control although they have an adaptive brightness control.
Try Settings 2.0.0.38.

So I am still having trouble with ExpressCache. I took the advice to try the new driver as instructed in that post, but there is still a problem. When I run ExpressCache from start menu it flashes open for a split second, then is gone. When I run eccmd -info it throws an error, saying that "ExpressCache driver is not installed." Any suggestions on this problem?
-
If that's what you tried and it still doesn't work, you can try the expanded steps here in the ExpressCache thread.
There are two other circumstances that can block ExpresCache from working:
1) If the iSSD used for caching has become defect (by wear or otherwise). This can only be fixed with a new motherboard -- or foregoing ExpressCache altogether.
2) When switching from an UEFI/GPT installation to a BIOS/MBR installation (or the opposite). In that case, the partition layout of the iSSD needs to be changed accordingly, otherwise EC won't work. We have had a few cases (described in the EC thread linked above) where owners were simply unable to get EC working again after the switch. -

Hello,
I have successfully installed Windows 8.1 in my NP700Z5C-S02PT, the only thing I´m currently missing is the keyboard drivers, I can´t seem to be able to access the "blue" functions on the F keys. Has anyone found a solution for this? Thanks for your help. -
Hello trespasser, welcome to NBR.
You need to install Samsung Settings to support hardware features such as Fn-keys, power management, keyboard backlight control etc.
Download SW Update from here (if you don't already have it) then see which versions of Settings it offers you. I prefer Settings version 2.0.0.55 because it supports features like Battery Life Extender and ExpressCache, which newer versions 2.2.x don't. However, those newer 2.2.x versions are meant to be more compatible with WIn 8.1.
You can use the Find Model feature in SW Update to look up other models and hunt for different Settings versions. One member mentioned a version 2.0.0.63, which I would like to try, but I am not sure where to find it.
Don't install Easy Settings on Win8 or 8.1. It was designed for Win7 and has some quirky behavior that you don't want.
You can check the thread linked below for more info on Settings (and Easy Settings):

Hey guys, I could use some urgent help with my Series 7 not starting anymore. Please let me know if there is a better thread for me to post on. Many thanks for any help.
Problem: starting the laptop, Windows seems to hang forever on a black screen. I tried F2 to get the windows install to repair itself somehow, but that still leads to the black screen.... For a very long time.At some point I have to do a hard shutdown. Am I being impatient? How long should I wait?
I tried F4 but the laptop seems stuck trying to load Samsung Recovery Solution 5. Similarly, I may be mpatient, however I would not expect it to take more than 10 minutes to load.
I'm worried I've somehow damaged even the recovery partition, or at least quite a bit of system software on the C: partition.
The only avenue at this stage seems to be to user the Windows recovery CD - and I fear that won't even work.
I skip the long story as to what happened but it was along the line of an interrupted chkdsk on a data partition D: on the same internal drive. That caused difficulties shutting down the laptop, so I shut it down with the power button and Windows had not been able to start properly since then. -
Success! Woohoo!
I ran Startup Repair again after F2. Accepted to use Restore Point. Took longer. Instead of going to black screen, it told me that it "could not repair the computer automatically".
Problem details showed:
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: 21199902
Problem Signature 05: AutoFailOver
Problem Signature 06: 2
Problem Signature 07: Bad driver
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.10.256.1
So my guess is drivers somehow got corrupted.
It then gave me a choice to access more recovery tools. I chose System Restore, I chose Windows Restore Point I had created just this morning before my partition manipulation operations. And it succeeded!
I am SO glad I installed a script on my desktop the other days to easily create restore points and that I had the judgement to create one today. Especially as for some reason those puppies don't seem to be created automatically as they should....
Anyway so, thankfully, some problems can be fixed with a current Windows install. I read that indeed Restore Points are much better in Win 7 and 8 than they used to be in XP.
Except that in spite of the restore point, i'm not facing the issue of my laptop not recognising USB drives ( flash and external hard drives ), from neither ports. Sigh
OK. Solved I think. Forced rescan of hardware in order to refresh USB controllers. Can be dine through Device Manager but a Microsoft FixIt tool dud that for me.
Sorry for the Samsung-unrelated stuff, but I thought I might as well post the follow ups if that can help anybody in the future.Dannemand likes this. -
Hello again guys!
From two months or so I noticed that my fans are spinning much more frequently. Right now with just one tab opened on chrome is ok (60ºC) but if I just open an youtube video it jumps to 75ºC/80ºC, the fans start spinning crazy and then it drops after 10 sec to 65ºC. This didn't used to happen to me all the time for two years.
Do you have a clue of what might be the reason for this sudden spin?
I already opened the case and although it was really clean I sprayed compressed air. I also run MS and Avast antivirus and nothing was detected and reinstalled chrome. The CPU is only running at 20%.
Thanks! -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I wonder if there is a temporary spike in the CPU (possibly GPU activity) when you start the video. Try changing the hardware acceleration option in the properties of the YouTube video (right click then select Settings).
John -
Thank you John! This is strange, I don't know if what you meant was to change on catalyst control center but actually I changed Chrome settings from High Performance to Economy and the temporary spike stopped. I'll test tomorrow during the day if is still ok. Btw, a friend of mine told me that since it has 2.5 years could be a good idea changing the thermal compound. What do you think of this option?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
High Performance may be using the dGPU while the Intel GPU should be capable of doing the work.
Thermal paste does tend to age. The best indicator is temperature when the system under full load. If you get around 90C then it's probably running hotter than when first shipped.

Hi! I have a Series 7 Chronos 17 inch laptop
My family recently got a pc so I was given the laptop, it is about 6 months old and has never been dropped or even moved really
So to the point- I tried to take picture with the camera, but the quality is just awful which surprised me as I had heard these laptops had a relatively good camera on them
has anyone else had this issue? Or is it simply broken in which case can I just take it to a computer repair store?
(note- I have cleaned it and just reset the laptop to factory new but there is no change)
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

In my experience webcams in computers are low quality low resolution designed so that Skype video won't use too much bandwidth.
Camera performance, however, is probably better under very good lighting but you then not be able to see what is on the screen. There's usually a very noticeable difference between the photos taken indoors depending on whether or not the flash gun is used. Computers, however, don't usually include a flash gun.

Hi All. Various issues surrounding restarting/hibernating/sleeping.
1. When I restart, something very strange happens with the trackpad. Upon first restarting, only "tapping" (rather than "clicking") works. Dragging also does not work. However after it appears everything is booted, and then another 30 seconds, the trackpad reverts to working as I want it to (with clicking and dragging, and "tapping" disabled).
2. I cannot hibernate or enter sleep mode properly. When I do, and restore, all the programs shut down and the system reboots again (with trackpad issue described above).
I'm not even sure where to start with this issue. Any advice is much appreciated.
Best,

Re. 1: If you have Windows 7 then go into Easy Settings (Fn+F1) > Boot Management > Boot Optimization then either Deselect Fast Boot or click on Advanced > Settings and make sure that anything starting with "ETDC" is not selected. Samsung's Boot Optimization delays the loading of some programs to give the impression that everything is loading faster. (Note: I think that's how it works but I might have got something wrong).
Re. 2: I haven't had any similar experience to call upon but I would take such measures as making sure that hybrid sleep is not enabled and also disable hibernation, reboot, make sure that hiberfil.sys in the root directory is deleted, re-enable hibernation and reboot.

John's advice is spot on: That Samsung Fast Boot Mode (Boot Optimization) feature in Easy Settings can cause the problem you are seeing. In fact, I would disable that feature entirely -- although it requires some persistence to defeat it. Check this post and the preceding discussion for details. That's all assuming you use Win7 and Easy Settings.
There is another issue in Win8 and 8.1 (which use Settings, that doesn't have the Samsung Fast Boot feature). See if the description in this post matches what you are seeing. -
Hi, I've got a couple of questions about my NP700Z5A-S05UK.
What started as warping of the plastic near the right screen hinge, has now led to multiple cracks in the laptop body and screw holes falling out. I've had a replacement bottom cover delivered, which is easy enough to replace, but I've realised the top cover is too damaged to repair, so I'm looking to replace that as well.
1) Does anyone have any experience of replacing the top cover (the part containing the keyboard, touchpad and palm rest)?
2) Would it be OK to replace the the current cover (with a plastic palm rest) with one designed for a US model (NP700Z5A-S06US) which has a slightly different key layout and a fully metal palm rest?
Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks John.
I would prefer to get an identical replacement, but all the images of the part BA75-03348A appear to show a non-backlit keyboard whereas my model is one with a backlit keyboard. I've been unable to find a unit with the backlit UK keyboard anywhere, which is why I began looking at alternatives.
Is there anywhere that I can find a repair manual or full parts list for my specific model? I'd rather not have to take the whole laptop apart just to look for a part number.

Samsungparts.com offers a Service Manual. However, I don't know if they will ship to UK. You could ask Digicare who are, I think, the biggest of the Samsung UK service agents.
You might be right about there being both backlit and non-backlit keyboard options. I agree that if you are used to the former then the latter is a step backwards. However, I've used the NP900X4C with both UK and US keyboard layouts and find the differences in the shape / size of some of the keys confuse my fingers and cause a significant increase in mistypes. I would prefer a non-backlit UK keyboard to a backlit US one for this reason but you are free to make your own choice.

I'm really having a hard time booting off USB. At the moment I can't even enter BIOS without having windows installed. I know I managed to reset CMOS once before, like unplugging the batteries and holding down the power button, but I just didn't manage to do it now when I tried.
I just want to install something else, other than windows, that's why I need to boot off the USB and just can't get to do it.
I've read about the BIOS becoming corrupted or something, any way to reinstall it? Since I have the latest version the BIOS updater from their site won't let me reinstall it. -
If you know your network is fast, but Chrome is slow to display and update pages, I can think of four suspects:
1) You have activated Samsung Silent Mode, which caps your CPU at its lowest speed setting in order to keep it cool (and the fans off). Silent Mode is toggled with Fn-F11 and is easily enabled by accident. It can also be set in Settings ( Easy Settings if you use Win7, Fn-F1) where you want to make sure Silent Mode is OFF. Many users set it to AUTO, which actually activates it and keeps the computer crawling. Many Samsung owners fall into the Silent Mode trap; who doesn't want less fan noise? Check this post for more overview and useful links.
2) If some other software (or even malware) is sucking all the CPU power in the background or keeping the disk running needlessly. Check the Processes tab in Task Manager if something is running in the background with high CPU or Disk utilization.
3) ExpressCache has stopped working or gotten itself confused. Use ECCmd as described in this post to check that it is running properly. If you recently updated Windows, that is known to stop ExpressCache from working. In that case you need to uninstall (Windows Programs and Features control panel) and re-install it. Make sure you install the latest ExpressCache version 1.0.0.98, which can be found in SW Update under model NP540U4E. Look under Win8.x drivers, it will work for Win7 as well.
4) Your disk is running slowly, either because of extreme fragmentation or because of bad sectors. Check it for errors, then defrag it. Clean out junk first using CCleaner and Disk Cleanup.
That's all I can think of. Please keep us posted
Thanks to some pioneering members, we have gotten better at helping fix this issue. The old CMOS reset tricks that you used generally doesn't fix this. But re-flashing your BIOS does. If you are not already on the latest BIOS, I suggest you update it, using the safe procedure in John's BIOS Update thread.
If you are already on the latest BIOS, it is a bit more tricky. Please study the thread linked below, and particularly the guide in post #7. You are in the very fortunate position of having a running Windows (which many members in that situation have not). So this should be much easier for you.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/762595-samsung-series-7-np700z5c-s03ca-my-last-hope.html
You basically need to locate and download a BIOS update file for your model (preferably the latest, but not necessarily), extract its contents, then use the BIOS flashing tool inside it to execute a command to clear your NVRAM. The exact command depends on the tool used with your particular BIOS family. All the details are in that thread.
But be very careful you know what you are doing, so you don't make matters worse. I recommend you study the entire thread until you feel comfortable about it, before actually running the command.
Please keep us postedJohn Ratsey and MikeB17 like this. -
Hey, thank you very much for your private message. I just saw it now, right after I posted, I opened up my laptop and attached my optical drive again ( I had the slot occupied by a caddy with a hard drive).
So fortunately, I remembered what I did last time when this happened. I have a broken windows 8 cd that can't load the boot files, what it does tho is that it shows me a error and it also says "Press ESC to enter UEFI settings". So that's my way of reaching the BIOS.
Now, I still can't boot USB flash drives or enter the BIOS settings normally, so I guess I'll have to think hard if I want to try and reflash it. There's a possibility it could become corrupted once more, or maybe.. if you said there's others who experience worse problems. I had this laptop for more than an year and I did "battle" with this problem for a long time now, it's like you said, I guess I'll have to make a decision.
Thank you once more for your answer! -
For a long time, the only advice we could give here was to try variations of that CMOS reset you already tried (disconnecting power supply and battery, pressing power button for a minute). And that's what you will see reflected in many threads -- along with some other, more risky suggestions. My PM was to spare you from those
It really is only in the last six months or so that we have gathered experiences to allow many more semi-bricked computers to be fixes -- and some of them with relative ease, particularly ones that still have a working Windows installation (like yours). Again, that's what is captured in that thread I linked above.
So again, I would first try updating your BIOS as described in John's BIOS update thread (run the BIOS updater, save the the BIOS file locally, then run it standalone with all other programs closed). If there is a newer BIOS for your model, this could be a 10 min easy fix.
But even if you have to clear the NVRAM manually (because you are alrady on the latest BIOS) it is quite doable if you follow the guidance in Fitztorious' thread (again, the same one I linked in my last post).
